The books were the Scary Stories trilogy, and this pic is a collage of art from the books. I have been on a Scary Stories kick since I found out they CHANGED THE FUCKING ART.

Well that explains where they came from. Honestly as kid, I found it to be creepy. Even as an adult they look unsettling.

Me too. Those books are what kicked off my love affair with horror at a very early age. We used to have book fairs every year in school and I remember in, I think, 2nd or 3rd grade BEGGING my parents to buy me the first book when it came out. A month of nightmares later and I was hooked on horror.
