>you will no longer be able to access the game
i think whoever wrote this forgot that this game works offline with no modifications whatsoever. sure grindy as fuck but mobile AND EA game after all, atleast now someone has chance to un-p2w it without updates runing/adding something
late post-shutdown update for people who happen to care about 10 year old mobile game: it does work, but certain things became broken or outright inaccessable, like time passing when trying to upgrade car, some events i believe, etc, oh and game data obviously wont download, though people already archived it for multiple versions. linking them just in case

I hate that I'm excited for Horizon Japan because you just know they're gonna fumble the map, aggressively monetize bullshit, and insist the player created races/props will save it.

But I'm still getting it day one to drift through the mountains and bomb the highway. Tokyo Extreme Racing can only contain me for so long.

seeing stuff like this really makes me want to say "i was born in wrong generation"
atleast nfs still keeps the "you are getting slow ass car for a beggining nigga" instead of just being forza tier slop with free lamborginis...
On ONE hand........fucking Forza said - its about your skills, not the car. On the other hand - same Forza (horizon) abolished racing aspect in a racing game (and yes, ranked board is damn near the quintessential part of a racing game with multiplayer). M$ tried to chase Polyphony and ultimately only really succeeded briefly in copying Test Drive Unlimited and NFS, 4 times. Engine swap anything? Realistically it's nowhere near as physically possible, yet everything gets AWD Racing V12 swap......

Honest grace of Forza is being a wannabe GT that hasn't died yet and being available on PC as well.

I've always fancied Underground or Carbon over Most Wanted.
Carbon was SUCH shit with late-game fucking constant, random encounter shit I wanted to uninstall that piece of garbage so many times.........but then it was the only NFS with a MR2....

By that, they mean "change the difficulty to easy" and have a precise meta car build or just drive sport cars whenever possible. Forza Horizon now is an enigma of a racing game. You could have one of the best cars available in your infinite garage within hours thanks to random RNG slot machines. Then what? Just drive that. It's not like losing has any penalty, but winning feels superfluous since progression could be cheesed.

I'm ALL for cheesing single-player, but like you would in GT using skills to skid that FWD shitbox through corners and such. But Horizon.........again, on ONE hand - put a fave body on that steel frame you'd like, on the other hand ignore the abysmal fuck out of unique handling thanks to the frame and body design working together with the engine placement and weight.....

I won't even go into giving players complete freedom to MS paint vinyl designs and then banning people for doing just that because they assume every child will immediately know wtf "069" racing number actually means....

Think about the essence of what makes racing games enjoyable. Stakes, personality, ownership, hell, the sense of SPEED. Horizon's current formula lacks stakes, lacks ownership, replaces personality with positivity. Once you've experienced it, what's left? Doing the same races over and over on a big, cluttered open map.

How 5 massacred the sweats of doing Forzathongs to actually get neat cars if you ground that shit all week.....just uggggh.....

I probably need to go back to finishing re/(proper)playing Shift 1, 2, and Grid 1 & 2.

Like 2 years ago I went through the entire TDU2 and holy hell those uniquely awkward-ass-all-fuck physics drove me crazy, but damn was the game still gorgeous.

I would need to play the first Forza Horizon to understand what is missing from Horizon's festival getaway onward.
I first managed to try 3, then bought into 4 at launch (smooooooooth ass launched in all), and then 5 ruined the entire damn experience. Not even gonna bother with 6 until it gets stupidly easy to pirate and would thus run on my 1070m.

Side note but related, fuck Nacon and what they've done to the Test Drive series. You had a series that had "realistic" depictions of driving going back to the DOS days and games that laid the blueprints for the open world "car MMO" that other games would later attempt to varying degrees of success. All they had to do was make TDU2 with nicer assets and and a better driving model and it would have sold gangbusters. Now, it has numbers on Steam that make Marathon look healthy.

TDUSC has been an anomality in that it has some traits of Concordverse-games, but still managed to keep its servers up much longer than most of those games, even though it's peak Steam player count was a LOT less than both Highguard and Marathon:
  • The game had a way too-long of a development cycle due to incapable devs, release date was delayed for at least 2 years, and yet the game still released as a buggy mess.
  • The game's servers are made of paper, and the game was literally unplayable on launch, and servers have issues whenever they have a Free-to-play weekend.
  • They attempted to implement a Kernel-level anticheat for PC players due to hacking the leaderboards, but they went with a 3rd-rate one (SARD, which is Armenian-made, so the SAARD jokes aren't funny), it was broken that it literally caused game crashes, and they eventually got rid of it.
  • The servers are both platform AND region-locked, and game saves are also region-locked too, meaning if you either travel or use a VPN, it will create a new game save.
  • They overemphasize "bug fixes" as QOL changes during their patches, and also keep pushing back those changes for "reasons".
  • The devs had a vision from the start to make TDU into the said MMO game, while disregarding most of what people liked about TDU, and even the attempts to copy features like the dealerships feels like stale copies in comparison.
It's only just a matter of time before the game shuts down, due to Nacon declaring insolvency.

And the Season 6 Mid-Season update for TDUSC is yet another paid car:
