As an amusing historical note, a Gothic language was spoken in the southern part of Crimea until the 18th century. Not all the tribes went west into Europe.


The ethnic make up of Crimea is quite varied, the southern coast has been full of trade ports since classical Greece. It was a favorite location to exile people to at least through to the Byzantines.
