They are fun though, pretty much a moped in bicycles clothing, one that you don't need a licence for and can legally ride on the sidewalk.

You can't ride on the sidewalk.
Nearly all municipalities CLEARLY indicate that 'no motor vehicles' are allowed on sidewalks.
An electric motor is a motor. But for some reason, cities are only casually enforcing laws on these vehicles.
(btw - they aren't allowed on the street without a license plate, either)
