The only reason why everyone made jokes about it was because the people who expressed serious negative opinions were derided over it because it was "just a movie, lol w/e, probably closeted yourself".

I also remember scads of news items where people were talking about what an OMG emotional experience it was for them, they're totally cured of their homophobia now...
 
Oh yeah, like straight romance dramas aren't made fun of all the time. Titanic is nowadays a joke for most people and Seinfeld pretty much ruined the English Patient for everyone.
 
I remember seeing a gay man correcting another tumblr user about what happened during the early days of the gay rights movement, thanks to his firsthand account, and then at the end of his post he put a disclaimer that they shouldn't discredit what he was saying because he was cis and white (because he wasn't either, apparently). You shouldn't even have to say that. The fact that white gay men are brought under fire is just ridiculous. (Same with white straight women when it comes to women's issues)

This. White gay men have been on tumblr's shit list for a while now for being "privileged". Unless you're black or a glorified fujoshit uwu soft trans boi thing you get no love from tumblr.
 
They can reblog it if they want, it'll never be canon. If Marvel ever decides to do that they'll lose even more fans. But I don't see point in being excited about trans Peter when the company already bent over backwards for you and you never bought their comics past the first issue to show everyone how progressive you are. You'll buy it, never read it, and forget the local comic shop exist until they shit out more diversity.
 
I don't think most SJWs even bought the first issue. Most SJWs who like comics stick to the movies and each other's shitty fanfiction and that's it. Last I heard marvel was gonna cut back on the SJW pandering crap this fall because it caused sales to tank that badly.

Buy comics and read them? Ew, no. They don't enjoy anything; they aren't allowed to. A moment's actual innocent pleasure would mean that they could possibly find happiness under anything less than complete societal domination by their religion--oops, I mean philosophy--and that might be heresy.
 
And they dislike reading, for some unknown reason. i thought "nerds" were into reading back in the day.
