Ick, I wish I didn't learn that getting sepsis from dirty diapers was even possible. Like, geez, wouldn't the smell or the baby crying due to discomfort bother her enough at that point to want to change it?

OMG kiwis Jessa is getting porn spammed LOLOL! And on the posts ABOUT DADDYS HOUSE HE BOUGHT HER BAHAHAHA!!!!

Edit: OMG IT'S BECAUSE SHE BOUGHT BOTS TO COMMENT AND SAY NICE THINGS!!!

Another Duggar is hit with scandal: Josh's sister Jessa is accused of buying fake social media followers after her latest YouTube video was flooded with comments from PORN accounts

I'm gonna work on getting some screenshots , it's pretty epic

Girls can develop yeast infections the same way as well. If the kid has sensitive skin and is essentially allergic to the diaper brand that's being used it can exacerbate rashes and make infections more likely to occur as well.

Also, if a child is used to sitting in their filth and having a diaper rash, they're less likely to express discomfort (and are hella difficult to potty train because the discomfort is normal/baseline to them). It's heartbreaking when you go to change a child's diaper cause their parents asked you to watch them and discover a horrifying rash that they have little to no reaction to.

Yeah another baby is the last thing she needs if she can't even keep her youngest changed to the point she gets a UTI and almost dies of sepsis. The fuck.

I know CPS will just shit itself and do nothing, but I feel like a baby being left in dirty diapers long enough to get a UTI that goes septic is grounds for investigation at least.
So there are a few different camps and flavors of religious conservative Christians. I would guess Jana is probably making friends with other Christian singles who aren't immediately marriage oriented, who love God, but also love God's people. Part of loving His people is believing in the spirit of His message rather than a particular version of the Bible. It absolutely is a big deal for her to look at other versions, and probably means she's talking to and making friends with people who have different views. This is great.

I hope she's leaning toward going on a legitimate mission. Mercy Ships are ALWAYS looking for housekeepers, servers, and people with her skillsets. (Mercy Ships is a program that gives medical care, particularly surgical intervention, to disadvantaged people.) It also has a broad group of people, including some non-Christians. I think it would be amazing for her, given the Duggar women's interest in medicine they never acted on.
Thoughts on whether or not Boob is raging about her posting non-KJV? Most of the people I know with fundie parents have told me they were anal about KJV only.

Didn't Jana also want to be a nurse at some point but JB shot it down?

I did not grow up reading the KJV and none of my family uses it. I sincerely doubt Boob would be dumb enough to challenge whether or not my Bible of choice is godly enough, simply because he doesn't know it well enough. (I use the Martin Luther because I grew up with it and it's a personal preference.)

The KJV obsession is largely fueled by ignorant people absorbed in biblical pageantry. I think Jim Bob is aware of this and I don't think he really cares about God that much. That's not a personal attack. For guys like him, it's about the social constructs created by the church, which admittedly aren't always bad. I have never seen anything to suggest Jim Bob or Meech have hearts that are on fire for Jesus. They are not people who look and think, "God has lifted me up with His righteous hand. How can I repay this debt to the world?"

You can't. You can only spend the rest of your life trying to pay off a debt by loving others and using what you've been given to try to do one iota of what's been done for you.

Jana has a lot in life: She gets to take care of JB and Meech when they're old. Whether she marries or reads other bibles doesn't matter. If he wasn't okay with that, that post wouldn't have happened.

It might have also been a social signal for someone that Jana is quite the little biblical scholar if they're trying to catch someone's attention. JB may have put her up to it.

As for the nurse thing, I'm not sure, but I don't think Jana would fare well in school. She always struck me as being one of the less bright ones.

Karissa also had a daughter break her leg/knee from a trampoline accident while the youngest was in the hospital.

I'm unsure if this was mentioned, but Karissa also fasted for 11 days while she knew she was pregnant in order to get God to heal the one in the hospital.

Lol, as someone who participates in biblical fasting, Karissa did not abstain from food for 11 days. She might have participated in a Daniel type fast where she only ate unseasoned, bland food, but three to five days without eating will absolutely wipe you out if you're just resting and praying. She wouldn't have the strength to get out of bed, and she almost certainly would induce a miscarriage from lack of nutrients during early development if she didn't eat for 11 days.

