Will we get a Quake reboot ala Doom 2016 ?

Holy Necro batman.

Something I noticed about the Quake modding scene is that the Nightdive remaster cant run a good chunk of the ones on the older side, usually you always get an error message saying the most random shit.

So really, unless it was made for it or at least tested on it by the dev, its best to assume an older quake mod will only work on the source ports (and wouldnt surprise if they are finicky on which one)
Where do you get your mods? Only place I found was SlipSeer which is infested with wokies...

I would like to say that fighting the cyborgs in helldiver's 2 and invading cyberstan overall gives me heavy quake vibes

Unreal had them in 1998, even in software mode. They weren't really used for much though, the one I remember from the release version was in one of the multiplayer maps.
Really advanced engine for its time. It was superior all of the Quake engines but Tim never thought to release them under a FOSS license like GPL3. Epic got the last laugh however. From games to movies Unreal Engine 5 is being used and generating revenue for the company while id software is Bethesda's bitch and its tech was used for mediocre Doom games that people moved on from.

It's annoying that ID's engines used to be optimised and run on alot of different hardware and now YOU NEED a graphics card with good raytracing support to play the new doom game.

Unreal Tournament 1999 not only had portals in tons of maps but they had the Translocator which allowed teleportation anywhere.

Shotgun/Super Shotgun firing sounds in the original Quake have never been topped. ID had their priorities straight, if your FPS doesn't have a meaty, effective shotgun in it then it is not a good shooter, period. Honorable mention goes to the Grenade Launcher, I love that bonk sound when the grenade bounces from the walls.

And one of the most ambitious Doom engine games (specifically GZDoom), Total Chaos, was eventually remade on UE5

Q2 was the skill standard forever and a day and I have countless memories of all its glory.

I was actually impressed that Switch port of Q1 made split-screen co-op possible on the shiesty joycons, but it's still akin to running Doom on a preggo test kinda novelty.

Is a franchise remake due? Honestly, I don't think so. Q4 kinda sorta ish did that attempt and in terms of story it was as good as Quake got. I would leave it the hell alone and let its standard remain in full glory than to try and piss it away. Doom remakes to basically Quakify the game into 3D made sense, but that was just that.

Dark Ages already introduced some cosmic themed enemies into the mix so that’s another cue from Quake shamefully “borrowed”

Q1 in itself was all magic and paranormal, so technically that ship sailed from the get-go. Regardless, I honestly vote they leave it alone and let it die in full glory unlike oh-so-many rebooted old games.
