Few people will disagree with the assertion that the Rap Scene is a particularly violent subset of entertainment. No other form of celebrity status, genre of music, or entertainment industry is as dangerous. Shootings occur often, among other serious crimes, and deaths are so common that it surprises few, and is mostly ignored by mainstream media. I believe there's enough content here to support a larger thread. Here's just a few of the many stories out there as a basis for the thread. Following these, any content related to violent crime, drug offenses, assaults, or any financial crimes should be added.

Note: Archive is being a bitch, once the site stops being stupid I'll edit them in.

Murders
Murder happens regularly within the hip hop/rap scene. As I said earlier it is common enough to be considered perfectly normal, and doesn't gain much attention outside local news sources. Here's some notable names from just 2020 to today.

Pop Smoke / Bashar Barakah Jackson: Killed February 19, 2020

Who he was
Bashar was born in Canarsie, Brooklyn, and had an unstable, destructive childhood. He went to nine schools during his education, was expelled from his eighth grade school because he brought a gun onto campus, and spent two years on house arrest for the crime. After this time on house arrest he straightened up well. He got into basketball playing as a point and shooting guard, and was accepted into Rocktop Academy. It's a renowned Basketball school. (Website/Archive) Tragically he was diagnosed with a heart murmur in his first year. He couldn't participate in the program, and it was after this incident that he fell heavily into the criminal lifestyle. He was later arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport on a grand theft auto charge. (He stole the vehicle to use in a music video. Video on the incident here) The police also tried to pressure him to give up information on the Cripps, a gang Bashar had frequent contact with.

How he died
Bashar was shot in the chest and killed during a home invasion. Men broke into the home and shot Bashar as he was coming out of the shower. This incident is debated. One source (Archive) claims that the incident was drug/gang related, and that between two and six assailants broke into his Hollywood Hills home and murdered him. Another source (Archive), a more accurate one I believe, states that four young men entered the home, but only one of them was an adult at the time. This young man, Corey Walker, is facing life in prison. Interestingly (Archive), and perhaps lending credence to ABCs assertions of gang involvement, is that his girlfriend didn't contact the police when his rental was broken into. His girlfriend called someone on the East Coast, (Or one of the attackers did, it remains unclear.) who then called the Los Angeles Police Department. Even with this the LAPD now assert that the incident was a simple robbery gone wrong, and that Bashar was killed by local LA gang members whom he didn't know personally. The youngest of the group, whom admitted to killing Bashar in a prison interview, was fifteen years old at the time of the crime. The day before his death Bashar doxed his location on Instagram

End Notes
Bashar had an upbringing similar to many inner city Americans in severe poverty. He grew up in a violent, divided area of one of the largest cities in New England and started his criminal behavior young. What is most shameful is that he had an opportunity to turn his life around. Rocktop academy could have secured him college scholarships, and would have been an impressive mark on his record should he attempt NBA tryouts. His heart murmur ended that chance though and rather than try to find a legitimate career he regressed into the criminal lifestyle. He could have shifted away from that lifestyle with hard work, but he fell into it anyway. He was only twenty when he died.

Houdini / Dimarjio Antonion Jenkins: Killed May 26, 2020
Houdini.jpg

YouTube / Archive
Twitter / Archive
Instagram / Archive

Who he was
Born in Toronto Canada on July 23, 1998, Dimarjio is very nondescript as far as musicians go. Very little is known about him outside his career in music and his involvement in crime is undocumented if it exists. I could find no arrest records, articles, or social media posts regarding him being arrested at any point. One article (Archive) I found asserts that he and his family were devout Christians, that Dimarjio attended and graduated from a private school in the city, that his father is a businessman in Ontario and that his parents wanted him to become a lawyer. Not liking this idea he instead chose to pursue a career in rap, He released three mixtapes between 2016 and his death, and was signed on with a Toronto record label at thee time.

