A new study examining the differences in queer Republicans found that nearly half wished they were straight, and almost as many see being queer as a “personal shortcoming.” The report from the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law, entitled “Differences Between LGB Democrats and Republicans in Identity and Community Connections” found strong differences in the way lesbian, gay, and bisexual Democrats and Republicans viewed themselves, the overall LGBTQ+ community, and their level of participation in politics and the community. The study did not examine transgender or nonbinary folks.

“There is a common belief that LGBT identity and Republican affiliation are incompatible,” Ilan H. Meyer, Distinguished Senior Scholar of Public Policy at the Williams Institute and the study’s lead author, said in a statement. “Although they represent a small minority, some LGB people are affiliated as Republicans. However, it is striking to find how much they differ from sexual minority Democrats in terms of their connections with LGBT communities.”

The study found that 41 percent of LGB Republicans said they “would want to be completely heterosexual,” and 38 percent said they viewed being queer as a “personal shortcoming.” This compared respectively to only 17 and 16 percent of Democrats with the same views.

Compared to their Republican counterparts, the LGB Democrats studied were far more active within the LGBTQ+ community. According to the study, 46 percent of LGB Republicans felt a part of the community, and only 38 percent thought it is important to be politically active within the community. This compared to 72 percent of LGB Democrats on both points.

The study found some areas where LGB Democrats and Republicans shared similar views and behaviors. For example, there was little statistical difference in disclosure of their sexual identity to others, with over half out to their families and roughly three-quarters out to their straight friends. Both groups also held similar views about the “perceived stigma” of being LGB, including whether they would face employment discrimination and the belief that “most people would not want an openly LGB person to take care of their kids.”

LGB Republicans and Democrats disagree in two other important points. 85 percent of Democrats surveyed believed their sexual orientation was “a very important aspect” of their lives, while over half of Republicans said their sexual orientation was an “insignificant part of who” they were.

Yeah, being straight is great. You don't need to worry about getting punched in the face if you hit on the wrong person, nor do you need to worry that your partner has fucked sixty other guys before meeting with you.

Granted, women are entitled cunts who have no appreciation for men these days, but at least if you find a good one you can make a kid with her.

The voluminous amount of movies I've seen involving a guy getting punched in the face for hitting on some dude's wife/girlfriend contradicts your first statement.

If I were gay or whatchamacallit, I'd tell those people to pound sand, on account that neither me nor my sexual preferences are their property.

Wrongthink is the worst crime you can commit as a LGBQETC individual, and such behaviors see you banished from the community.

Now granted, I feel it is a toll worth paying... just that if you do not have friends outside of the alphabet soup crew it is an extremely lonely decision to make.

I'm not fucking queer. I'm gay. I like dudes. I don't wanna fuck the gender system or make my sexuality a central part of my identity.

This.

I'm pretty sure any non-leftist LGB people will gladly back me up on this.

If they refer to each other as "queer" (a homphobic slur mainly aimed at gay and bi men) then it's probably meant as an ironic joke or as a way to insult the SJW wokesters and troons.

I know this is a @CatParty bait thread, but the whole "queer" thing always rubs me the wrong way for several reasons. Especially when pretentious Marxists and postmodernists use it in such a snooty and academic sort of way.

I think there's a lot of other gay and bi right-wingers (or even just non-leftists) who can back me up on this one. @JohnDoe probably has a better and more thought-out take on this than I do.

Good. They should wish to be straight. The natural purpose of sexuality is family, not sodomy, and the gay lifestyle is horribly destructive. Kudos to them for recognizing their flaws and likely remaining celibate or whatever, they seem to be genuinely conservative-minded in spite of it.

They have a saner perspective on it than the GOP consensus, which has embraced faggotry. If you can’t conserve the definition of marriage, family, and man/woman, how are you “conservative” in any meaningful sense? If you adopt the left’s social values, that doesn’t mean you win, it means the left’s social agenda wins regardless of if its candidates do.

I'm gay and lean right a bit. Queer was mostly an old term for gay, but now it is overtaken by troons and other attention whores on social media. I commend them for using the word queer to be honest. Saves me the time knowing they're a retard and aren't worth anyone's time.

Funny enough, I never got backlash when I told some people at a gay bar I was gonna vote Trump in 2016 because Democrats threw gays under the bus to protect Islam. Some of the typical fags said "but he's so hateful" while some of the older ones agreed to disagree, or how it was nice to see someone speak their own mind instead of a broken record. Everyone kept chatting, got drinks and the world kept on spinning. I can't say how it would go in the current year where everyone screams to unfollow them if you vote Trump.

