I guess I missed it someone in here but when did Jill and Jana have a falling out or did they not? I"m just confused as to why she wouldn't be invited to Jana's wedding

I assume it’s because Jill distanced herself from the family and wrote a book, while Jana has toed the line.

Just so we’re super clear, even though Jana shows her shoulders and apparently has attended nursing school, she’s in no way deconstructing. Her new husband is pastor of a branch the Mennonite church that firmly believe the man is headship and the wife must submit. They’re much more mainstream in dress and lifestyle than traditional conservative Mennonites or what Jana grew up with, but there is nothing whatsoever that is progressive about them.

Jana fully admits in the People article that remaining unmarried has NOT been a deliberate choice and that she has been deeply insecure about it, and that she viewed nursing school as a “plan B” alternative to marriage. The would imply that she does not view marriage/family as something compatible with a career…jobs are for childless spinsters:

"I know I've prayed for this for years and years and yeah, definitely been like, 'What's the matter? Why can't I just...' All of my siblings, most of them have been married in their early 20s," Jana says, noting that she is by far "the oldest" of her siblings to get married.

"I think as I got older, it definitely came on more and more and it felt like, 'Okay, this isn't happening. Let me figure out something else, maybe I'm supposed to be doing something else,' " she says.”

She’s only one year into “nursing school” which is surely some type of pre-nursing program where she is taking remedial English/math/science as a pre-req to be admitted into actual nursing school. That would be a struggle for anyone with 0 formal schooling. My guess is she has already dropped out of the program, or will soon, and become a stay at home mom to as many kids as she can still have (fingers crossed for waning fertility). I’d of course be very happy for her if it turns out she actually pursued the degree, but Jana is not low-key rebel. She buys into this crap just as much as Jessa.

I find this whole comment unnecessarily harsh, honestly. As long as she's not molesting her siblings while her parents turn a blind eye or beating the shit out of her kids, Jana is doing fine. At least she's trying to build a life for herself. Considering her background, it's incredible that she's interested in pursuing any kind of formal education at all.

Not everything is so black and white.

Who said she was deconstructing her faith? Who said she HAD to deconstruct her faith? Who said she was progressive or had to be progressive? It's not black or white. Jill, for instance, is no longer IBLP/IFB, and she wears pants and bathing suits and whatnot, believes in birth control, but she's still otherwise a hardcore, conservative christian. If I'm not mistaken, Jessa isn't still in the family religion, as her husband is a Calvinist minister. Jinger's husband is also a christian of a different stripe. Jinger and her dude are pretty outwardly liberal, but probably have the same core conservative beliefs that the IFBs have (edit: minus the child beating and culty bullshit).

The Duggar kids have chosen how much they cling to their parents belief, if at all. Janna's twin bro's wife, Abbie, is still a working LPN. She was also homeschooled with the same IBLP curriculum as the Duggars. The IBLP program might not be rigorous, but people survive it and go to college. A friend and her brother were raised IBLP/homeschooled, both went to college (they were disowned for it, but they did it). The friend was a 4.0 student and has a high-demand, specialized degree. Her brother went on to medical school and practices as a pediatrician. I suspect Janna will continue her program because it's probably an online program to begin with.

Sure, Jana has been unmarried all this time, and has waited per her family religion and upbringing, but she hasn't just been hanging around the house. She has a pretty high net worth from home flipping, interior design, and is a business woman in her own right, as she owns commercial real estate. She's not some mush-mouthed ninny who has been cooing over babies and teaching at the dining room table full time.

So, yeah, she married a devout man, and she still probably buys into a lot of fundie stuff. That doesn't change who she is or her aspirations. She's definitely not buying into all the crap. And if her husband wanted a total trad wife, he probably wouldn't have chosen her. By her family's account, she's pretty stubborn. (or maybe he had little choice. I could be misremembering, but I have this - possibly fake - memory of him courting an underage or nearly underage girl after they broke up the first time, but looking back I can't find a source).

Personally, I'm as liberal as they come, areligious and agnostic (at best) and wasn't raised christian. But I believe people make the choices that are best for them. I don't agree with the sentiment that any kind of christian religiosity = dumdum tradwife, and progressive quasi-christian = the only acceptable choice. It's not a binary.

Let's take a break in Jana content to bring you this: Krazy Karissa Collins had herself a toilet baby in the middle of last night. Since delivering nine hour prior, Karissa is now posting over 20 reels per hour, while her newborn latest content creator has been handed off to his sister moms.
82wpj0epk9jd1.jpeg

Karissa has suffered from postpartum psychosis with her last several deliveries, and this condition generally gets worse with each delivery (the latest kid is #11.) The last time, Karissa was having a mental breakdown because husband Mandrae wouldn't permit her to mow the lawn four days postpartum to get away from her kids temporarily. She was talked out of going to the hospital for psychiatric treatment by friends.

Now we wait and see what madness is about to come.

Oh good. Another infant to neglect till their unchanged diaper causes a UTI.