How he died
The Toronto Police claimed that he was killed in an orchestrated gang hit. He was shot and killed while shopping in downtown Toronto. A fifteen year old boy and his mother were also shot but survived. A seventeen year old named Eleijah Robinson was the prime suspect and as far as I could find he's still on the run. The police consider him armed and extremely dangerous. If you're Canadian and live in the Toronto area and know anything about this kid, whether he's been arrested or not, ect, post it. The police released video of the shooting itself, which can be found here.

Funeral Shooting / The End of the Saga
In true crime show fashion a gunfight erupted at a vigil, being held at a bar down the street from the funeral home, being held for Dimarjio. His friends and family were in attendance when a dark colored sedan pulled up and several men within opened fire on the crowd, which in turn opened fire on the vehicle. Despite over sixty shots being fired only two people were shot and injured. Toronto Police released the security footage, and it can be found here.

End Notes
Dimarjio is a weird one, and I believe it has to do with what I mentioned earlier. Rappers being shot and killed or arrested is such a common occurrence that the media is very apathetic to it when these things occur. There is very, very little information regarding this guy and as far as I've been able to find there's no known criminal connection. The Canadian Police function differently from their American counterparts, so perhaps they simply won't release what they know, but there must be something substantial if a gang is willing to open fire on people mourning the guy. The fact that these people shot back and were later arrested for illegal firearm possession pretty much confirms it's gang related, but nothing in the press covers this more than saying that "the cops said it gang related,"

Huey / Lawrence Franks Jr: Killed June 25, 2020

Internet Presence:

YouTube / Archive
Twitter / Archive
Facebook / Archive

Who he was
Born to drug addicted parents (Archive) in a violent neighborhood in Missouri, Lawrence started life in an unfavorable position. Drugs were and still are a persistent, deep rooted problem where he grew up, his brother was commonly in and out of jail because of drug related criminal activity. Lawrence was almost removed from his parents home by social services because of this. He started making hip hop beats when he was fifteen, and his older brother introduced him to a producer, a woman named Angela Richardson, and became notable due to his songs 'Pop, Lock, & Drop it' and 'Oh,' He would release two albums during his career and a mixtape here and there. Apparently he was working on an upscale clothing line in the year before his death. According to Fox2, he has a thirteen year old daughter, but the mother isn't known.

How he died
Lawrence was shot and killed outside his home on Martin Luther King Blvd. Another man, aged 21, was shot as well but he survived the shooting. As of now, no information has been made public on why he was shot, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been released for public dissemination. Given the area he lived in and his brothers criminal history, there could be any number of reasons he was murdered. He could have been involved with drugs like his brother, perhaps dealing in drugs or firearms. He could have angered an opposing gang, or Lawrence might have been killed accidently. Perhaps the shooters thought they were shooting at his brother. Regardless of the reasons, he was shot dead on his front lawn.

End Notes
Beyond Pop, Lock & Drop it, Lawrence released a few albums and mixtapes, and started a clothing line. The clothing line was gaining traction, his music was fairly popular, and he had a financial basis to build from with these assets. He could have used these resources to pull himself out of the dangerous area he grew up in but he deemed it unnecessary. Instead he stayed in the area and continued interacting with people in that sphere, and more likely than not this decision directly caused his death. His daughter is left without her father, his family is destroyed, and another man was badly wounded.

Who he was and how he died
Londre grew up like many inner city hood kids; severe poverty, high crime rates and community deterioration, Ect. He received some attention rapping on YouTube between and during several prison sentences.. He was convicted of felonies four times (Archive) and served sentences for each between 2010 and his death. Not only did he get shot 64 times after just being released on electronic monitoring, he also got two other people killed, and an old woman shot in the leg(Archive). Beyond this basic information it is hard to pin down much about him. He has no news articles within several pages of search results that isn't about his death. 101Biography.com has a Bio on him, but it's only a couple paragraphs, though it does include a tweet of someone who seems to know Londre, and also claims that his brother, and father were also killed.

