Interesting. Is this Grandma Duggar or Michelle's mom? Jim Bob revered his mother.

While this is definitely an improvement for them, I do feel sorry for poor Ivy, who will likely still have to share a room with Baby Fern (unless they put Fern in the Master bedroom). Her brothers will get to sleep through the night and she will not. Get used to it now, Ivy, you don't know it now but you're two years away from motherhood.

Josh gets what Josh wants. A childhood friend (not Justin from I Pray... The tik tok guy) talked about how even when the Duggars were living in that tiny shit hole provided by the church, Josh had an incredible computer setup. Meanwhile, he also told a story about how once, one of the babies peed all over the couch and when the kid was taken away, Jessa promptly say in the urine. When Friend Guy asked her if she knew there was pee there, she said, "Yeah, that's why I sat in it. I'm only allowed to change clothes when they get really dirty."

So that's how resources work in Duggar land. Always have, always will.

The baby NEVER shows any sign of bonding with Karissa, and once she realized that, she probably started discarding the baby to the point we get her in the hospital from neglect

Some mothers are just unable to form proper bonds with their babies. The maternal spark just isn't there. I very much see Karissa as that type of woman.

Jim boobs mother, the one that "accidentally" drowned in her own back yard pool.

JimBoob apparently completely cut off his sister, Amy kings mom, because apparently Gma should not have been alone or something and that's when she fell into her pool and drowned.

That story of Jessa is actually heartbreaking. Turpin vibes, *shudder*

What selfish fucked up parents she has. All while Prince Josh gets whatever his entitled ass wanted growing up, and prolly in prison too.

Imagine wasting all those opportunities and resources on a pedophile when one bullet is all you need.
His parents' biggest failure was not getting him access to intensive, inpatient, secular, evidenced based psychiatric treatment for youth sexual offenders. And of course, not allowing him access to victims like by sharing rooms/beds.
I have never been able to figure out what the science says about if pedophilia is treatable in any way so far. I can't seem to find an easy consensus like on vaccines. But when he was a minor his brain was more malleable and maybe would have had a higher chance of being corrected with REAL treatment. @Secret Asshole what's your expert opinion summed up?
As it stands now, he is irredeemable and modern society is less for not disposing of people like him.

Yeah, from what I heard, early intervention for a lot of things, including juvenile sex offenders, is definitely key and they are often less likely to reoffend than their adult counterparts with proper treatment. It is a shame that most programs of intervention for pedophiles are more reactive rather than proactive where they have to act out in order for them to get help and by that time it is too late.

Pedophilia can never be cured nor really treated. This is the consensus of FBI Behavioral Science agents, who've come across many pedophiles in their careers. They say the only option for pedophiles is lifelong incarceration (or a bullet to the head), because the probability of them offending again is so high. It's not a mental illness, because pedophiles are extremely aware that their behavior is looked as immoral and illegal in society, yet that does not deter them from acting out on their compulsion, and they also have no remorse for what they do to their victims.

As to the causes of pedophilia, that is still unknown. People used to think pedophiles had to have been molested themselves, and pedophiles will certainly try to say this, but in most cases, it's just a lie pedophiles use to try to garner sympathy from people. Majority of pedophiles were not sexually abused when they were children.

I don't want to go into a huge sperg, but while some pedophiles certainly grew up in fucked up households, there's plenty of pedophiles who didn't.

I take it the Vista one the Holts recommended is not considered "proactive" and is only available for children going through the court system for improper touching etc?

I don't know all the science on this either, but I have known ppl that claim they were raped, could rape each other, in juvie and that by sending your kid to a "childhood pedo anonymous" group therapy session that then the kids are exposed to worse kids and can then learn how to do pedo crimes better.

