Austin Ogonoski even did a semi-professional pitch for something that would deviate from this norm and likely would work if for no other reason than licenses for all the cars being so damn expensive these days. I still remember his rants from /ovg/ and how all the journalistic collusion back in 2014 was established in the world of automotive press.

I used to read pretendracecars.net in high school, although since it didn't get updated very often I'd have to switch over to the daily stormer to have something to read between classes. Good times.
Maybe way back then he would have been worth having a thread about, but everything was so long ago and /ovg/ is so dead it's probably pointless. His self-published book about meeting a BPD girl at a looney bin and getting in trouble over it is autobiographical, I remember that much.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=ivgllUZIUHcAnyone know if this is game is any good? It looks cool, I wish there more combat racing games like Twisted Metal and this is definitely inspired by that. I have a couple red flags though:
>early access
>PS1 artstyle
I think it's made by slavs so hopefully it's not lame in spite of that? just curious if anyone's played Fumes before I try out the demo.
It's really good, physics are enjoyable, there's a shit ton of car customization, the combat is addictive and the maps are big. The only problem i have with this game is the progression system since it takes a while for us to get the good stuff but it's a solid game nonetheless.
The only hard parts in pursuits are the spike roads, a entire squad stopping you, the fucking helicopter and the cooldown part when sometimes you want to go into a hideout but the game pops you a cop in front of you.
There's 2 ways to avoid helis in Most wanted: the first one being hiding in any tunnel you can find (it will break their line of sight and you can get cooldown by doing that), the second is tricking them into hitting those giant radio tower hazards spread across the map (it will take them out instantly).

TDU Solar Crown will be added to PS Plus on February 17, but will still unlikely draw a large number of people to play:

I am afraid FH6 will be online only, because they did that with FM 2023.

They're hoping to rope people into the micro transactions is my guess
What's the point in playing Solar Crown since TDU 1 with Platinum Mod is so much better than this.
It's funny how older games have much more cars to choose from.

They do have a lot of games in their roster, i.e. TDU Solar Crown, MXGP, the upcoming Endurance Motorsports Series, and they distribute the console version of Rennsport. Despite this financial trouble not being directly related to them, those are a lot of bad games to have to carry around, namely how they kept TDUSC still going even after it was shit on launch and is still shit today.

Nacon also apparently used AI to edit the TDUSC cover for “Nacon Games See You in 2026” video:

I'm surprised they didn't race change this guy into a Black or Pajeet.

Bandai Namco will be uploading more soundtracks from the Ridge Racer games:

Took a gamble on Rogue Shift.

I like it.

The devs have announced a handling overhaul, which is unfortunate, but might work out for the best.

I disagree with complaints that the cars are too heavy. I think the problem is the starter cars are a muscle car and a lead brick. ie. Tough, heavy things. Once you get things like the metro unlocked, it's twitchy. My only real complaint with the handling is that once you start a slide, it's almost impossible to recover. It's as if once a slide starts, you need a very specific circumstance to stop.

I also don't understand the demand for multiplayer. How the fuck would you even start to balance it?

My other issues with the game are some of the rogue like stuff. ie. Losing a run due to bad RNG. Having a run where you get no perk synergies and keep getting events your car isn't fit for. Such as getting a "wreck 6 opponants" objective in a car with the mass of a teacup and about as fragile. Ammo is also tight, but I imagine that is fixed once you get perks?

How is Nacon still around? If they're churning out multiple shitty games, why won't people just stop buying that shit.

I don't know about Rogue Shift, but I hope they don't add it, that's too much shit on their backs they have to deal with.

People haven't been buying their games, and yet they somehow stay afloat for way longer than they should:

And after TDUSC was added to PS Plus, the rating on PS5 dropped to 2.15, which is lower than Rennsport, as Nacon distributes that game on consoles:

I wish people would stop making these dumb ass fucking simulator games. Please make it stop for the love of fucking genuine goddamn god, I'm livid of seeing those.

I'm tempted to write and post a full review of Rogue Shift. The major handling overhaul landed today, along with a new car. Here's my take.

The handling is an improvement. It fixes my main issue with the handling by making it easier to regain control. This feels like it makes the game easier, as I'm not floundering as much. I'm not 100%, but I think they tweaked a bunch of other stuff too. Like impacts letting out a sphere of electric.