End Notes
There's not much to add for Londre because so little is known about this man and his family beyond his death. Anything anyone knows further could be enlightening as to why he was killed, and I or a mod should be able to update rather quickly. It's obviously criminal behavior but the details are non-existent right now. He has no wiki entry, and no articles about him that aren't about him getting turned to swiss cheese. I haven't even been able to find his YouTube channel. The only thing I've found is a few videos of him shit talking people, and this video. It's the first part of a documentary with no following parts published. They were either never filmed or the people making them decided not to release following videos because the guy is dead.

Notable Drug Offenses
Drugs cause a major percentage of crimes inthe rap / hip hop scene. Either through taking them, making them, or selling them, and many rappers are caught and prosecuted. Here's a couple examples that show the... spectrum. One minor offense, and one that's the exact opposite.

Who he is
Nominated for three Grammy Awards and voted BETs best male hip hop artist. Dominique was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and came to mainstream attention for his music in 2017. His album, 'Harder than Ever' went Platinum, and to this day is his crowning achievement. He's been arrested a few times for drug possession and possession with intent to sell, but he has no weapon offenses. Dominique founded his own record label in 2017 called 4 Pockets Full, the roster includes himself, 42 Dugg, Rylo Rodriguez, and Chalynn Moneè. He was taken into custody on July 8th, 2021 for smuggling Marijuana in Paris, France. The frogs arrested Dominique (Pretty sure that's a woman's name) and another man, but the pair were released the following day after being ordered to pay a fine. As it stands, he's currently hanging out with NBA star James Harden in Paris fashion week.

Who he is
Leader of the Bloods gang Unstoppable Gorilla Stone Nation, he was arrested on various racketeering, murder, narcotics, firearms and fraud offenses. Though Caswell turned himself in to authorities after the majority of his gang were imprisoned. Seventeen other members were arrested by Federal authorities before he surrendered. The U.S. district attorney stated, "As alleged in the Indictment, members of Gorilla Stone committed terrible acts of violence, trafficked in narcotics, and even engaged in brazen fraud by exploiting benefits programs meant to provide assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,"
Before this he did some music work with Chris Brown, Jah Dwella, Brash, and quite a few others. He started his own company called 2X entertainment and partnered with Warehouse Music Group. He had a single tour back in 2017, which is when he performed on the Party Tour with Chris Brown, 50 Cent, French Montana, Fabolous, O.T. Genasis and Kap G.

Out of all the people in this thread so far Caswell is the most violent retard among them, and he definitely belongs in prison. If not for the multiple homicides, drug trafficking and fraud his half-assed gang has committed then just the name of his gang alone. Speaking of him being retarded, back in January his lawyer made an offer to the Judge pleading for him to be released from jail in exchange for 2.5 Million dollars. As it stands, he's still in jail awaiting trial.

Sexual Assaults / Rapes
Rape and sexual assault are very common in the hip hop / rap scene, among all the other criminal activity and anti social behavior associated with the industry. Here's an example of one of the worst people inb the hip hop / rap scene.

R Kelly / Robert Sylvester Kelly
R Kelly.jpg

Internet Presence:
YouTube / Archive
Twitter / Archive
Instagram / Archive
Facebook / Archive

Who is he
Few people don't know who R Kelly is simply for just how horrible he is as a human being. There's a lot of information out there about Robert, and I'll link you the basis sources here, here, and here, if you're interested in some long form reading. This thread is long enough without several paragraphs on Kelly. (Compared to every single person above the amount of information and quality of research is far more extensive. His Wikipedia article is longer than all the others combined by a wide margin.)