Im just making a point to counter all the breathless speculation that comes with her off-shoulder wedding dress and years of people making fan fiction up in their heads that maybe Jana is rebelling by never marrying and having kids. Everyone is always waiting for one of these kids to fully deconstruct and denounce the whole damn thing but none of them are actually on that path. I didn’t say she had to deconstruct. I HOPE she builds a life for herself that makes her happy. But My point is that she’s not really going that far afield from the status quo she was raised with, and we probably shouldn’t get our hopes too high that she’s gonna do much more than what every other fundie woman does. And most of them don’t seem to be particularly happy.

Hope this doesn't lead to another Andrea Yates situation.

It's definitely a possibility. The only hope here that it doesn't, is that Mandrae doesn't work outside the home - hopefully he could stop Karissa before she did anything rash.

But from past videos we know that Karissa rarely even visits the second floor of the home, expecting her oldest daughter (who is only thirteen) to be taking care of everything and everyone on the children's floor. And Mandrae thinks any sort of childcare is women's work. So if Karissa went on a rampage upstairs, it might be a while before Mandrae noticed anything amiss.

But their oldest kids are way older than poor Andrea's kids ever were. We can hope 🌈 that the oldest few would be able to take Karissa down before she got all eleven.

Fuck the Lotts, fuck Christians, fuck fundies, fuck these grifters, fuck them for how they treat their kids.
Many Christians don't do this stuff, they treat their kids well and they do care about them. Unfortunately it seems to be the hyperreligious think that 'living the Christian life' means homesteading, voting Republican and dressing up and living like one is some exspy from Leave It To Beaver and Little House On The Prairie.

It gives non-Christians very skewed ideas of what Christianity and Christians are really like, and makes them stand out for all of the wrong reasons, not the right Godly ones that really matter.

Jill and Derick were there. Jill wasn’t a bridesmaid but she did attend (probably Boob’s influence as to who the bridesmaids were if he was helping to pay for this).

Even though the children are smiling in this photo, there's something about the haunted weariness in their eyes that I find deeply unsettling. They look exhausted.

Everything else aside, whenever this family is discussed, I notice how poorly cared for the girls' hair is. The hair of African, Caribbean, and African-American people is much more fragile and easily damaged than that of other races, and it requires different care. It has lower tensile strength and is particularly prone to dryness, which further contributes to breakage.

In this photo, one can see how those tight ponytails are causing breakage of the hair around the anterior hairline and traction alopecia, or hair loss caused by constant tension on the scalp. It's much more common in people of African descent, and it can become permanent if not addressed promptly.

I find it telling that Karissa, who strikes me as a rather superficial and vain individual, doesn't seem to notice that her daughters' hair doesn't look healthy. I don't know how much contact they have with Mandrae's family, but surely his mother or sisters could show the girls how to take care of their hair and maybe recommend some products. Somehow, I doubt Karissa would go for that, though. I actually think their children are quite beautiful, and I wonder if that's a problem in Karissa's mind. I could see her trying to ignore the kids' more "exotic" features.

I think it’s been established that Karissa is pretty racist, so not surprising that she has not learned to care for her children’s hair.

The only person who attends to the children's hair properly is Karissa's mother. You can always tell when Karissa's mom has come for a visit, because each child is suddenly sporting an appropriate, curl nourished hair style.

I don't know where the fuck Mandrae's family is or why they ignore these clearly neglected eleven children, but the only person who rescues these kids time and again is Karissa's mom - up to and including rescuing their natural hair.

It was Karissa's mom who told Karissa to take her unconscious and limp daughter to the ER when Anthym was near death from sepsis. Karissa and Mandrae had dragged their unconscious and fever ridden - and at the time, youngest - child to a basketball game. If her grandmother hadn't intervened, child #9 would have died before those two child abusers so much as looked her way.

Grandma has to feel like a guinea pig owner who has to keep stopping them from eating their babies, or sitting on them.

Mandrae DOES work outside the home. I believe he works at a car dealership? He also coaches basketball. I'd wager he's out of the house more often than he's in it.

Karissa is reporting hip pain and a prolapse now.

Allow me to briefly sperg about Karissa, Mandrae, and the most boomer of all social media sites.

A family photo of Karissa and Mandrae popped up on my Facebook feed a couple of days ago as one of those weird inspirational traditional family posts. No names or social media handles or anything, just a picture of them and all their kids and some trite bullshit caption. It had a ton of comments so curiosity got the better of me and I looked, but they were almost all absolutely fawning over them and talking about how blessed she is and how much love their house must hold (plus the obligatory "get off of her!" shit). There were a few comments towards the bottom telling people who they actually are and how horribly the kids are treated, including details about the little girl's unchanged diaper, but they were SWARMED with women telling them to stop "hating", I'm talking 50+ replies to each single comment saying how much these people suck. No one except the people criticizing seemed to have any clue who they are, they were just blindly defending a "beautiful family".

Almost everyone in the thread was a black woman. Makes me wonder the depths to which Karissa uses her mixed race family to deflect criticism - she's a white woman but her kids are pretty unmistakably mixed and Mandrae is black as hell. Idk if she's ever outright used it to get away with shit as I'm not totally up on her lore but that kind of behavior seems up her alley.
