The idea is horrendous but that trailer was pure, unadulterated nostalgia.

Ragnarok Online was slightly before my time, was it really a game about grinding mobs by spamming AoEs all day?
Not generally no - AoE grinding was pretty tough so you'd have to grind on single mobs more often then not. Skills were scarce, items were rare, so a lot of classes focused on cheap skills or auto attacks. A lot of Archer leveling was finding a specific spot where you could hit an enemy but they couldn't hit you back (top of a cliff, across a river, etc) and then doing auto attacks and going AFK.

It was really grindy but had a certain charm to it - but some of the higher grinds were astronomical. Very similar grind and progression to Maplestory which was around the same time.

It made 2004's World of Warcraft feel like you were on an EXP Rocketship for comparison.

I came into WoW in 2004 having played Everquest, Ragnarok Online (mostly pservers), and Final Fantasy XI.

I literally felt like I was playing the fucking Weenie Hut Jr of MMOs. It was crazy hearing people in like 2019 talk about WoW classic as if it was some hardcore MMO only spergs could tolerate.

Yeah same.

It was literally the absolute most casual MMO ever released by a wide margin. Which was a good and popular thing, because some of these games were held together with bad translations and duct tape.

Sounds riveting. Can't wait to try it myself. I think it goes to show that old MMOs were carried entirely by the social aspect of it the games, which sadly has been killed by overmoderation and Discord.

I await for the private servers.
they couldn't get ragnarok 2 pservers because that shit was a mess, i don't give 6 months for them to cancel this one either even with autoplay.
... don't fuck this up.
most of the shit teased is literally what they could have patched the original game with, what the fuck is going on at gravity?