To start, Robert illegally married a fifteen year old girl in 1994. Kelly's tour manager, Demetrius Smith, said that he facilitated the wedding by obtaining falsified identification for Aaliyah that said she was 18. Robert first met the girl when she was just twelve years old. He later paid Tiffany Hawkins $250,000, after she claimed Kelly had induced her to have group sex with other teenage girls when she was 15 years old. This money was part of a settlement with a confidentiality agreement attached to it.

On February 3, 2002, a video surfaced allegedly showing Kelly engaging in sex with, and urinating on, an underage girl. This incident is the most controversial of his career and is often cited by many as the reason they hate R Kelly. Robert was slated to perform at the Olympic games when the video, and corresponding story, went viral. Later that year he was indicted on twenty-one counts of child pornography, and that same month he was arrested in Florida on a Chicago arrest warrant and sent back to Chicago for trial. He was found not guilty of fourteen counts and the other seven were dropped due to lack of evidence. This trial lasted several years.

The Polk County Sherriff department, investigating the allegations against Kelly, searched his Florida home and found a digital camera containing over a dozen images of Kelly engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl. It was the same girl that he urinated on in the infamous video that started most of his legal woes. R Kelly was arrested on January 22, 2003 at Miami's Wyndham Grand Bay Hotel on those charges of 12 counts of possession of child pornography. He paid his bond and was out of custody mere hours later and the charges were dropped less than a year later because the higher court determined that the search warrants were obtained without proper cause. As such, the evidence, the literal child pornography, was ruled inadmissible by the judge.

R Kelly is also accused of having an underage sex cult. Parents of three underage girls have alleged that he held them in an abusive, MDSM style cult. Various other accusations over the years have resulted from this, and a dozen or more other incidents of women coming forward about his aggressive sexual behavior. Most have not badly effected R Kelly, as he is a monolith in music and privileged beyond 99% of humanity. because of his privilege he's managed to stay out of jail until recently. Here's the final recap.

In March, 2019 R Kelly was indicted on ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the crimes ranging from 1996 to 2010. R Kelly blamed social media for the allegations, insisting he was and still is innocent.
In July of the same year R Kelly was arrested by US Homeland security investigators and was indicted on a further eighteen counts of child sexual abuse, forced labor, child producing child pornography, kidnapping, and many other charges. Additional charges were piled on over the next few weeks. Unlike his previous crimes R Kelly was denied bail repeatedly and he currently awaits trial in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. His trial is set to start August 9th, 2021.

Conclusion / End Notes
The rap / hip hop scene has a lot of crazy shit happening in it. The sheer amount of criminal behavior on display is mind blowing for such a small, relatively, portion of the music industry. It's interesting to look into some of these people to see what caused them to go into this lifestyle and the effects it has on so many people both inside and outside of the community. There are many rappers who warrant mockery for their terrible behavior and for being killed in various shootouts, but often the information is limited. Kelly is the only one with in depth research into him by media outlets I've found. Maybe we can bring some more information to light with this thread.

Lesson of the day

If someone breaks into your house you should have the right to kill them without hesitation. When did the Aussies turn into the British?
The part that kills me in the article is the judge acting like "home owner made a bad judgment call" over a fucking home invasion. If you're attacked, you're not going to think straight.

Get bent and get fucked, Australian law.

there’s been several similar incidents & in every single one it was an absolute ridiculous call. 😂😂 You can play fruit ninja with him if the silly cunts in your living room no problem cops may even give you a medal for it but once you decide it’s a good idea to go a few streets away and start playin chop chop then yeah you’re a fucking dumbass. Shouldn’t be swinging swords at peoples head anyway what’d he think was gonna happen? Bruise a bit?
Dunno about you chief but I sure as shit can keep it together in the clutch.
Fucking fruity little actor obviously never been tested & he failed miserably.
No winners here just deadshits & dumbshits.

Also speaking of rappers who got the hell out of the hood, let's hear it for Ice T, who has outright said "why would you ever want to go back there"
Little known fact: Ice-T's favorite musical genre is actually metal. He became a rapper because that's where the money is in black music, and apart from 'Living Color', pretty much no black people have had much success in rock/hard rock/metal.
It's also why he started Body Count when nu-metal took off, so he could kind of butter both sides of his musical bread.

