i didn't want every character i liked to be like me, i wanted them to be real enough to care about
i don't want every character to be fucking autistic. i want them to be interesting.

if tumblr wrote a book it would 2000 pages of descriptions of characters, and the plot would be "one day 'x' and 'y' did something and beat the evil cis-white-patriarcy by buying a cool SU shirt at a big name shopping center"

Representation in media does matter because it can shift the public's perception about groups that the major media might not normally acknowledge. However, I think it's more important that those characters, if they are made, should be people first. For them to be defined solely by their race, sexuality, gender or disabilities reeks of insincerity or just pandering.

Just compare Ms. Marvel to female Thor. Ms. Marvel has been selling quite well not because Kamala Khan is Marvel's first Muslim superhero (although that is pretty cool), but because she's an interesting, well-written character. If the writing sucked, it would just be an empty gesture appealing pretty much only to the demographic it represented. But since her comic is good, the new Ms. Marvel has a wider appeal, exposing a Muslim superhero to a wider audience, which is equally as important.

Meanwhile female Thor beats up strawmen talking about misogyny.

representation is important, but i think that's not what SJWs and tumblrinas care about
they seem to want everyone to be like them, and have no personality at all
