His best piece of all time IMO is "My mind is a blank," which he drew right after the Gamestop incident. It's the only real art he's ever made.

Anyone can get better at art with time. If Chris's art skills did not improve in 16 years... well I would say it'd be concerning but there are way more concerning things about him.

it's just you.

If you look at the new drawings, like commissions and what not, they are actually not that bad. Compared to his old drawings that looked like a retarded 2 year old drew them, that is. My question is how are his art skills getting better if he never makes the comics anymore and just play vidya all day?

You know that now that you've made this, about a month or so from now Chris is going to make some really god awful shitty artwork that will prove you wrong, right?

I feel like comparing the oldest Sonichu drawings to the newest you do see a bit of improvement. I think the sort of anime style he tried to adopt might have resulted in slightly less awful art.
If you compare this old drawing of himself

to this newer one

Ok, it's still bad but he's mildly more human looking. His head is closer to what actual human heads look like as opposed to the milk dud shape going on in the older picture.

If you're going to make a bold claim like Chris's art getting significantly better, you should provide some examples in the OP to back it up.

Chris' art, like much about him, is that of a child.

Technical proficiency is one thing. The ability to draw recognizable objects. Chris is mediocre at that. Not great, but I admit that he is better than me. It also seems to vary, I assume with the amount of effort he has put into it. I do see a general trend that some of his newer stuff seems a little better on that front. Probably just practice. If he spends 5 minutes drawing a scene from Sonichu, it is going to be better the thousandth time he does it than it was the first or tenth time.

But he has no sense of art. At one level, his sense of perspective and stuff is all off. But at another, he does things like color things in with Magic Markers. It's incredibly juvenile.

He also has no sense of his limitations, and thinks he is a great artist. Which makes it even worse. I freely admit that I am probably below the 10th percentile in terms of technical proficiency, and Chris is probably a fair bit above that. But my guess would be that I could create an art piece that looked more legitimate than Chris' work. Firstly, by being aware of what I can do and what I can't. And secondly by not doing dumb things like coloring it in with magic markers.

Basically, Chris' art is that of a 10 year olds. He may be improving, but he is improving in a way that moves it from mediocre 10 year old's work to pretty decent 10 year olds' work. None of his "improvements" make it look like it was done by someone who has hit puberty.

I get the feeling that if Chris had motivation to get better at drawing, he could. He has a basis he could work from, but also looking at his vid of how to draw Sonichu... Yeah. He'd need an instructor to focus and prod him along. I've seen people who couldn't even draw a straight line improve significantly in just a few months with in-person lessons.

Chris probably would wave off the idea as he is perfect, but if a sweetheart was involved he might...?