This winner hardcore rap dude was $30k in debt to the casino .. he’s PARENTS paid that. He kept gambling 😂🙄 Got tooled up & tried to rob a young couple … ended up getting a samurai sword to the head for he’s trouble
People who are too fucking stupid to know the difference between 'he's' and 'his' and unironically use emojis on the farms might find Twitter more suitable for their level of, um, giftedness.

The rapper, who goes by the name Lil Kevo 069, was one of the most popular new artists from the Engelewood area of the city. According to local reports, the opps ran down on Lil Kev and fired 16 shots at the rapper, most of which hit him.
Pressing X to very much doubt.

In the articles I read the high on meth rapper came in with a fake gun and punched him in the face with brass knuckles. So not only did he invade his home he assaulted him with a potentially deadly weapon.

Australia is retarded.

Not that I'm surprised. The country took away gun ownership because a single literal retard went on a shooting spree.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -- A Mobile County judge revoked the probation of Mobile rapper “HoneyKomb Brazy."

The rapper, whose real name is Nashon Jones, was on probation for a conviction on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He only served 18 months of a 15-year sentence, but now the DA's office said he'll have to serve the rest of the time.

Prosecutors asked the judge to send him back to prison for violating the terms of that probation. Prosecutors presented 15 video clips showing Jones with guns or drugs.
The defense argued that those were stage props for music videos. Even if true, the judge wrote in his order, that does not explain a shootout that the defendant was present for in Montgomery. His associates traded gunfire with unknown assailants. Jones later posted an account of the incident on social media.

Prosecutors also accused Jones of failing to check in with his probation officer. The defendant implied that he ignored an order to report to the probation officer because he feared his life was in danger following the killing of his grandparents, Tony and Leila Lewis. Defense attorney Jeff Deen told FOX10 News, "I wish the Judge had denied the State’s motion to revoke Nashon’s probation. His creativity influences and inspires others in his social circle. However, I can understand the judge’s opinion. He Conducted a 2 1/2 hour hearing and then took three weeks to review the evidence presented which included a plethora of videos. Even if the guns, dope and alcohol weren’t real in the videos, I can see why the judge could conclude that honeycombs the depiction of drugs, guns, alcohol and misogyny would not be conduct becoming of a probationer. We plan on appealing the judges decision. In the meantime, I believe that this experience will drive Nashon toward providing a more positive and mature message for his many fans.”

Alabama rapper "Honeycomb Brazy" gets 15 years. Paroled after 18 months. Puts drugs and guns in music videos. Has the serve the rest of his sentence for breaking probation. Fucking idiot. nashon-jones-aka-honeykomb-brazy-may-3-mug-e1620083639859.jpg

Oregon shooting at county fair where rapper Nelly was to perform leaves 1 injured, 2 in custody: police

The Eugene Police Department said they have two suspects in custody. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A video posted on Twitter appeared to show a man telling someone to put a gun away.

Wesley Hicks, an Oregon resident who was about 20 yards away from the shooting, told Fox News that security guards quickly moved in when a fight broke out.

Another witness told KEZI that the gun went off when security tackled the man to the ground, and the bullet hit a female bystander in the arm after ricocheting off the ground.

Singer R. Kelly abused a 17-year-old boy almost 15 years ago, prosecutors alleged in Brooklyn federal court. Authorities included the allegation in their motion on Friday to admit uncharged acts into evidence at trial.

Kelly is charged in New York and Illinois courts as a prolific abuser of women and girls.

According to prosecutors, the defendant met the boy–identified as John Doe #1–in December 2006 at a McDonald’s and invited him to a party at the singer’s Chicago home. The 17-year-old went to the party with his mother and stepfather, and Kelly told him to come next time without them, authorities said.

