The early days of parenthood are notoriously tough, especially for first time parents. You absolutely do have to deal with an abrupt change in your lifestyle, combined with lack of sleep, less sex, and all the anxieties that come from keeping another little human alive. It's tough on your relationships and your wellbeing the same way that training for a marathon is tough on your body.

A real friend would express a bit of empathy for someone going through a stressful situation, even if it's something they wouldn't choose for themselves.

A friend with actual perspective (i.e. a friend who has been through the newborn phase of parenting) could lay on them the truth: yes the newborn phase is tough. yes all the other phases are tough too, but they get progressively more rewarding as well. Being a parent is one of the most rewarding relationships you can have. Parenting obviously isn't for everyone, and I honestly believe there's nothing wrong with choosing to remain childless if you know you'd make a shitty parent, but thinking all of it sucks because the early parts suck simply isn't true.

The reddit commenters do exactly what every shithead on social media does: they couch their selfishness in the language of therapy. OP is right to be a gleeful cunt because her friend's choice to raise a family caused op "distress." She's not being a bitch she's "grieving a living person." Sometimes it seems they try to outdo each other when it comes too hatred of kids ; "I hate kids. " "Oh yeah well i hate them so much i wanna choke them on sight"

When I was about 13, I was babysitting for a family friend of mine. She just wouldn’t stop crying. I tried everything. I’m one of those guys who’s hoping to be a father, but of course can’t find anyone due to social skills and just general public autism.
