I second the Matt Outis theory, it's too obvious given Scissors Outis EGO was Envy res + Bleed, it would be weird for them not to give her a Middle ID.

Impossible. That would require Outis to be funny, dress like a nigger and have cool hair.

I really like Rien as a character. All the parents are relatively one note, but Rien really shows how you can get fucked up by being on the Index for a long time. Liking picture books since there's no ambiguity unlike the prescripts, not wanting to see endings because he doesn't want a conclusion to the status quo. He is more similar to the literary Yoshihide than Ryoshu.

"Yoo - Yoshihide! Swing that sword around for ol' uncle Hei. Come on kid ~ I bet it'll look really cool!"

Gone too soon.

It's more than just that though.
People are caught up on the prescript's forcing Rien to cosplay as Roland arbitrarily.
But the real takeaway is it seems that fates in the city are predestined and Since Roland escaped his bad end, it was pushed onto someone else.

He is more similar to the literary Yoshihide than Ryoshu.
I'm pretty sure that's who he's supposed to be (to an extent all of the nursefathers take this role). Like how PM Don Quixote isn't the literary Don Quixote, her dad was

Aside from trying to create a magnum opus for a superior and abusing the apprentices, both of which all the nursefathers are doing, he has the strongest bond with Ryoshu and ends up losing her through the completion of the project, then kills himself once its finished. Ryoshu isn't Yoshihide, she's just the daughter (and the Hell Screen as well)

Edit: Also about Smoke War 2, it seems to be against augmented humans/AI and adult Sinclair goes full on Total Robot Death in his fight. So maybe N Corp had a point all along.
IIRC it was "people that no longer resembled humans" so it could be anything from distortions to roach emperor types to something worse. I'd imagine total prosthetic-ed people were part of that.

Also please, god look at this, I promise it's not a lucky pull

So these are random but I didn't know that, so when it went from "Forgive me" to "Forgo love" and then nothing I literally stared like a slack jawed faggot. until I clicked back and saw it said mawfgsahas (picture of bleed) asdaa

and I realized I got indexed.

Being the only character to come back as a force ghost-equivalent is proof of this statement being true. Confirmed coolest Limbus character.
Honestly really enjoyed the Canto, I'd say it's finally the Canto to dethrone 6 from my number 1 spot. Then again I'm a retarded mark who enjoys clapbait and deranged enough to enjoy PM boss fights.

Sorry to double post but I just finished and I need to get this out because I've seen some people complain and I didn't play all that Fallen London to miss what is happening.
There are few savage summits higher in autistic worldbuilding than the concept of a hard magic system. Most writers struggle with giving an understandable motivation to their characters, let alone an arcane set of rules. What is frequently forgotten is that between the wizard and the fireball is a wand, a piece of stick with it's own mundane part in the puzzle.

Very few works attempt to seriously incorporate tools or the setting into this environment, choosing instead to focus on the more flashier parts of the story. For every Wheel of Time's "Magic is the thread of reality and -- shit nigga you can't just set it on fire like that" is a Stormlight's "I'm from a different planet nigga I don't have to explain shit". In other words, it is an extremely autistic phenomenon, attempted by few, achieved by less. Formerly one, now two.

The first, is Fallen London. An eldritch market goes to earth, steals the greediest, horniest city from the surface. Puts tariffs on pornography. Tries to fuck the sun. Succeeds in fucking the sun. Currently avoiding child support from the sun. Why does the city want to be underground? Child support. Why does it tax love stories? Because it's butthurt. How does a market and a sun love? Well that's actually a horrific violation of the great chain and inflicting emotions on things that weren't meant to feel is what we call an unwise decision.

Where were we? Right. The market does not have legs. How did it get underground? How does it move at all? It's pulled by big pigs. Stone pigs. But they are too busy eating and sleeping.

What are they eating? These giant pigs? Fungus.

Yes, Fungus. They like fungus. They are underground for the fungus. That's it. At least as far as I am aware. See it's really that simple. You don't actually have to explain all that much. Pigs like fungus. Stone pigs like fungus. Why wouldn't giant pigs like fungus? It's okay for the pigs to just want fungus. They are pigs. They eat fungus.

Second: Now that I've given you a crash course in whatever that was, let's talk about the capital C City. Not to be confused with the lowercase C city.

I see confusion at what the fuck Rien was, obviously he was Roland but WHY. Obviously he was larping but WHY. What the fuck was this nigga doing. What the fuck is the index doing? I see people suspecting that some guy being found dead there is important, or that Roland was supposed to die there. Why is he being hunted by the index?

What the fuck was that last request? Before he killed himself? What is Mercury, Radio god-of-City, doing?

He was literally creating the bad Roland ending. He was recreating the drama. Because he was bored. Because he appreciates it. He crafted his little actor. Cracked open the console commands. With 0 understanding of human emotion or reason he plunged his needle into his arms and hands and had his minimum wage target employee read the bits off a teleprompter. And when he didn't, he hit that nigga with the suicide spork. An omnipotent, omnipresent, bored little shit with a passion for the dramatic flair, spending years and years and years curating the dramatic climax of a scene play he had in mind and had read out by someone too mindfucked to care.

...

hey do you remember why they aren't allowed to have guns? Isn't it weird clones can only exist for a week? Why resurrection is so forbidden? Why thinking machines can't exist? Why can only humans enter the city? Why is it so oddly specific? Angela was allowed because she had the "potential" to be a human. What does that mean?

Did you ever play fight with your friend after seeing revenge of the sith and he totally doesn't kill you because you got robot legs (based) but then he bullshits the ol "I got a new robot head" excuse? Have you ever seen a movie where the main character gets sniped through a wall from off screen? Ever enjoyed a hackneyed radio drama where Clone love interest #3 returns from the war? No? Neither do they.

