I think I'll just let the band speak for themselves on this one.

Act III when???

Now.

Just to prove it… here’s the cover. Once again, John DeLucca and Caspar Newbolt have made magic. We can’t wait for you to see the rest of it.

PRE-ORDER ON BANDCAMP
So, you know how we’re always like “Hey, it’s Bandcamp Friday and you should go buy stuff from your favorite independent bands because the platform doesn’t take a percentage this day and they’d really appreciate it!”? Well, guess what. It’s Bandcamp Friday and we’re that band today.

What’s special this time? Well, as you saw above, Act III is here and you can pre-order it on CD. I’d say that’s pretty special. Don’t want the CD? That’s fine, you can just pre-order the digital album instead, but remember that the digital-only album doesn’t come with the story booklet/libretto + the amazing John DeLucca artwork. HOWEVER, if you get the CD, it comes with a digital download as well, so you get all the goods. If you don’t want the CD for some reason, gift that thing or sell it on an Ebay or in a back alley after you’ve read the book! Pretty neat.

Now, here’s where it gets really fun. We didn’t want to go the traditional pre-order route. Instead of making you wait (even longer) until the official release date, we’re going to unleash this story on the world episodically with a track (or 2) each week. It’s sort of like that Alien show you’ve been watching… but with sound only. And less aliens, but maybe more robots. But how do you get the new songs every week, you’re wondering? Just refresh the Bandcamp app once a week and they’ll appear. That’s all. Don’t worry, we’ll send an email (and post on the socials) to remind you when there are new songs (usually on Monday/Tuesday). You know, in case you’re so busy waiting on the second season of that Alien show that you forget about us!

Now you’re wondering about the Vinyl release, aren’t you? Well we don’t quite know about that one yet due to replication times, and we don’t want to start a pre-order and have you waiting on it till the end of time. So we’ll announce those the moment we know a for-sure “it’ll be in our hands” date.

GET TO BANDCAMP HERE!

Keep an eye on our socials (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and mailing list for more info as it comes in. On top of that, we’ll be doing live streams from time to time on Twitch talking about stuff, so follow us on there and come hang with us sometime!

See you out there,

-Commander

This was completely unexpected when I googled The Protomen last night. I genuinely believed it was never coming out. There's no general thread for this forum as far as I can see, and honestly, this is probably big enough that it deserves its own thread. It's been 16 years since Act II came out.

Whoa. Protomen brings back memories of another time, another me.

Are we actually that back ? Am I having a stroke ?

If I heard of any other artist releasing this out of the blue after 16 years , I would normally say "washed-out tries for a comeback".
(granted, the Protomen did a lot of touring and some cover albums in the meantime)

But it's the Protomen, so I say good for them, wish for the best and look forward to listening to Act III.

We're so fucking back. They posted a preview
Honestly when the female vocalist first debuted I was skeptical but she's evolved a whole lot. I'm stoked as fuck

For me, it's "No Way Back":

The past few songs with Thomas Light were really great, loved Light's Last Stand and The Good Doctor Part 2 but the last one released was him getting hanged followed by silence and that is the last track set to be released on bandcamp. It would just be a downer track to end the album on if it were actually the last one with all the wait for the conclusion of the story.

I guess the speculation is that they will release the final tracks when the album is fully released which will include The Fight and some other songs to wrap it up.

Also love the art that has been released for each of the tracks.

My favorite songs by far were Buried in the Red and Hold On, but the entire album is fucking fantastic. I really hope there's more when they fully release the album, but even if there isn't, it's still a masterpiece. What a great gift to get at the end of the year. We're so fucking back

I hate it. There's no motion; everyone's just singing about the way things are while nothing changes for most of the album. The entire story is in the last two tracks. What was the point of the rest of it?

According to the comments in the official upload for The Fate of Thomas Light, there was an ARG at MAGfest that ended with the message "this isn't the way it ends". I am in unbelievable amounts of copium right now hoping that there are more tracks inbound that continue the story other than The Fight.
I don't know why people expect a pleasant ending, ACT 1 and 2 have downer endings too. "You are the dead"

Hero's will rise and hero's will die, because humans refuse to learn. That is pretty much the motif of the acts.

Yeah. I also really dislike the female singer. I kind of primarily listen to the band for the male singer, so they basically crippled the only part I gave a shit about. L album in my opinion.

Yeah. I also really dislike the female singer.
I think she kinda grew on me.
Her better preformances are as Roll, not as Emily. Calling out feels like much more of her groove than any of the previous tracks.
Although I think The Dream was an unironically beautiful duet. I'm not going to sit here and defend the honor of her singing, I just find it's an acquired taste. And it's a bit of a coinflip on if a solo she does is good.

That being said, Good Doctor 2 was the hypest track out of three albums and I am looking forward to act 3 part 2.
From what I understand, wrapping up both Light and Blues in one album is an insane amount of work. So it'd be a disservice to both of them to just give them half the airtime needed.
