To be honest, they're not completely 100% out of the realm of reality with that, unlike everything else, "God you're such a fag." "Yes, I am gay." etc.

As for the Star Wars one, it's not just Rey and Kylo Ren. Tumblr would also rather see the black guy with the Guatemalan guy than with the white girl because it indulges their sense of POC segregation as well as their gay fetishization.

Eh, the impression I get is that they prefer Poe/Finn to Rey/Finn is because its m/m more than anything else (cause tumblr gotta have its kawaii yaoiz). The most popular Kylo ship actually seems to be Kylo/Hux, which is of course also m/m.

On a related note, I'll have to dig it up but I found a wonderfully special post going apeshit about how Reylo was wrong because Rey is a chick but Kylux is fine because they're both evil white guys. Also found one where someone was getting buttfrustrated by people calling the First Order space Nazis.

And to think all I wanted was goofy art of Darth Hot Topic and friends.
 
Personally I feel that doing anything for the sake of diversity is tokenism.
