So basically there's this indie band called PWR BTM filled with hipster faggots. As in faggots who suck literal dicks. And I mean literally as in, they chortle on cock on the weekend but for real.

Their music is... eh, whatever. It's what you'd expect a hipster indie queer punk band to sound like

Yes, allegedly. Five days ago some chick named Kitty Cordero-Kolin posted in a Facebook group informing members that Ben Hopkins is a “known sexual predator” and Kolin had personally witnessed Ben initiate unwanted sexual contact with people. Although the Facebook group was private, a screenshot of the post was captured and shared widely via Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit.


No actual proofs, just 'it's well known' and 'I totes saw it'


It was enough to get their shit completely burned down and being erased from existence. Their music is literally disappearing from websites and the guy is basically branded a Bill Cosby without even anyone going to the fucking police to complain in the first place


This is fucking insane. Basically if shit had caught on that early in the past, neither Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes or Weezer would exist, for example.

Now it seems if you're on the cusp of being famous and you're accused of rape, get ready to become homeless instead of filling stadiums because you're fucked, son.

They didn't go against the Leftist Orthodoxy.
It wasn't revealed they voted for Trump.
They didn't do anything. They were accused by one random person on Facebook and now their lives are destroyed.

This is serously fucked up. IF this is false. Which I hope it is. Seriously, that T-Rextasy should tell who told him all these.... Things about the lead singer. Didn't he say that he had heard about it already? Shouldnt he pony up where he heard it from first?
 
This shit happens in music every now and again, Devin Perez from the band DIIV got a lot of flak for shitposting on /mu/. The dumb shit was calling people nigger under a tripcode, I'unno what he thought was gonna happen. I heard he was fired from the band over this, but I can't find any confirmation over this.

There was also the rape allegations against Michael Gira, the frontman of the legendary band Swans. This was forgotten for a number of reasons, like how his accuser Larkim Grimm being a well known nut or how she just happened to have song relating to abuse just as she accused Gira, but the biggest reason is that it's fucking Swans. It's hard to find a band with more hipster cred to their name than Swans and an unproven rape case wasn't gonna detour their fanbase, so over time people just kinda stopped talking about it.

tl;dr, Independent music, like any independent art scene these days, has these callouts from time to time and can cause varying degrees of damage to people's careers. Never seen the damage go this far for an independent artist though, sucks to be these guys.

Also, I dunno where the fuck noisey is getting "America's Next Great Rock Band" from. I never heard of them from any of the music news channels I keep up with (might say more about my music tastes than their success) and I highly doubt "Pavement but shittier and also way gayer" was gonna sell out seats at The Garden anytime soon.

It's a trip to see PWR BTTM posted here on KF, they were an old bandcamp find of mine ages ago and a couple of their songs make the rounds at my and my friend's faggot hipster parties. I didn't know they were getting popular.

I wish I were surprised by this but I'm not. SJW types have been turning on gay men with a vengeance during the last few years.

I'm kind of okay with this. The more the sjws alienates people the less money and support they'll receive.

Though some guy more or less loosing their livelihood all due to an mere accusation is fucked.

With bands like Swans, and other entertainers with accusations of their own like Casey Affleck, even if there's any truth to the allegations, it's easier to separate the art from the artist because they've never built their careers and reputations off of virtue signaling to SJWs. PWR BTTM wrote every song they ever made with that audience in mind. It's kind of like what happened to The Birth of a Nation last year where they pandered to a few aspects of Social Justice (Safe Spaces and Gayness for PWR BTTM, Blackness for Nation) and rape allegations effectively cutting the creator's careers off at the knees.

Mild :powerlevel:, but I go to a super-artsy, hipstery as shit college with everything you'd expect. Safe spaces, BLM support, etc. To give a good picture, the day after the election, there was a candlelight vigil out on the campus that I only found out about because I was smoking dope with my friend at the same time.

About six months ago, they played a gay benefit show (surprise, surprise) as the headliners. I went because my gay and lesbian friends really liked them. I had fun, though it was probably more due to the Captain Morgan we smuggled in and chilling with friends than seeing PWR BTTM live. Let's just say I'm pretty sure the organizers and my friends are kicking themselves for being duped by those dang, dirty FUCKING WHITE MALES.