I can see why the Duggars would not want their kid exposed to that,... But I am not sympathizing for their actions of basically doing nothing, covering it up, rewarding him with family pool parties at their hideout with other young kids in the family to leer over and play with him, the lone adult, in the pool, and public forgiveness, for Jesus

Those four months Josh was gone for being a teen pedo were probably the best part of the other duglets childhoods

Once knew a therapist that worked with pedophiles that spoke in a class I was taking and he said a lot of them he worked with were autistic both diagnosed and undiagnosed. Which, I guess if you have a lower mental age than your chronological age, you would go for younger children and teens, especially if you have childish interests that a lot of kids are into like Pokemon and stuff.

It's fairly likely that the science around pedophilia will always be shoddy due to a lack of data. After all, the amount of people willing to volunteer the fact that they are sexually attracted to children is, uh, very small.

That being said, the best preventative stuff we've been able to find is early treatment + isolation. (I don't set much stock by groups like "Virtuous Pedophiles" given that there is no way to prove that they're not completely full of shit)

Plus theres also the question of whether Josh is even a TRUE and HONEST pedophile who gets off on the child aspect or just a sexual sadist who gets of primarily on hurting someone more vulnerable. If the account of the hooker he allegedly violently raped is to believed I'd say theres a good chance he's actually more the latter.

Regardless I feel like theres some kinda data somewhere that suggests that while rehabilitation of sex offenders is generally unsuccessful, minors have more success than adult offenders. Boob and Meech shot down the only possible chance at steering their golden boy away from becoming a monster by rejecting any actual treatment program when he was a teen.

It can be both. Apparently there are a number of pedos who are attracted to adults as well.

If only Rim Job and Meech had the same attitude about pedophilia and incest that they do about pre-marital sex, masturbation, being gay, and women wearing pants.

The fact Josh specifically searched out porn for minors under 12, shows he's a pedophile, ignoring the DD video. So yes, he's both a sadist and a pedophile. The two usually go hand in hand.

Sadism is a lot easier to manage than pedophilia, too. There are plenty of garden variety sadists who handle that shit through the BDSM community in a consensual environment with people who like pain/humiliation in a controlled setting.

Try telling that to the Duggars and watch their heads explode. It's almost like not demonizing every aspect of sexuality and exploring it beyond the tightest of confines can help or something.

Honestly, you can deal with sadism in private with your spouse in a reasonable manner, so that's less of a problem than him being a pedophile (which makes the sadism that much worse, since who the fuck is going to admit they like seeing children in pain while being raped). Basically, this nigger should have been instituionalized when he was a child and commited his first offenses, and barring that, got a bullet to the brain. Pedophiles are basically untreatable oustide of massive sedation/libido curbing medicines, institutionalization or death. It's one of the few addictions that I am certain can't be treated. The fact that the JimNog and his wife covered up for their son (along with the fucking sherriff and police force) just shows me that this family is corrupt to its core.

Cops these days eh? It must be hard to be a fundie and a lawyer, so which side does Derick fall on exactly?

Also this:

(:politisperg:Fun fact: apparently there was less crime and shootings and less shootings on civilians by police when W was in office because that's when police unions got the most money in taxes to be able to train their officers more, so I'm always personalyreally curious how conservative groups align or not align with LE .:politisperg:

He claims that the records being made public was what motivated him to go to law school, press x to doubt as he was apparently talking about it when he was a mascot in college. I suspect before he fell out with them that JimBoob paid his student loans for his undergrad. how else could he attend lawschool without a working wife to support him? He didn't make enough doing delivery or Uber eats or whatever to feed a wife and kids. Not without taking out maximum loans for lawschool. I don't recall him graduating with honors. I don't see Derick still having bachelor degree loans and then taking more, likely more than double (is tuition public? Did he get scholarships?) to finish his JD.

Rimjob wasn't particularly...publically supportive of it, you'd think he'd want a lawyer in the family, it would sure help his fundie grifts.

