It wasn't just advocating for a currency backed by a consumable, it was advocating for a currency backed by a consumable under the assumption that it would resolve inflation.

You know, because nothing tackles inflation better than backing a currency with something which:

  • Fluctuates between a surplus during summer and fall toward an equilibrium and then deficit during the winter and early spring
  • Can easily be produced and is often in abundance
  • Is difficult to properly measure (Do we use bushels? Pounds? Metric tonnes?)
  • Can easily be imported and often is imported
Then again it's kind of autistic to poke holes in the economic understanding of a Venezuela apologist, since everyone that isn't a Venezuela apologist already knows that it's stupid.

It's the worst case of Dutch disease I've heard of in recent history. Russia is also over-dependent on oil, but they're trying to diversify their economy so as to avoid disaster.

Holy shit. There are some indications that the CIA did have contact with Saloth Sar, even after the fall of Phnom Penh, but it's sketchy and not all that reliable. Even if it were credible, it'd just amount to sour grapes on the part of the CIA as they weren't as free to do as they pleased in SE Asia in the wake of US withdrawal from Vietnam.

There's equally credible evidence (that is to say not very) that the CIA offered some assistance the Vietnamese when they went into Democratic Kampuchea. CIA spooks are weird, who would've figured?

Nope, reds, Pol Pot was a piece of shit and the CIA didn't have to do much to make him that. He was more than capable of it on his own.
