"Mark Anthanasius Chad Anthony Hall-Barnett"
JESUS CHRISTOS CHADDIUS SIGMATTICUS CAESAR of the HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE WAS BORN

Why did he hyphenate the kid's name? Barnett isn't the bride's maiden name, it's the last name of his younger brother, Gemini Barnett.

Surprising absolutely no one, Karissa Collins' is experiencing her eleventh bout of severe post partum depression. If only she'd prayed over this earlier, surely the thing that always happens to her because she is floridly mentally ill would not have happened! And don't forget to like and comment. Social media engagement is the only cure.

I'm afraid that Karissa will make a hell of a Hulu documentary someday.
We need a thread on her so bad. She's Rod family levels of awful. Maybe even more so since at least Jill is controlling over her kids and shows interest in them. Karissa just lets her kids LARP lord of the flies in another half of their house.

Passive Andrea Yates is what I like to call her. She's going to kill one or more of those kids via neglect.

Her mother and Anissa - the eldest child and chief sister mom, aged 12 - are the only reason why they are still alive to date.

Mandrae may have forbidden Karissa to kill them, but one or more child would be done in by general or medical neglect by now without those two people. One of whom is not even a teenager yet. Responsible day-to-day for ten children, babies, and infants younger than she is.

So the devil can steal joy, and prayer is the best defense god can provide? Which one is responsible for professional mental healthcare?

I don't believe in religion, but it doesn't seem like such a reach for a devout, god-believing person to believe god created brains with the capacity to develop complex medical advancements and mental health care, which is how god provides for needs, and what god expects them to pursue instead of prayer? If there is a god, s/he'd want people to avail themselves of the amazing things created in the brains s/he designed. Right?

Karissa is using text instead of a carrier pigeon, so why not prayerful pursuit of real medical treatments? Maybe god is up there pissed as hell that these people use prayer instead of the brains god gave them to help them via the resources originating in the brains he gave others. In that framework, god lit the spark that gave us refrigerators and ovens. I s Karissa praying to god to light a fire for cooking and a special request for god to keep her perishables fresh thanks to prayer alone? Prayer can freeze ice cream.

Or were all these advancements created by satan? Because, if so, that same logic turns her social media and constant phone use into her reliance on the devil's tool. Time to get an app for her carrier pigeon.

Not to mention, if god is omnibenevolent, omnipotent and omniscient, why can't s/he just put a postpartum force field around her to keep satan from stealing her mind and joy? Why does he need fervent prayer in the "fourth trimester", his omniscience would allow him to know what she's going through, the omni-benevolence (mercifulness) would encourage him to help, and the omnipotence would get the job done. Isn't that the way the abrahamic god is billed in the NT and OT? God don't need no tots and pears. but maybe some prayers of thanks and ego boosting recognition of his skillz.

This lunacy just boggles my mind. Maybe her way makes sense to someone who isn't too cynical to buy into all this. But the fundie religious way makes no sense to me. These people are in the world and of the world. They haven't cloistered themselves away in service of extreme self-reliance, the prayers-only stuff makes sense in those cultures and also cloistered intentional communities.

I do hope this is her last child, because she's one intense mental break away from an andrea yates situation. Sad stuff. Maybe it's time for them to stop buying absurd costume-outfits for their kids and invest a little money in some home and/or child care help a few days a week.

Sorry for the novel, I just struggle to make all the contradictions make sense.

I didn't want to double post so this is going to be looooooong, sorry.

Have we talked about Jason Duggar and his business fraud yet?

Something tells me that a poster of the 10 Commandments was never far from the duggar school of the dining room table, and it's almost like familiarity with those words and concepts has no bearing on a lying, cheating,, ill-gotten money grubber cloaked in the holiest of thou togs.

Don't get me wrong. This is gross, but is entirely unsurprising. Dim Bulb and the fam exude "rules for thee and not for me" out of every pore.

more like active andrea yates. her husband and his pastor or whatever made her stop taking her antipsychotics, kept getting her pregnant despite psychiatrists telling them she should never be pregnant again due to the danger, and forced her to spend time alone with the kids despite, again, psychiatrists telling him that was not safe.