The Collins family is just nightmare fuel. How can this crazy bitch get pregnant any time she wants and then responsible and loving couples can’t even get one baby. I know it’s just a shitty fact of life but it sucks

It's actually very important because the Duggars (and many other fundamentalists, including Jill Rodrigues and other IFB/IBLP types) think that the King James version is the only "God-breathed" translation. They don't believe that any other translations are the True and Honest, inerrant word of God. Later translations, by their logic, are corrupted by man's influence. The KJV-only thing is one of the main points on which fundamentalist Baptists differ from their normal, mainline Protestant counterparts. Jill Rodrigues actually posted proudly about her eldest son, Timothy, having dropped out of Bible "college" because one of his "professors" suggested other translations were also legitimate and the KJV need not be the only Bible that "real Christians" read.

It is actually a HUGE deal for Jana to openly admit to having read another translation, especially while living under Jim Bob's headship.

This is actually the first hope I've felt for Jana in years. I cannot overemphasize how significant this is. It is possibly a bigger deal than Jill drinking a glass of wine with dinner or dancing at a church Christmas celebration.

Edited to tag @LonesomeDud, who is as close to an authority the Farms has on matters like this (and nice to us unsaved heathens about it, to boot). What say you, friend? Is this as big a thing as I think?

Edited again to say that I'm pretty sure the English Standard Version is also a word-for-word literal translation, so it's not like she's straying too far afield, but it's still a big deal.
To answer your question, Coming from a Presbyterian denomination we mainly use the ESV Bible in our church services. Its a literal word for word translation of the bible , nothing is really changes content wise just more modern English for example, would be "Thou shall not kill, to a little more modern "you shall not kill". And yes the IFBs/and other KJV onlyist get big mad about the ESV (as well as anything else that is seen as Calvinist ) and can easily give a autisticly long sermon hating the ESV.

The best part is that "proves" their beliefs, as far as they're concerned. God blessed them with fertility for being so righteous, hence they are good parents. Even if they murder their kids, I guess.

Edit to add:

Karissa Collins got a lavish birthday party for her 38th! Reminder that for the kids, she "doesn't do birthdays", aside from Instagram photos. Sometimes the boys get a dessert with dinner. And she got a peloton! Which is great for a woman who fasts while pregnant and has a house full of kids who are constantly getting injured.

Wait, so only the boys get a desert on their birthday? The fuck, why? Is she an ana-chan inflicting her bullshit on her daughters or something?

Assuming the dad just shits himself and does nothing while his wife is batshit crazy and abuses their kids ala JillRod and Krissy Klein.

I’m starting to think karissa’s amount of crazy might be suitable for her own thread, but that’s just me wanting to find a less faggoty place to keep track of her for the sake of her poor kids. Reddit makes me want to crawl into a hole in the dirt and die of cringe from the amount of smug women who think that virtue signaling works against people who are in a cult.

I've been reading through the Rod Thread, and I've seen them brought up here, but is there a Turpin thread? Or a good, long summary or rabbit hole?

I was fascinated by the case of those poor kids and didn't know they were fundies.

I don't know if there's a Turpin thread or not, but it doesn't seem possible to fall into a rabbit hole with them. They were so reclusive for so long, and family and former neighbors didn't know what was going on (except they kinda did and opted to not report them), they didn't have friends and didn't belong to or visit any church. There's not too much background info beyond wikipedia.

They married when she was 16, they claimed to be Pentecostal, but didn't go to church it almost seems like it was a phase... since they dabbled in swinging and had bizarre consumer habits.

Aside from wikipedia, really the best, most comprehensive resource is the Diane Sawyer 20/20 interview. Most of it is on youtube, the last two parts aren't on it or weren't on it when I watched. You can find it on free streaming services, if you need a link, DM me because I don't know the policy here about linking to streaming sites. It was a really good interview, few to no parts were spared.

60 minutes Australia usually does an excellent job covering just about anything. I haven't watched this, but it might be interesting.

Other than that are specials that ran after the arrests, and/or during the trial, but not the discussion with the two girls. You can find the specials on youtube too, but given the sparse info, If you've seen one, you've seen them all. You can also watch two if the turpin kids giving victim impact statements during sentencing.

