Ya heard it from here, folks! Capitalism causes drug addiction. Forget all that shit about personal choice. Now of course drug addicts (especially those who want to change) should be treated compassionately. However, 20-somethings on Tumblr who think they know how the world works have extended this compassion to even the concept of addiction. If you say anything about how horrible addiction and hard drugs are, to them you are demonizing addicts (or "addict-shaming" which is probably a thing).

I'm always amused at the tendency for tumblr to treat faults of character as some kind of societal issue. Are you pimping out your 12 year old daughter for drug money? You're not a terrible person; it's not your fault. You're just misunderstood and an innocent victim of society.
The fact remains that people become drug addicts because they have terrible judgement and poor impulse control. It's a personal failing of shitty people, not some misunderstood victim.