Maybe he didn't want to be compared with the Westboro Baptist Church legacy of family lawyers. (But the WBC actually *won* cases)

What most ppl don't understand is that doctors, veterinarians, and lawyers often graduate with a quarter of a million dollars in student debt on average, (unless that has changed in the last ten yrs?)

Is he likely to actually practice in financial or fraud cases since he's an accountant? I just don't see him going into civil rights for several reasons but I won't sperg on that yet anyways. (The real money is starting his own firm but that's not something that would happen quickly, and I often see the wife double as the office manager or paralegal to really make that happen, maybe Jill could go to Russell's LDS paralegal program, I hear it's pretty easy;)

I remember him getting alll defensive online over their "mission" to south America and all the grift that happened with that, so it makes sense to me that he would be as slimy as Boob. He doesn't make too many inflammatory public comments or social media posts much anymore.for me to poop on. So I guess the world is his oyster.

So, I cannot verify all of this but it's highly likely that Derick was able to pay for college well enough. Here is his (now retired) mother's LinkedIn.

Screenshot_20220211-104708.png

According to Glass Door, she was making a minimum of 97K a year for nearly two decades and considering that she was there for so long and she was given multiple posts and had a side business, she was almost certainly making well into six figures for a long period of time, and that is just her income.

Screenshot_20220211-104801-612.png

So Derick probably had more than enough for school (the Dillard are Fundies/Fundie Lite, but are not Quiverfull cultists, so she had a successful career and Derick only has one sibling. And if he excelled academically he may have also had scholarships). The reason he probably sought out Jim Bob's help with the medical bills is by the time that Israel was born, his mother was battling Stage 4 Hodgekins Lymphoma. I wouldn't be surprised if his mom also helped him get the accounting job he had at Wal-Mart for a while.

(Btw, if you ever want to go down a rabbit hole, his mother's life is fucking crazy. Adopted as a baby, lost one relative and guardian after another, got her master's degree, became a Wal Mart exec, turned to evangelical Christianity, got a stage 4 lymphoma diagnosis right as her son began a reality TV career. I would watch a whole Netflix mini series on this woman, ISTG. Too bad if her life was ever dramatized on screen it would probably be put in the hands of the hacks over at Pure Flix or another of those shitty Christian studios who refuse to learn how to make movies properly amidst all the preaching)

Derick has definitely made an ass of himself on multiple occasions, but I don't think he is Jim Bob level sleaze.

I am sure he is genuinely pissed about what has happened, but I do agree that he is at the very least stretching the truth on his law ambitions. He has said before he wanted to go into law school to help the Pro-Life movement (it's possible he counts that as 'civil rights' and that is definitely what he will say if anyone challenges him on this) and it has been something he's wanted for a while. He's a pretty reactionary and impulsive person (hence his various SM rants but most of them are directed at JB so I am not complaining), so it's almost certain he's going to exhaust what goodwill he has gained post trial with this latest tantrum. I understand his anger but his record of lacking self control makes me really wonder what kind of career he'd have in a courtroom if he intends on being a trial lawyer. You have to keep a cool head in front of a judge.

Edit because Holy Speak of the Devil, Batman:

I do believe Derick at least partially on this because I remember the interview and the body language of Jill vs everyone else is VERY telling. While Jessa was dismissive, Jill looked near tears and is the only one who mentioned anything about there being, you know, victims. (Other than Poor Prince Joshie who just made an UwU mistake out of UwU curiousity about girls)

Thank you, this is all very informational and informative

I do like that JimBoob basically married off his daughter to a rich man

Where's our legal kiwis to explain to us the dropped lawsuit and whether Derick running his mouth criticizing evil cops is good for his cred as a lawyer?

I mean, the Duggar girls were clearly lying to downplay what Josh did, so of course Jill would be uncomfortable , lying on national TV...

Was it Jill that did the most lying?

No, it was Jessa who took charge and tried to brush it off as "a quick feel" he did because "he was a little too curious about girls." Jill said very little.

Pretty sure she was pregnant at the time too.

