Few people will disagree with the assertion that the Rap Scene is a particularly violent subset of entertainment. No other form of celebrity status, genre of music, or entertainment industry is as dangerous. Shootings occur often, among other serious crimes, and deaths are so common that it surprises few, and is mostly ignored by mainstream media. I believe there's enough content here to support a larger thread. Here's just a few of the many stories out there as a basis for the thread. Following these, any content related to violent crime, drug offenses, assaults, or any financial crimes should be added.

Murders
Murder happens regularly within the hip hop/rap scene. As I said earlier it is common enough to be considered perfectly normal, and doesn't gain much attention outside local news sources. Here's some notable names from just 2020 to today.
Pop Smoke / Bashar Barakah Jackson: Killed February 19, 2020

Big Smoke Website / Archive
Who he was
Bashar was born in Canarsie, Brooklyn, and had an unstable, destructive childhood. He went to nine schools during his education, was expelled from his eighth grade school because he brought a gun onto campus, and spent two years on house arrest for the crime. After this time on house arrest he straightened up well. He got into basketball playing as a point and shooting guard, and was accepted into Rocktop Academy. It's a renowned Basketball school. (Website/Archive) Tragically he was diagnosed with a heart murmur in his first year. He couldn't participate in the program, and it was after this incident that he fell heavily into the criminal lifestyle. He was later arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport on a grand theft auto charge. (He stole the vehicle to use in a music video. Video on the incident here) The police also tried to pressure him to give up information on the Cripps, a gang Bashar had frequent contact with.
How he died
Bashar was shot in the chest and killed during a home invasion. Men broke into the home and shot Bashar as he was coming out of the shower. This incident is debated. One source (Archive) claims that the incident was drug/gang related, and that between two and six assailants broke into his Hollywood Hills home and murdered him. Another source (Archive), a more accurate one I believe, states that four young men entered the home, but only one of them was an adult at the time. This young man, Corey Walker, is facing life in prison. Interestingly (Archive), and perhaps lending credence to ABCs assertions of gang involvement, is that his girlfriend didn't contact the police when his rental was broken into. His girlfriend called someone on the East Coast, (Or one of the attackers did, it remains unclear.) who then called the Los Angeles Police Department. Even with this the LAPD now assert that the incident was a simple robbery gone wrong, and that Bashar was killed by local LA gang members whom he didn't know personally. The youngest of the group, whom admitted to killing Bashar in a prison interview, was fifteen years old at the time of the crime. The day before his death Bashar doxed his location on Instagram
End Notes
Bashar had an upbringing similar to many inner city Americans in severe poverty. He grew up in a violent, divided area of one of the largest cities in New England and started his criminal behavior young. What is most shameful is that he had an opportunity to turn his life around. Rocktop academy could have secured him college scholarships, and would have been an impressive mark on his record should he attempt NBA tryouts. His heart murmur ended that chance though and rather than try to find a legitimate career he regressed into the criminal lifestyle. He could have shifted away from that lifestyle with hard work, but he fell into it anyway. He was only twenty when he died.
Houdini / Dimarjio Antonion Jenkins: Killed May 26, 2020