“Thereafter, Kelly invited John Doe #1 into his studio under the guise of helping and mentoring John Doe #1 with his musical aspirations,” prosecutors wrote. “Kelly also asked John Doe #1 what he was willing to do to succeed in the music business and clarified that he wanted John Doe #1 to engage in sexual contact with Kelly.”

Kelly allegedly had “sexual contact” with the boy. He urged him to have “sexual contact” with other people and recorded those encounters, authorities said. Prosecutors claim they can corroborate his relationship with the teen by citing telephone records.

Honestly with how often rappers and niggers who listen to rap waste each other, as well as studies that have been undertaken in the past, I honestly don't see how anyone can argue that rap music isn't responsible for a lot of harm to the black community. It glorifies booze, drugs, and all sorts of violence in ways that can only be seen as promoting it.
Fuck, some nigger did a song outright telling people to rob Asians and giving tips on how to do it.

Some people try to counter "But video games!" to which I must respond: Video games do not actively encourage you to engage in the presented behaviors and often warn against them in disclaimers. Rap music has no disclaimer and often outright advocates the behaviors it glorifies.

German rappers also are exceptionally retarded

A rapper named Gzuz decided it was a good idea to livestream himself firing a gun into the air in the middle of a German city. He was charged by the government for this and is now in jail for 6 months

Also there is a thread on a German rapper named Money Boy

Not only that but a lot of the time when rappers say their songs are entirely fictitious they're ridiculed by fans. Future admitted he doesn't really use drugs a couple years ago and rap fans were calling him a fraud for months. And juice world (who's death by overdose was mentioned a couple pages ago) Said he started using drugs because of Future's music.

Rapper Money Mitch ‘shoots himself dead’ after opening fire on cops during police chase

1627534457134.png

Police executed a traffic stop and the musician reportedly got out of an Uber that he was riding in and started firing at Palm Beach County deputies.

He wasn’t hit by the gunfire and fled to a building around a block away where cops found blood.

Frank DeMario, of PB Sheriff’s Office, said they thought the rapper had been wounded in the shootout but found out that he fatally shot himself.

Cops said they had him under surveillance, WPTV reports.

DeMario said: “We followed him to a building and on the second floor, we noticed some blood droppings on the first floor. We thought he was wounded.

"We didn't have any involvement in the shooting."
So he gets out of an Uber being pulled over and just immediately shoots at the cop car. He injures no one, runs for it, then shoots himself when he gets home. What the fuck was his deal? Was he high on hard rugs like Bath Salts and saw demons coming for him or something? He runs home and blows his own brains out.

There's been at least half a dozen deaths by murder in the two weeks since I posted this. An entire generation of young people are dying for literally no reason.

YNT Juan, whose real name is Juan Bautista Garcia, was an upcoming rapper with over 25,000 followers on Instagram and close to 4,000 subscribers on YouTube. As to who killed the rapper, it is yet to be revealed as the Hartford Police Major Crime and Crime Scene divisions are still investigating the crime. Speaking on the unfortunate incident, one of his childhood friends told The Courant, “He was only 17-years-old. He never went live on his Instagram to talk about drama, he only went on there to support his friends or promote his music. [He] didn’t even get to graduate school yet.”
Hip-hop fans poured in their tributes for the 17-year-old rapper as soon as the news of him getting shot and killed hit the Internet. One user stated, “A rapper is shot & killed everyday smh...17yr old YNT Juan shot dead, R.I.P.” Another posted, “RIP YNT JUAN. North End’s own. The Good Die Young.” Whereas, one posted, “They banging like that in CONNECTICUT?? Wtf is going on??” And, another tweeted, “This gun violence needs to stop. Lost to soon. Rip.” One person concluded, “Tired of these young rappers leaving us wake up black culture self genocide is not the way.”

