Nah, I'm pretty sure Psychonauts 2's original relate date was "2018" which is of course laughable by now, but a similar thing happened with Brutal Legend, announced in 2007 with a 2008 release date, didn't come out until 2009, of course with Psychonauts 2 has dwarfed that already, but Brutal Legend very obviously could have used even more development time, so it's not a bad thing.Wasn't that Rhombus of Ruin? Even the money grubbing Hollywood studios still (or at least used to) have their "Oscar bait" films every year, movies primarily made for the prestige than purely for the cash, but most AAA video game publishers can't even be arsed with one game a year that's the equivalent to that.Kotick was right. Those big companies have no problem in funding or developing small games, like EA have been publishing indie games, Square Enix have been publishing indie games from various third-world countries, Even Namco have published games from their former employees, just like Capcom. For what, 11 million budget, the Pschonauts only got an initial 500k sales, and lifetime sales of 1.7 million
With almost the same 15 million budget, Nier Automata, the game got 1.5 million initial sales and lifetime sales of 4.5 million (wont add the stupid drama cds and live stageplays and shit)
And Sekiro was made with a similar budget and got also similar 1.5 million initial sales and lifetime sales of 5 million.
all of them are critical darlings. But the difference is one is helmed by Tim Schafer. Kotick is right, Tim is just a bad investment. If I was Kotick, I would throw money at Fromsoft and Platinum to make games rather than Tim as they are better return of investment,
Long story short, the only thing Tim have on his name is that some megafans liked playing his games long ago, but can't be mustered to buy his new games, and only have slightly higher sales than Oneechanbara games but Tim's games are made with higher budget.

They said during an update at the end of last year that the game was pretty much finished and they were just doing polishing. The reason it didn't come out in 2020 was because after they got bought out Microsoft let them add a bunch of bosses they had to cut for budget reasons back into the game.Damn they must've really hauled ass during lockdown.