She was also taking care of a parent with dementia along with the kids, iirc, although I don't think that the parent was present at the time of the murders.

I do feel for Andrea, and think that her husband and the pastor should have been jailed for life along with her. However, Andrea had periods of stability, and enough insight into her illness to know when she was about to slide into psychosis. She was thoroughly aware that praying the devil away didn't work. At any time, she could have left; just walked out the door, knowing that the kids would likely be okay minus a bit of nappy rash when their father got home from work a couple hours later. She was an adult who allowed herself to be treated like a child even though she had multiple children of her own, even though the larger society around her told her that she was more than a mindless mobile womb and that she was legally and ethically able to make decisions about her own body.

I have a lot of compassion for Andrea, but there were multiple people who would have come running to her rescue if she'd just picked up the phone and told them that she was in trouble. It wasn't like she was an uneducated bogan living in a one room, no electricity or running water, shack in the middle of the swamp, twenty kilometres away from her nearest neighbour. She was a college educated professional nurse before she met her husband, ffs.

She was a highly accomplished, educated woman who also had a lifelong battle with mental illnesses including eating disorders, self harm, severe depression, suicidal ideation spanning way back before her marriage.

Once she had kids, she was basically an involuntary cult member, reliant on her sadistic husband and his dangerous fundamentalism. It was a bad match to begin with, since Rusty told Andrea's brother that depressed people "just need a swift kick up the rear"

She was not caring for a parent with dementia as far as I know, but her father's death happened somewhat close to the infanticide, and really impacted her mental state. Her mother used to spend the day with Andrea and her kids from when Rusty left till he returned home for Andrea's safety. Rusty not only forced her off meds and ignored the advice of her psychiatric team, but he told her mother that Andrea needed to learn to be alone with the kids for a few hours a day. She murdered her kids in the space of the hour or so between Rusty leaving and her mom coming to take care of her.

She had periods of stability on medication, but she was in full-on postpartum psychosis, and also schizophrenia when this happened. It wasn't about her knowing she was sliding into psychosis, she was there and had no help to remedy it because her husband wouldn't allow her to follow the psychiatrist's orders, even after she was released from a mental institution.

Andrea couldn't have stopped herself in that moment, she was severely unwell and all safety precautions failed her thanks to Rusty. Rusty wasn't hindered by mental illness, he was just an arrogant pig. I blame him more than I blame her. If he hadn't demanded that her mother let her be alone with the kids for some time each day, the murders wouldn't have happened. If he let her stay on meds and continue treatment,it wouldn't have happened. He should be in jail too.

These extreme religions rob women of autonomy and resources to act in their own best interests. It's just fucking depressing; it didn't have to happen.

No, for most people with psychosis that's not how it works.
The descent into psychosis is slow and unless something really drastic happens to change that the person won't notice that they are sliding further away from reality.
Education has nothing to do with it.

Moid's law: as a kf thread grows longer, the probability of a moid crying about feminism or wahmen approaches 1.

Poor Karissa, it’s almost like giving birth every 10-12 months isn’t great for your body or brain…I hope her husband stops jizzing in her for the time being at least

Eleven severe depressive episodes are not going to leave anyone in a state where meaningful recovery is possible.

If you had livestock that suffered a potentially fatal illness every time you bred them, you'd stop breeding them. She's given less consideration than a cow would be.

She was told not to have more kids as well, but Rusty forced her.

He was told she was not to be left alone with the kids as there had been credible threats of infanticide made by her regularly. And she came off her medication. Perfect fucking storm.

That's not strictly true with PPP (post partum psychosis)., which occurs between 2 and 4 weeks post birth. And it can be terrifying.

Powerlevel: I have suffered from post natal psychosis. I remember very little about it but I do remember hearing my mother (who was a midwife but hundreds of km away from me) telling me that it was the right thing to do to put the newborn premature baby in the hot water cupboard on top of the hot water cylinder because he would be warm and cozy. Baby would have definitely died in there. Luckily I told my hubby what I was planning to do and why and he called an ambulance. I don't have any memories between that moment and 3 months later when I suddenly 'came to' and was surprised to find my baby was 3 months old and I lived in a different house. (moved house while I was in hospital) it was surreal and I will never forget how sensible my delusions sounded...