Thread could be updated on a weekly basis but I don't have the patience for it. "Bulletproof" rapper Young Dolph shot and killed in Memphis today.

Link

As far as rapper shootings go this one is fairly big (I think), dude had just shy of 4 million monthly Spotify listeners.

Reportedly several other shootings have happened today in retaliation for this so if there are any Memphis based Kiwis consider avoiding any remotely shitty area for the next couple weeks.

Edit: Apparently some random going by Nuski Gang Douwey4 or just Douwey in Chicago got got a couple days ago too. But either his name is too retarded or he's so bottom tier I can't find any articles about it.

Fetty Wap (surely the faggiest name in rap history) busted in relation to smuggling ring moving considerable amounts of drugs (incl over 200lbs of heroin).
Even when they actually have money, a career and privilege, they still make incredibly stupid life choices.

Two suspects sought in Young Dolph’s deadly shooting outside Memphis bakery

Two armed people described as suspects in the fatal shooting of rapper Young Dolph outside a well-known bakery in Memphis, Tennessee, were recorded on security cameras, police said Thursday.

The pair got out of a white, two-door Mercedes Benz shortly before the rapper, 36, whose name was Adolph Thornton Jr., was fatally wounded Wednesday inside Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, police said in a statement.

“The suspects approached the victim while he was inside the business and shot the victim several times. The suspects then fled the scene,” police said.

No arrests have been made, police said.

The images show two masked people in sweatshirts who appear to be wearing gloves. Both appear to be holding firearms.

Young Dolph, who was in Memphis for his annual Thanksgiving giveaway, was on his way to hand out turkeys when he stopped at the bakery, said his lawyer, Scott Hall.

Investigators obtained video surveillance which shows two suspects exit a white two-door Mercedes Benz armed with guns. The suspects approached the victim while he was inside the business and shot the victim several times. The suspects then fled the scene. (Memphis Police Department)
Police were called to the business, which is southeast of downtown Memphis, at 12:24 p.m. Wednesday, Chief CJ Davis said in a statement Wednesday.

“The shooting is another example of the senseless gun violence we are experiencing locally and nationwide,” she said. “Our hearts go out to the Thornton family and all who are affected by this horrific act of violence.”

She said that a motive wasn’t clear and that investigators were gathering details from witnesses to try to identify the shooter or shooters.

Davis said Wednesday that police were deploying more officers in areas “impacted” by the shooting and encouraged people to stay home.

Rappers and influencers expressed their grief and shock after learning of Young Dolph's death Wednesday afternoon.

“God bless Dolph,” Chance The Rapper tweeted. “Real independent Memphis rapper born in chicago. loved by millions of ppl. Always showed love everytime I seen him this is tragic God bless his family man.”

Rapper Gucci Mane said: “R.I.P. to my friend Dolph this broke my heart.”

“Me and Dolph used to be next door neighbors. Smh. RIP DOLPH,” rapper Lil Yachty said.

DJ Akademiks tweeted video of a local newscast and said the scene of the shooting was flooded with fans and police.

The Commercial Appeal of Memphis reported that Young Dolph was born in Chicago and moved to Memphis as an infant.

He launched his career with a series of mixtapes beginning in 2008, moving up the hip-hop ranks and the Billboard charts in 2016 with gold-certified hits such as “100 Shots,” while his 2020 album, “Rich Slave,” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

The Commercial Appeal reported that he had been the victim of two other shootings in 2017.

In February 2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was in a vehicle when a person fired more than 100 rounds at the heavily armored SUV he was in, which he would credit with saving his life.

Later that year, Young Dolph was critically injured when he was shot multiple times outside a hotel in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. He made a full recovery, the newspaper reported.

Variety reported that he was the cousin of the Chicago rapper Juice Wrld, who died of a drug overdose at Midway International Airport in 2019.

Memphis police say tips can be made to its homicide unit at 901-636-3300 or to Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH. There is a cash reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of suspects, police say.