Ugh, proof Boob is selfish and doesn't really care about kids unless they are good little soldiers in his fifedom, for jeezus

Lots of people confused about why the judge (same one as Josh's pizza conviction, interestingly) admits that the records should not have been released but then also saying the authorities are immune from prosecution, and they weren't hurt enough under the law to get money.

The judge agreed that emotional distress certainly occurred, but “not to the severe degree necessary to satisfy the tort.”

A closer look: Duggar sisters lawsuit dismissal details
C.C. McCandless

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The abrupt dismissal of the Duggar sisters’ invasion of privacy lawsuit just two days before a scheduled settlement conference brought up several questions, but the court’s 20 page ruling shed some light on many specifics of the decision and provided insight into background details related to the case.

Judge Timothy L. Brooks of the Western District of Arkansas Federal Court in Fayetteville issued the ruling, as he has presided over this case. He was also the judge for the trial of the plaintiffs’ brother, Joshua Duggar, who was convicted on a pair of child pornography charges in December 2021.

Northwest Arkansas’ Trial of the Century – a look back at Josh Duggar’s case and conviction
The February 9 Court Memorandum Opinion and Order began with the judge noting that the defendants filed two separate motions seeking Summary Judgment, which a law dictionary defines as “a judgment entered by a court for one party and against another party without a full trial.”

The two motions covered all of the defendants remaining in the lawsuit: Washington County and Rick Hoyt in the first, and the City of Springdale, Kathy O’Kelley and Ernest Cate in the second.

On the first page of the document, the judge noted that both motions were granted. The court would go on to explain the reasoning behind granting the motions, but first, it provided nearly ten pages of background information about the case.

That background began with an explanation of the “material facts relevant to the issues” regarding the summary judgment. The Court noted that most of these facts were “undisputed by the parties,” but a footnote clarifies this statement by explaining that back-and-forth statements about the nuances of the facts were made by both parties, an endeavor that the judge deemed “exceedingly tiresome and of little assistance to the Court.”

Judge dismisses Duggar sisters lawsuit
The background information in the ruling went all the way back to when the plaintiffs were children and noted that now “they are adult sisters who hail from a very large, religious family.”

It also detailed the sexual abuse the plaintiffs were subjected to by their brother, Joshua. The filing stated that their parents “discovered the abuse but did not report it to the police or any state agency,” and that “instead, they decided to keep it a secret.”

The ruling goes on, explaining that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, the parents of Joshua and the plaintiffs, went on to consult with “their closest friends,” Jim and Bobye Holt, regarding the sexual assaults. It goes on to explain that, in 2003, the Holt’s daughter, Kaeleigh “wrote a summary of what she had heard from her parents about the abuse in a letter.” The letter was never mailed, but was placed in a book and left on a bookshelf.

The filing states that “there the secret remained until 2006 when Kaeleigh loaned the book to a friend and fellow church member.” This friend found the letter and shared it with her parents. The court ruling then states “from that point on, the Duggars’ family secret spread by word of mouth to the other members of their close-knit church community.”

On December 7, 2006, the Arkansas Department of Human Services Hotline “received two tips that Joshua had molested his sisters.” One was from an anonymous caller, and the other came from Oprah Winfrey’s studio, where the Duggars were set to appear on her TV show.

The deep dive into the background of the case went on to describe the police investigations and interviews that resulted from those tips, as well as specifics about the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests that led to In Touch Weekly magazine receiving information about the plaintiffs.

An artist’s rendering of Judge Timothy L. Brooks
The document noted that both the city of Springdale and Washington County “lost track” of the FOIA requests. “Under the Arkansas FOIA, governmental agencies typically have three business days to respond to a request,” the court explained.

Defendant Ernest Cate, Springdale’s City Attorney, “agreed the police report should be released, provided that the names of the juvenile victims were redacted.” He also “proceeded that afternoon to obtain as much legal advice…as was possible on the FOIA Request.” That included consulting the juvenile prosecutor, whose opinion was that the report should be released.