Who he was
Born in Toronto Canada on July 23, 1998, Dimarjio is very nondescript as far as musicians go. Very little is known about him outside his career in music and his involvement in crime is undocumented if it exists. I could find no arrest records, articles, or social media posts regarding him being arrested at any point. One article (Archive) I found asserts that he and his family were devout Christians, that Dimarjio attended and graduated from a private school in the city, that his father is a businessman in Ontario and that his parents wanted him to become a lawyer. Not liking this idea he instead chose to pursue a career in rap, He released three mixtapes between 2016 and his death, and was signed on with a Toronto record label at thee time.
How he died
The Toronto Police claimed that he was killed in an orchestrated gang hit. He was shot and killed while shopping in downtown Toronto. A fifteen year old boy and his mother were also shot but survived. A seventeen year old named Eleijah Robinson was the prime suspect and as far as I could find he's still on the run. The police consider him armed and extremely dangerous. If you're Canadian and live in the Toronto area and know anything about this kid, whether he's been arrested or not, ect, post it. The police released video of the shooting itself, which can be found here.
Funeral Shooting / The End of the Saga
In true crime show fashion a gunfight erupted at a vigil, being held at a bar down the street from the funeral home, being held for Dimarjio. His friends and family were in attendance when a dark colored sedan pulled up and several men within opened fire on the crowd, which in turn opened fire on the vehicle. Despite over sixty shots being fired only two people were shot and injured. Toronto Police released the security footage, and it can be found here.
End Notes
Dimarjio is a weird one, and I believe it has to do with what I mentioned earlier. Rappers being shot and killed or arrested is such a common occurrence that the media is very apathetic to it when these things occur. There is very, very little information regarding this guy and as far as I've been able to find there's no known criminal connection. The Canadian Police function differently from their American counterparts, so perhaps they simply won't release what they know, but there must be something substantial if a gang is willing to open fire on people mourning the guy. The fact that these people shot back and were later arrested for illegal firearm possession pretty much confirms it's gang related, but nothing in the press covers this more than saying that "the cops said it gang related,"
Huey / Lawrence Franks Jr: Killed June 25, 2020

Who he was
Born to drug addicted parents (Archive) in a violent neighborhood in Missouri, Lawrence started life in an unfavorable position. Drugs were and still are a persistent, deep rooted problem where he grew up, his brother was commonly in and out of jail because of drug related criminal activity. Lawrence was almost removed from his parents home by social services because of this. He started making hip hop beats when he was fifteen, and his older brother introduced him to a producer, a woman named Angela Richardson, and became notable due to his songs 'Pop, Lock, & Drop it' and 'Oh,' He would release two albums during his career and a mixtape here and there. Apparently he was working on an upscale clothing line in the year before his death. According to Fox2, he has a thirteen year old daughter, but the mother isn't known.
How he died
Lawrence was shot and killed outside his home on Martin Luther King Blvd. Another man, aged 21, was shot as well but he survived the shooting. As of now, no information has been made public on why he was shot, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been released for public dissemination. Given the area he lived in and his brothers criminal history, there could be any number of reasons he was murdered. He could have been involved with drugs like his brother, perhaps dealing in drugs or firearms. He could have angered an opposing gang, or Lawrence might have been killed accidently. Perhaps the shooters thought they were shooting at his brother. Regardless of the reasons, he was shot dead on his front lawn.
End Notes
Beyond Pop, Lock & Drop it, Lawrence released a few albums and mixtapes, and started a clothing line. The clothing line was gaining traction, his music was fairly popular, and he had a financial basis to build from with these assets. He could have used these resources to pull himself out of the dangerous area he grew up in but he deemed it unnecessary. Instead he stayed in the area and continued interacting with people in that sphere, and more likely than not this decision directly caused his death. His daughter is left without her father, his family is destroyed, and another man was badly wounded.

Not only did he get shot 64 times after just being released on electronic monitoring, he also got two other people killed, and an old woman shot in the leg(Archive). He's been arrested a few times for drug possession and possession with intent to sell, but he has no weapon offenses. Dominique founded his own record label in 2017 called 4 Pockets Full, the roster includes himself, 42 Dugg, Rylo Rodriguez, and Chalynn Moneè. He was taken into custody on July 8th, 2021 for smuggling Marijuana in Paris, France. Who he is
Leader of the Bloods gang Unstoppable Gorilla Stone Nation, he was arrested on various racketeering, murder, narcotics, firearms and fraud offenses. Though Caswell turned himself in to authorities after the majority of his gang were imprisoned. Seventeen other members were arrested by Federal authorities before he surrendered. The U.S. district attorney stated, "As alleged in the Indictment, members of Gorilla Stone committed terrible acts of violence, trafficked in narcotics, and even engaged in brazen fraud by exploiting benefits programs meant to provide assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,"
Before this he did some music work with Chris Brown, Jah Dwella, Brash, and quite a few others. He started his own company called 2X entertainment and partnered with Warehouse Music Group. He had a single tour back in 2017, which is when he performed on the Party Tour with Chris Brown, 50 Cent, French Montana, Fabolous, O.T. Genasis and Kap G.
Out of all the people in this thread so far Caswell is the most violent retard among them, and he definitely belongs in prison. If not for the multiple homicides, drug trafficking and fraud his half-assed gang has committed then just the name of his gang alone. Speaking of him being retarded, back in January his lawyer made an offer to the Judge pleading for him to be released from jail in exchange for 2.5 Million dollars. As it stands, he's still in jail awaiting trial.