Basically, the story starts and stops in a definitive way. So it's not really thread worthy at this point. Maybe some of the kids will eventually take to social media to discuss their trauma, or just show how they're living their life after trauma. (hopefully none of them do this, unless they feel like it's advocacy, because they've been harmed, exploited and othered for their whole lives) Unfortunately, their trauma isn't over, because of bullshit with the victims fund and the person appointed to oversee their transition into society an disburse the money. Though that is part of the 20/20 interview, too. If people are interested, we can discuss them here, in fact, maybe the title should be changed to quiverfull movement and fundamentalist lolcows. The only discussion I'd be interested in going forward is keeping track of how the district will rectify their wrongs, disburse the money and get the young turpin kids placed with abusive families out of those situations. Get the older kids some life training and give them money that was in a trust fund, so they don't have to live in Watts. As interested as I am, I haven't followed up on that, so if someone else does and posts it, I'd love to read it. But I think that's really where the story ends.

I followed the Turpin trail and every rabbit hole I could find. I think I've mentioned LAHenna was the YouTuber that covered actual Turpin rabbit hole stuff, Louise's batshit crazy SISTERS one that goes on manic Jesus preachy tirades cuz she likens herself sometimes of preacher? It's like classic bpd crazy eyed women of west Virginia, need I say more?

Idk if search here is still fucked but I've commented on them and what I all knew before. There's also the "pastor brother" to David and there was some speculation that he adopted some of the special needs kids cuz the young ones are all mildly or mostly retarded from the lifelong malnourishment. But he hasn't spoken to the media since the kids were found, and I doubt he adopted any.

Most places I see online with the Turpin story don't have the full story. Def a weird fuckin family, well the Louise family in particular. David's seemed normal, if not nerdy.

Lately the big story was Real Estate Agent and former guardian ad libem Vanessa Espinoza basically stealing the half million that was donated to the turpin kids. Im working on digging up as much dirt on their "guardian" but I had the wrong vegan body builder (no kidding)

The adult kids attorney ,Jack Osborne, is fucking sussy to me. Vanessa worked for him and he pushed to get her placed as their guardian, and that he's been unhelpful when the kids (they're not kids, they're Grown!) ask him questions or for help. Hestrin, the prosecutor, wants to be helpful but of course, he's a prosecutor, his job is basically done here. Don't even get me started on how inept prosecutors are in general... But it's Cali, they prolly have tons of inept Bingers there

Here is the latest on the judge appointed to investigate and figure out who in Cali CPS is responsible for the kids money being fucking gone.

Bets on when we get an "we did an investigation of ourselves and found we did nothing wrong" statement

Idk what prison reform means even but some people fucking deserve it .
haven't checked up on Jennifer's rapist either, I hope he got prison for anal raping her, or maybe he just got deported back to Mex? I only know this bc LAHenna covered it

I was working on a Turpin post here (cuz I can def do one better here than the shitty crime websites, plus all the weird religion stuff that we love here!) but I need a Lil moar time
(I won't have a good net connection for another week. All my shit gets eaten or connection is too low so it's been hard to hang out here)

Edited to add cuz I always forget things: Currently the foster home that had I think 9 of the little Turpins are trialing soon for abuse charges on all 9 of their foster kids . I think they are split into 3 foster families now. It looks like the ones coming up on 18 are gonna be tarded/in care for life, so maybe this has something to do with the hullabaloo about the Turpins kids $ too

I mean, we all know she is almost definitely a friend of Ana's. However I am guessing the reason the boys get more may also be the same reason that the boys get ice cream parties and the girls get Quran readings at Al Qaeda gatherings.

Bates show has been cancelled during filming. Is it just that the network is done with "non-scripted" tv? or the Amazon IBLP docu? Or a good ol fashiones scandal?

Josh has filed a 75page "motion to acquittal" and wants the judge to either grant a new trial or retroactively aquit him by throwing out the guilty verdict. 🤔 Still is trying to blame it on employees.

Interesting enough, sex offender and chomos Caleb Williams emailed the DOJ that oopsie, he was actually at the lot after checking his records, and "found more passwords" and those emails were not turned over at trial.

“Williams had refused to engage in any meaningful discussions with the defense in advance of trial.” Was there a rift in fundie families?

Any legalfagkiwis know if he's got a leg to stand on?

Josh Duggar defense team files motion for acquittal or new trial
C.C. McCandless
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — On January 19, the day of the deadline for post-trial motions after Josh Duggar’s conviction on two child pornography charges, his defense team filed documents with the court requesting a judgment of acquittal or a new trial.

The motion, signed by lead defense attorney Justin Gelfand, is over 75 pages long, including supporting documents. The defense asks for an acquittal pursuant to Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 29(c), as well as alternatively asking for a new trial if that first motion is declined.

