Actually, the maximum is 20 years. He was charged with two counts- Count A (lesser) and Count B (greater). Count B actually encompasses Count A. So, when the jury ruled "guilty" on Count B, Count A became irrelevant. Thus, he has a minimum, mandatory 5 years, and a maximum of 20 years (pending any additional circumstances that influence sentencing).
What we know, based on Anna's own statements, is that she was told about Josh's "childhood mistakes". Now...what the fuck does that actually mean? My understanding is that she was told, verbatim, that "Josh had a little trouble with improper touching and was really curious about the opposite sex." That's a whole helluva lot different than, "Josh finger-raped his five year old sister while he read her a bible story and penned another sister against a washing machine to finger her ass". (The first is from Holt's testimony. The second is from the CPS report in 2006) So, as for his sisters....I'd argue she was pretty gas lit. She only knew what Jim Bob and her father told her. And, since her dad worked with prisoners, I'm not really surprised she was asked to take on someone with damage.... it was their family ministry and Josh was seen as an extension of that ministry.
When Ashley Madison broke and the woman came forward with her lawsuit (in which, let's not forget, she described Josh throwing her around and forcing her to perform "violent oral sex"), Anna was asked what she knew about Josh's prior allegations. She responded that Josh had told her "everything". But, did he? They (Anna and Josh) didn't work there shit out. Jim Bob had Josh make a public statement and then they sent him to an IBLP related "recovery center" near Chicago. The rules didn't really include confession to his wife or accountability or marriage counselling. It was just more manual labor, solitude, and church attendance. No qualified counsellors.
What's interesting, and why I think Anna found out something we still don't know about, is that Covenant Eyes was installed on Josh's shit in 2013 (per court testimony). I'm sorry... what? The inTouch story about his sisters didn't pop in mainstream media until 2015. The Ashley Madison shit was after that. THIS case was 2019. So...what did she know in 2013 or what happened in 2013? What was the catalyst that made her decide they needed to have that level of accountability with his online activities? Ironically, 2013 is when they moved to D.C. and he went to work for FRC.
I have a very difficult time believing that she didn't know what his kinks were. I think she probably suspected he was up to no good or caught him...but, what would she even do with that? Clearly, her family was rationalizing his behavior and telling her her job was to stay married no matter what.