Cate and Chief O’Kelley ultimately “reviewed and redacted the report to make sure the names and ages of all the minors and Joshua had been removed.” The court quoted the men as saying that they “discuss[ed] that we would prefer to over-redact, rather than under-redact” the police report.

The Court noted that “the Springdale Police Report was redacted more heavily and more carefully than the Washington County Incident Report.” The latter left one victim’s age unredacted, as well as disclosing Josh Duggar’s name once. The plaintiffs were also referred to as Joshua’s sisters and “the girls in the family.”

The Springdale Police report did not include those details, but the court’s ruling found that a reader could “have discerned the following information” about the victims:

they were sexually abused on multiple different occasions over the course of a year
the abuse took place in the Duggar home
the perpetrator of the abuse was Mr. and Mrs. Duggar’s child, who lived in the home; and
the victims of the abuse were Mr. and Mrs. Duggar’s children, who also lived in the home
After the explanation of the case’s background and the comparison of the two redacted reports that were released, the court’s ruling went on to explain the Legal Standard at play in granting a summary judgment. The judge cited a specific rule of Civil Procedure, noting that such a judgment happens when “there is no genuine dispute as to any material fact,” which is something he previously noted was the case here.

The plaintiffs’ case rested on three specific aspects:

Invasion of Privacy (Intrusion upon Seclusion)
Invasion of Privacy (Public Disclosure of Private Fact)
Outrage
The remainder of the ruling addressed these points and explained exactly what the plaintiffs were required to prove and establish for each one.

The first Invasion of Privacy item had five requirements, and the ruling stated that “the record presents questions of fact for the jury as to four of the five elements.” Additionally, the document stated that “plaintiffs have not presented any direct proof or reasonable interference that would place the second element of the tort in dispute, and for this reason, the entire claim must be dismissed.”

That element requires proof that the defendants lacked the legal authority to commit “the intrusive act” at the heart of the lawsuit. The judge stated that he did not believe that the defendants engaged in conduct beyond the boundaries of their authority, and, in fact, that “all reasonable inferences point to the opposite conclusion.”

Although profoundly wrong about the law, Defendants were motivated by a belief that they were legally obligated to release these reports, and to do so quickly…In other words, they worried exclusively about compliance with one part of the FOIA and failed to investigate the other parts (and other relevant state law).

Judge Timothy L. Brooks, in his ruling dismissing the Duggar sisters’ lawsuit
The judge acknowledged that the plaintiffs had “met their evidentiary burden to survive summary judgment,” but that the case was still subject to dismissal because the defendants had statutory immunity.

He cited a State Supreme Court ruling that provides state actors “with immunity from civil liability for negligent acts, but not for intentional torts.” He noted that all relevant facts pointed toward “Defendants’ negligence—or perhaps recklessness,” but not intent.

It is unclear why this immunity was not addressed by the court sooner in relation to this part of the lawsuit.

For the final point of the lawsuit, Outrage, the court outlined four elements that needed to be met. In the first, the judge ruled that there was no evidence that the defendants “intended to inflict emotional distress.” He added that the defendants were attempting to conceal the plaintiffs’ identities, not reveal them, by redacting their names from the police reports.

The second element required proof that the defendants’ conduct was “extreme and outrageous,” and the court found that the plaintiffs failed to present evidence of this as well.

The final element required proof of emotional distress caused by the defendants that “was so severe that no reasonable person could be expected to endure it.” The judge agreed that emotional distress certainly occurred, but “not to the severe degree necessary to satisfy the tort.”

Due to those decisions by the court on each specific aspect, the two motions for summary judgment in the case were granted and the lawsuit was “dismissed with prejudice.”

A case dismissed with prejudice is generally closed and cannot be brought back to court.

One of the plaintiffs issued a statement expressing her disappointment with the ruling.