I'm a fiscal and political conservative, but only a social moderate. I've always admitted as such. The problem with a two party system is I have to pick one party to represent all my views. The conservative side aligns with my views more, but if either party aligns with your views perfectly I would suggest you're a brain-fucked sheep.

I do hope you never have sex for fun, by the way. No masturbating, no wearing a condom or letting your woman take birth control, etc. How's that baseball team coming?

If anything, I wish I were bi... Well, at least I used to before the last some years put bi people at the bottom of the LGBT stack. But, practically speaking, bi people have it best.

The term had been completely co-opted. Back in the 60s and 70s a lot of the homosexual subculture was using that term whenever the gays and lesbians were united about something that concerned both camps. (Back then gays and lesbians were pretty segregated.) It wasn't until the academic Marxists showed up that term began to be used more frequently, and gays/lesbians grouped more collectively that the term 'queer' entered the more common parlance.

At one point it may have been useful as a term for group unity to bring gays and lesbians together, but it has since been twisted to force support for transfetishists and pedos. You can't be a gay man or lesbian woman fighting for gay or lesbian rights anymore, now you're 'queer' fighting for 'queer' rights like dick chopping toddlers and MAPs. The term is used as a grindstone now, to reduce every individual into a collectivist mass that the academics direct.

So you're absolutely correct, it basically has become a term for insane critical gender theorists to put the homosexual experience into a blender and hit 'frappe'.

You and the GOP are more aligned than you think. But as for me, I’m not interested in a “conservatism” that means the Folsom street fair but with low taxes.

Your grandparents probably screwed more than you do and enjoyed it more too. Lifelong heterosexual pair bonding > one night stands, lonely nights with BLACKED.com, salad tossing, etc. What is the bedrock of a society if not family (two fags/dykes adopting a kid doesn’t count)? If you forsake the joys of lifelong love and the creation of life for the empty pursuit of cummies, I pity you.

...are you sure, though? On either of those points?

OK (((Traditionalist)))

Careful with that edge there. If you get too smug in your posts, your brain might release a small amount of dopamine. Tis the Devil's hormone!

Besides, isn't arrogance a sin?

He honestly does think that. @Terrorist is what happens if the "Coldsteel the Hedgehog" meme was created by Jack Chick.

And I pity you for denying yourself any kind of happiness, joy, or even the most mild and benign feelings of pleasure to spite your liberal parents.

And I pity you for denying yourself any kind of happiness, joy, or even the most mild and benign feelings of pleasure to appease a tyrant deity who hates you and will cast you into the eternal fires of Hell anyway. At least us "degenerates" will have been able to enjoy a mortal life. You'll be suffering needlessly in this life and the next and all your pretentious morality is just a cope.

Yahweh is an evil despot who hates Mankind and will torment us all in Hell when we die no matter what we do. The atheists and the traditionalists both think they can game the system but they can't.

Atheists take the ostrich approach where they think if they don't believe in it, they'll be spared.

Traditionalists believe if they live an intentionally dull and "moral" life of suffering and hardship trying to live up to a standard impossible to behold and cope by insisting people are truly happier this way, that the Great Kike in the Sky won't Jew them one last time and throw them into the Lake of Fire to burn eternally with all the other "degenerates"

Either way, you can't win. You just gotta accept it and quit trying to cope or game the system.

Before anyone tries to pull any strawman arguments, I'm not an atheist. I'm a maltheist.

Call me a cynical sperg and I'll admit I am, but I'm going to be up front here. A traditionalist lifestyle is just a cruel Kafkaesque joke. Let's just enjoy the time we've got here while we can because we're all going to be eternally tormented in the next life.

lmfao at “maltheist”. And you call me an edgelord!

If your concept of happiness/joy/pleasure is just hedonism for its own sake, that’s your problem. There are finer things in life and higher joys than seeking momentary releases of dopamine. Our ancestors understood this, and if you understood your ancestors, you might learn their existence wasn’t the endless dour misery you think life was before we could coom and consoom with reckless abandon.

If Christianity and the traditional family were the sources of tyranny and misery you think they were, they would never have been so widely adopted for so long and produced such robust societies. Again I ask: Is the family not the bedrock of society, and when society has strayed from that model, what good fruit has it produced?