The defense quotes the rule in question early in their filing:

‘If the jury has returned a guilty verdict, the court may set aside the verdict and enter an acquittal,’ where, as here, ‘the evidence, viewed in the light most favorable to the government, is such that a reasonably minded jury must have a reasonable doubt as to the existence of any of the essential elements of the crime charged,’ this ‘Court must grant a Rule 29 motion for judgment of acquittal.

Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 29(c), quoted in Josh Duggar defense’s motion

The motion explains the rule in more depth, noting elements regarding what crime was charged in the indictment and what the elements of that crime are.

“The evidence elicited at trial does not support a conviction on either count — even in the light most favorable to the Government,” the motion claims. “The Government failed to adduce any evidence that Duggar ‘knew that the visual depictions were of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct.'”

The motion continues by addressing video files submitted as evidence, and states that “the jury had no evidence that Duggar personally viewed any specific portion of any of the files allegedly found on the computer.” The defense requested an acquittal on both counts based on this.

In the alternative portion of the filing, the defense notes that “the jury’s verdict may be overturned if ‘the evidence weighs heavily enough against the verdict such that a miscarriage of justice may have occurred.'”

It goes on to state that “‘The Court’s broad discretion empowers it to grant relief based not only on the sufficiency of the evidence at trial but on any other circumstance that might render the trial ‘essentially unfair,’ including trial errors.'”

The defense asks the court to grant Duggar a new trial due to the prosecution “failing to timely disclose exculpatory evidence,” and claims that the government violated multiple rules of procedure and evidence by failing to turn over exhibits created by expert witness James Fottrell in advance of the trial.

The motion explains that the “exculpatory evidence” pertains to Caleb Williams, a
former employee of Duggar’s at his car lot. The motion calls Williams “an individual who had access to the car lot and the HP desktop computer during certain relevant time periods,” and they add that “law enforcement had failed to meaningfully investigate the possibility that anyone other than Duggar may have committed the crimes charged.”

Gelfand brought up this possibility during the trial, stating his belief that investigators were “star-struck” by Duggar and did not sufficiently investigate the possibility of someone else having committed the crimes. The prosecution interviewed Williams approximately two weeks before the start of the trial, but he was never called as a witness.

Williams apparently changed his story after being interviewed and sent an email to Department of Justice Trial Attorney William Clayman, a member of the prosecution’s team during the trial, stating the following:

I was completely mistaken about not being at the Wholesale Motorcars lot during the time I was in Arkansas (AR) between May 8, 2019 – May 11, 2019. I do not know if I was on the lot computer or even if I ended up going there. It looks like during my time there, I did odd work for the guys and maybe even Josh Duggar. In the messages between Josh Duggar and I, while I was in AR, as attached in one of these screenshots I am providing, I tell Josh I was planning to come to the lot a couple of days. I apologize for the mistake; I had no intention to mislead you all.
Caleb Williams

At trial, the prosecution established through forensic evidence and expert testimony that Duggar was the only person present at the car lot at the time that illegal Child Sexual Assault Material was downloaded on his HP computer.

The defense filing states that Williams contacted the prosecution via email again six days later, stating that he had found “a few more passwords,” and saying that “several of the Duggar guys asked me to run back end of some of their social media to help them sell cars.” The court motion states that this email was not provided to the defense until five days into the trial.

For multiple paragraphs, the defense motion describes the importance of this email as “critical” and that the government “hid the ball from the defense during nearly its entire case-in-chief.”

“This deprived the defense of the ability to impeach these witnesses with evidence that yet another person had access to passwords,” the motion says. “Had the defense possessed this information when it became available, it would have meaningfully affected trial strategy and provided additional fodder for cross-examination of Government witnesses.”

The government confirmed that the email was unsolicited and that they didn’t even review it until the evening before the prosecution rested their case. But because of the failure to disclose that email in a more timely manner, the defense motion states that the court “effectively precluded Duggar from presenting a necessary defense witness.” The filing also notes that “Williams had refused to engage in any meaningful discussions with the defense in advance of trial.”

The potential relevance of Williams as a defense witness is discussed at length in the filing. The court ruled that Williams’ criminal record or past history as a sex offender would not be relevant in this trial and that his testimony would only be allowed if it confirmed his presence at the car lot on the dates in question.

The defense took issue with this, noting that “this Court’s ruling concerning Williams’ testimony deprived Duggar of the opportunity to present relevant, material favorable evidence in his favor and this ruling was disproportionate to any legitimate or evidentiary purpose. As such, it violated Duggar’s Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights and this Court should grant him a new trial.”
