[...] So. There you go. PlayStation 5, holidays 2020.

[...] "Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them—and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player you just jump right into whatever you like."

[...] The controller (which history suggests will one day be called the DualShock 5, though Cerny just says "it doesn't have a name yet") does have some features Cerny's more interested in acknowledging. One is "adaptive triggers" that can offer varying levels of resistance to make shooting a bow and arrow feel like the real thing—the tension increasing as you pull the arrow back—or make a machine gun feel far different from a shotgun. It also boasts haptic feedback far more capable than the rumble motor console gamers are used to, with highly programmable voice-coil actuators located in the left and right grips of the controller. No one gives a shit about all bells and whistles if there's nothing to play on it. At least Nintendo tends to get launches right when they release something worth playing. Remember Knack?

At least it’s backwards compatible this time, so you can play all those exciting over-the-shoulder, slowly-walking, cinematic experiences the PS4 has.

People still buy non-nintendo consoles? I thought everyone made the switch to PC when all the consoles tried to become "entertainment centers" AKA PCs.

I feel like there's been a trend of alternating dominance between sony and one-two other manufacturer(s), with the victor alternating once each generation.

PS2 beats Xbox >>> X360 beats PS3 >>> PS4 beats Xbone >>> ?

At least in terms of marketshare

Doesn't Xbox One already have triggers vibration? And its haptic feedback is a feature on the Switch already.

Given Sony's decision to be "woke" apparently, they will have competition with PC and Microsoft.

PS2 won over Xbox because 1) Sony was established as a successful video game manufacturer after the PlayStation, 2) an included DVD player that was cheaper in the long run, 3) Xbox released a year later.

Xbox 360 won over PS3 because 1) Xbox 360 capitalized on the PS3's delay by one year, 2) Xbox 360 was easier to develop for third parties, 3) PS3 was too expensive.

PS4 won over Xbox One mainly because of Xbox One's atrocious DRM and used games policy at launch.

MS may have an edge because of their initiation with console cross play, but they need to step up with exclusives. Considering that MS exclusives are also on PC, MS needs an incentive for people to buy the next Xbox.

If the PS5 is just an upgraded PS4, probably every major game currently in development for PS4 will be available on PS5 at launch or soon after launch.

When do they usually show what the console looks like? Holidays 2020 isn't really too far away, kind of an oddly casual announcement

Each game will be carefully censored for maximum enjoyment.

It's funny, my most played PS4 game was the port of Darkest Dungeon. I can't think of a good reason to buy a console that doesn't at least have Mario games on it.

The thing I'm looking forward to most from PS5 coverage is reading all the peasants pretending that its SSD (which has been standard on PC's for a decade) is some space-age game-changing technology. The Wired article is full of this shit and it's hilarious. No more copying the same in-game assets to 100 different physical locations on the hard drive! No more using doors to hide load times! What a time to be alive.