Sexual Assaults / Rapes
Rape and sexual assault are very common in the hip hop / rap scene, among all the other criminal activity and anti social behavior associated with the industry. Here's an example of one of the worst people inb the hip hop / rap scene.
R Kelly / Robert Sylvester Kelly
Internet Presence:

Facebook / Archive
Who is he
Few people don't know who R Kelly is simply for just how horrible he is as a human being. There's a lot of information out there about Robert, and I'll link you the basis sources here, here, and here, if you're interested in some long form reading. This thread is long enough without several paragraphs on Kelly. (Compared to every single person above the amount of information and quality of research is far more extensive. His Wikipedia article is longer than all the others combined by a wide margin.)
To start, Robert illegally married a fifteen year old girl in 1994. Kelly's tour manager, Demetrius Smith, said that he facilitated the wedding by obtaining falsified identification for Aaliyah that said she was 18. Robert first met the girl when she was just twelve years old. He later paid Tiffany Hawkins $250,000, after she claimed Kelly had induced her to have group sex with other teenage girls when she was 15 years old. This money was part of a settlement with a confidentiality agreement attached to it.
On February 3, 2002, a video surfaced allegedly showing Kelly engaging in sex with, and urinating on, an underage girl. This incident is the most controversial of his career and is often cited by many as the reason they hate R Kelly. Robert was slated to perform at the Olympic games when the video, and corresponding story, went viral. Later that year he was indicted on twenty-one counts of child pornography, and that same month he was arrested in Florida on a Chicago arrest warrant and sent back to Chicago for trial. He was found not guilty of fourteen counts and the other seven were dropped due to lack of evidence. This trial lasted several years.
The Polk County Sherriff department, investigating the allegations against Kelly, searched his Florida home and found a digital camera containing over a dozen images of Kelly engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl. It was the same girl that he urinated on in the infamous video that started most of his legal woes. R Kelly was arrested on January 22, 2003 at Miami's Wyndham Grand Bay Hotel on those charges of 12 counts of possession of child pornography. He paid his bond and was out of custody mere hours later and the charges were dropped less than a year later because the higher court determined that the search warrants were obtained without proper cause. As such, the evidence, the literal child pornography, was ruled inadmissible by the judge.
R Kelly is also accused of having an underage sex cult. Parents of three underage girls have alleged that he held them in an abusive, MDSM style cult. Various other accusations over the years have resulted from this, and a dozen or more other incidents of women coming forward about his aggressive sexual behavior. Most have not badly effected R Kelly, as he is a monolith in music and privileged beyond 99% of humanity. because of his privilege he's managed to stay out of jail until recently. Here's the final recap.
In March, 2019 R Kelly was indicted on ten counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the crimes ranging from 1996 to 2010. R Kelly blamed social media for the allegations, insisting he was and still is innocent.
In July of the same year R Kelly was arrested by US Homeland security investigators and was indicted on a further eighteen counts of child sexual abuse, forced labor, child producing child pornography, kidnapping, and many other charges. Additional charges were piled on over the next few weeks. Unlike his previous crimes R Kelly was denied bail repeatedly and he currently awaits trial in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. His trial is set to start August 9th, 2021.
Conclusion / End Notes
The rap / hip hop scene has a lot of crazy shit happening in it. The sheer amount of criminal behavior on display is mind blowing for such a small, relatively, portion of the music industry. It's interesting to look into some of these people to see what caused them to go into this lifestyle and the effects it has on so many people both inside and outside of the community. There are many rappers who warrant mockery for their terrible behavior and for being killed in various shootouts, but often the information is limited. Kelly is the only one with in depth research into him by media outlets I've found. Maybe we can bring some more information to light with this thread.
