Since we're on the subject of offense, I came across this popular Tumblr post.

It offended most of Tumblr, obviously. I would have left this post alone but I saw "concentration camp" which sealed the deal.

Technically, the Japanese internment camps we had in America were concentration camps, and there wasn't any gassing of Japanese Americans in there. But people were being detained against their will, which fits that definition. So, yeah. We technically have concentration camps.

Honestly, the comic does a better job of just how shitty a situation this puts people who are just doing their jobs in, because they have to enforce a shitty policy that does inhumane shit like this, and people are fleeing Mexico to get to the United States because fucking drug cartels are decapitating people and leaving their heads in the streets. I cannot pretend to know where to even start on fixing the situation with illegal border crossings, but this policy is so toxic, even Trump had to back off of it and try and deflect blame onto the Democrats for some retarded-ass reason.

This is just an ugly situation any way you look at it.

ICE camps are concentration camps in the same way that FCIs are: they concentrate people who have broken federal law. I guess prisons and jails are also concentration camps.

They aren't directed at anyone of any particular race or ethnicity or national origin, other than that of not being present in the United States legally. So they're not concentration camps in the sense that Japanese internment camps were, which were also used on loyal and natural born American citizens solely on the basis of ethnicity.

White people from Mexico who got here illegally would be and are interned in the same places.

If they're fleeing specific threats to themselves, such that they personally can expect to be victims in the immediate future if they're returned, they have a "reasonable fear of persecution" and can claim asylum. (And IMO in that case they should also be put somewhere safe and not kept in the same facilities as the very cartel members they fear, and maybe even put in the witness protection program if they have anything useful.)

However, just the general fact that they come from a shithole and it might happen doesn't give them any claim to asylum.
 
Didn't some woman fake her asylum and take one of her kids (the daughter) to cross from Mexico to US? Didn't the husband also say it's because she wanted to get rich?
I'm pretty sure the daughter was the famous girl in red coat photo. If that's true, it's not helping people who genuinely need to come here.

Uuuh that might just be you, bruh. Unless I'm remembering DBZ wrong (it's been years since I've watched it), fusion wasn't a metaphor for sex or relationships. In Steven Universe, the characters literally say that fusing is all about relationships blahblahblah shitty relationship = shitty fusion or something. In DBZ, all I remember is "Fusion makes you stronger! If you flex your pinky, your fusion comes out anorexic."

I love Electron's addition to this post. Because it's true. People who do this to strangers aren't doing this to be dicks. In most cases it's because they're overwhelmed and stressed and trying to cope with bad situations. They share to strangers not to be assholes, but because it's a normal way of coping. It's a normal human thing. Yes, sometimes people do it badly and will vent and be rude, but in most of the cases I see, they say it in non-rude ways. The fact that people on Tumblr fail to understand basic human reactions like this is kind of troubling, tbh.

Well, they're not annoyed, just don't get something. Maybe they just didn't think about it that much on the first place. Also, it might be hard to be empathetic when you have a lot on your own shoulders.

For example, I had similar experience with retail job. As a simple worker I had nothing to give to those people who cried, or was telling about their problems/ about deaths of loved ones and so on. And, honestly, I never questioned why those people were telling me something at all. This is just how life works. Since shop was made for selling stuff for funerals, this work taught me to keep a distance and never let other people's life get too close to my heart. The only thing you can do for these people is just do your work.

Interesting. At this point though I'm assuming it's because so many people on Tumblr don't understand people or are self centered. And from what I've seen most of them don't even get basic human emotions or interaction. This thread alone proves that to me, tbh.

I think, there lies a big difference between "I don't know how to respond to someone's telling me about their daughter's death" and "You guys, telling someone about their problem is neurotypical!!".
And, honestly you'll never be ready to cases like in the first one example. You're just a worker, probably young and tired, and then person with their own pain happens. In these situations you have no way to actually fix anything and those people don't need your "i'm sorry" either. They need a listener, but, imho, it should be a psychologist, not a random person who is not ready for this kind of interaction.

I get what you're saying. The way I see it is that people just blurt this stuff out and it comes with the territory of dealing with personal problems in their life. I get people not knowing how to handle the information and not understanding what to say. That makes sense. But the people who are like "they're just doing it to be an asshole to you" I can't say I agree with those ones.

However, there is one thing that's funny to me about all this. These are the same people who overshare every little thing about their lives and say WAY TOO MUCH that we don't need to know. They technically do the same thing.

Like I said above, I think it's funny when people on Tumblr rant about this kind of thing when they do the same on their blogs. They talk about their bowel movements and overshare and discuss their private sanitary problems and overshare like hell to the public. But god forbid a customer slips out a personal problem to them. Oh no, can't have that.

I would've moved away from her if I caught her giving me "that nod", cause that would be damn creepy - why do these people assume that women have a hidden language, or whatever? Do they legit never go outside? I mean, I understand escapism, but you should atleast try understanding the society around.
