There was a time period (around 2012, I believe) where Dan's and Phil's relationship was strained due to thirsty fans interpreting their close friendship as a secretly homosexual romantic relationship and making a fuss about it. So, it's definitely not true that you can't push a sexuality on someone who's straight.

A similar thing was called out recently was the Markiplier x Jacksepticeye thing which I always found really creepy. Jack even had to say that the shipping made him uncomfortable. Another one I always remember from back when I was a kiddo watching minecraft videos was Skydoesminecraft and Deadlox were always shipped but I think they just turned that thing into a joke

Why would anyone want to present as more autistic. Having autism is already hard enough to deal with for many people, purposely trying to make yourself seem more autistic is only going to alienate you further from society.

I was diagnosed with autism at an early age by a psychiatrist. I’ve since been able to blend in better to society thanks to years of therapy and public school. Having autism is a pain sometimes, but the way to get through it is to conform to societal standards, not make yourself more exceptional by “acting” as autistic as possible and expecting everyone else to accept it

Maybe it's like how sometimes when people come out as gay, it seems like they suddenly start acting more stereotypically gay, because now they aren't subconsciously suppressing it? Although I have seen high-functioning autistics stim and it's generally stuff regular people also do like rhythmic pencil tapping or fidgeting.

A lot of self-diagnosed autistic bloggers claim just that, that they're no longer suppressing their behavior because they've chosen to accept their autistic identity. The problem is that they rarely if ever have a story like "my teachers always told me to stop spinning my pencil because it was a distraction to the class, but I do it now that I'm in college because it helps me concentrate". It's typically more like "I just came out as autistic and started flapping my arms around and rocking in my chair because Tumblr told me those are common stims".

It still goes on on Tumblr to this day with Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. If you go through the Larries tag it's an absolute trip over how nutty those fans are.