The new car is nice, but it seems to be a reskin of an existing car. Sort of.

Again, RNG is the big fun killer but also the point. There's no shame in Jetass being a run killer because it's basically a hard speed check. This makes heavy, combat focused vehicles useless. I also suspect he has pretty heavy rubber banding. I think it would make more sense if there was a combat option to deal with him (he regens health so combat is a no-go), but then combat builds would dominate.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but I like how cars get more damaged and blood covered as a run goes.

It's a shame to see how Solar Crown turned out. I put a metric shit ton of hours in Test Drive Unlimited (and TDU2 to a lesser extent) and absolutely fell in love with the series. The driving mechanics have always just been okay, but it was great as a collective package as an auto enthusiast lifestyle game. The atmosphere and detail of the dealer showrooms is one of those things I am amazed games like Forza or GT haven't adopted. It was a mindblowing experience for young me to walk into a Ferrari dealership and seeing that iconic color scheme adorning the building, with coloring options and interior choices lining the walls with steering wheels from the cars of Ferrari's racing legacy. It was cool being able to customize your cars down to interior options and it made the process of getting a new car more personal. The progression and money flow were paced well enough that you didn't have to grind a ton, but still felt satisfied when you saved up enough for a new high-end car or a new property to customize and show off cars in. The map size is actually larger than most Forza Horizon games (all of them by a large margin in TDU2's case with Hawaii and Ibiza). Even though the map isn't super dense with points of interest, the variety in scenery combined with the sheer scale are great for cruising. The game even has a fully rendered cockpit view, the ability to roll down your windows, and retract your convertible top (a "new feature" in FH5). You can even cut off the engines, which have a unique quirk of having different startup times based on the car's era (i.e. older cars take slightly longer to start). To top it off, my favorite part, every vehicle has gauges that accurately recreate the visual style of the car. There's just so much attention to detail for the people who truly love cars.

The Xbox 360 and PC versions are a bit hollow given how their online services have been down for a while. The PS2 port of TDU, however, is a complete single player experience that only sacrifices some graphical fidelity and a couple side activities, leaving the car roster and map scale intact. For a 20 year old game, it has aged remarkably well. The racing "MMO" concept was pretty ambitious for the time and laid the groundwork for the Forza Horizon series.

Test Drive literally pioneered the concept of "3D racing games" as we know it today, before Virtua Racing and Ridge Racer on the big arcade cabinets even. I personally put a lot of time into TDU on the PS2 myself and I'm kind of sad to see the series devolve into the state it's in right now.

There's a yuge discount on The Crew Motorfest on Steam (7 euros instead of 70). Is it worth buying or should I wait for the new Forza Horizon?

Ubisoft does a lot of discounts for The Crew games, so 7 Euros is pretty good for what you get. I don't remember if they ever discounted Motorfest by that much though.

It's even more infuriating that Solar Crown was a doomed project from the start. From the producers openly saying that they were going to chase after the Forza Horizon crowd and abandoning the lifestyle aspects (i.e. houses, casinos, cosmetic shops, racing rivals) that people loved about TDU, to the doomed development that saw 2 years of delays but the game still ended up being crap, a guy name Alex VII that quit his aerospace job to become a pure dicksucker community manager for a failed racing game, and now Nacon putting out bomb after bomb after bomb of games is finally showing it's rear head.

Since TDUSC effectively would have no value to it in terms of debt restructuring to keep the game going, where would the TDU license end up being sold to?

I mean it's a 90% sale, game isn't quite EOL yet (might be :optimistic:), might as well get it for shits and giggles

Ubisoft has revealed the cars for the Season 3 lineup. The NASCAR cars with actual liveries are paywalled (its $20 to get all of them), and the RC cars are only available for Year 3 pass owners right now.

Is it because the NASCAR licensing is THAT expensive, or is it part of Ubisoft's desperation due to their financial woes?

A lot of people are whining about how these paywalls, but considering how some other games have even more expensive microtransactions to purchase just ONE car... Looking at you both Gran Turismo 7 and Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.

And unsurprisingly, Nacon has postponed their Nacon Connect to May:
