Men irl are less likely to like cats than women, but Internet people in general love cats. Even on a male dominated forum of misanthropic trolls like /b/ the one thing you could do that would drive them absolutely berserk to the point of hunting you down and ruining your life was harming a cat. Case in point: Dusty the cat.

They sort of did, though, probably first in ancient Egypt. They had just gotten agriculture up and running and were storing grain supplies. But those grain supplies attracted rats and other vermin, which would devour much of the grain and befoul the rest with waste product and disease. This could lead to famine.

The rats attracted cats, though. The cats not only ate the rats, but were completely uninterested in the grain. On top of that, they'd even go out and bury their own shit in the sand. All of this was just their natural behavior.

It was more of a symbiotic relationship at first, but then they started attaching religious significance to them and keeping them as pets on purpose, and cats evolved to get cuter and cuter to the point we now keep them around even when they're lazy, selfish, greedy assholes who do nothing useful at all.

I wouldn't be surprised tbh. I've seen a post about people hating dogs to the point of abusing them back in 2013 and it's sickened me. Thankfully the blog and post are no longer available, but jesus christ tumblr.