Pigs Eat Fungus.

Before the seed of light, it's said people were essentially dreamless and gormless. Even now, most of them are. The question was why, and I believe that has been fairly well answered.

What are the odds that our little Roland happens to be one of the few who had a dream, ended by impossible odds. How convenient we see that repeating now, but with a much worse understudy, who has to read the lines off a teleprompter. Dying in the same place, pushed by a series of very irritated assistants. The stage was already built, they were obliged to finish it.

We know that memory, even reality is debatable. Concept-incinerable. Why would the mind be safe? How many flips of a coin to turn a would be Carmen into a Canto 2 Gambler? Obviously they don't have total control, but for the first time we see what these niggas want and the pigs are eating the fucking fungus. It's not crazy eldritch shit they are watching them like a soap opera and the extras get told to stay in the back and keep quiet.

An endless, controlled, terrarium. A sentient canvas. A drama kid, endlessly generating chat GPT scripts, and when it doesn't go the way he imagined it in his head, he manually edits it, far, far poorer than even a machine would be capable of making. And that which is useless gets thrown outside.

And now we have a serious question.

the sinners are based on literature characters. Because that is the theme.

However so is the Pinky. Oddly enough. In fact so is Roland. And his understudy is getting superchatted obscure french poems. Word for word. The God wants him to read that exact poem.

Where does the Gacha theme end and the City's fuckery begin? Is this ludo? Are we getting funny gamed? I'm not saying this is Funny Games, but this is literally the exact Premise of Funny Games. Look up Funny Game. It's a movie.

God fucking Dammit Kimchi Hoon. Even I have my limits.

Maybe we're all just cold machines, stuffed into human skin, with human sins, sewn up by, the gods of city

1768616895958.png

Oh yeah you didn't forget about that little line did you? Gods was plural from the very beginning.

Dunno,
But my theory for the purpose of the prescript machines are:

They exist to round out errors in the system stemming from people's freewill.

The head has deliberately cultivated the city to be the way it is.
Therefore we can assume that there is some obscure goal to be reached beyond just being in control.

The prescript machines are basically just what Angela was to the seed of light project but on a larger scale. Just there to make sure the experiment didn't go off rails.

And now, a prediction for the future.
Given that Roland's bad end must happen to someone.
Doesn't this imply that Angela's bad end must happen to someone? At this rate, I think its Dias. (I still haven't read Distortion Detective lol)

Its be mattias outis since she just got a ego that makes envy res not shit
Mattias heathcliff or matthias outis.
THEYRE BOTH NIGGERS (lovingly)
But i somewhat agree with outis theres more symbolism to it. Odyseuss (or penelope if you believe in that theory) has a kid. Outis is probably forsakened how do you go from a general to a scalpel and hammer for a enigmatic company. Gundams are like trojan horses uhhhh if mattias outis was real she'd be a 40k fan wargammer and a toy fan but never playing the game.
I wonder what other ids are we getting for house of spiders. Lucio Heathcliff. Ren Hong lu. Albina Rodion. Hoheinheim Gregor.
Iirc ryoshu will get the pinky nursefather id

I wonder if the big 2.0 update will bring the new ui maybe the prophesized costume system

4 updates away
unless they do 1.99.01
Warning, sperging: Software versioning doesn't follow 1-100. PM uses the common Semantic Versioning system, which goes major.minor.patch. E.g. you'll see patch change when PM fucks up and needs to release an urgent bugfix before the scheduled weekly update. After minor version 99 comes 100 and next 101, and so on until the major version is changed and resets it

My personal autistic theory is that The Voice of the City is some sort of mirror world echos being scanned and repeated by the Index with no real purpose behind it. It's the reason why the Head doesn't get involved, since anything more would be too important to leave to a group of crazy cultists.

IIRC it was "people that no longer resembled humans" so it could be anything from distortions to roach emperor types to something worse. I'd imagine total prosthetic-ed people were part of that.

He definitely doesn't try to warn anyone from it, so I doubt it's Gregor's doing.

God damn this Canto was really the "We're so back" that I hoped to. 7 was good but was laser focused on Don, and 8 was just a mess both plotwise (a ton of characters that don't matter and somehow don't even get an ID) and gamewise (Honshou slop).

He definitely doesn't try to warn anyone from it, so I doubt it's Gregor's doing.

Unfortunately I’m not too sure Gregors unique, Herman’s comments about their work being a mistletoe (parasite) growing on the tree of life makes me think he’s just the test run for some kind of ordeal based ego parallel. Taping into lizard brain terrors the same way non-Carmen based egos tap into some aspect of humanities experience boiled down into a meme.

Given that Roland's bad end must happen to someone.
I don't think it's a case of 'must happen,' Roland is 33 and Rein started cosplaying him some 27~ years ago when Roland's career as a Fixer only began in his 20s when the Smoke War started. The Will of the City, or Hermes as Rein knows it as was imitating Roland, or rather trying to have someone fill Roland's shoes, before it likely even knew who Roland was.
This may seem strange but I think it fits with Carmen's explanation from Sora Don's uptie story, Moirai's from LoR, and the description of Rein's passives. Roland also has something to say on the matter.
Moirai says that the Prescript machine more or less picks up on the vibrations of the city, people's collective will, and the Prescripts are born of that collective will. With Roland alluding to the smoke beast as being something similar,

In the Don's Mirror World, as Carmen points out, her EGO has been shaped into the likeness of Sora's. The city was probably attempting to do something similar with Rein. Roland does temporarily unlock volatile EGO during his boss fight, but unlike in Yan and Mirror Don's case it failed.
Carmen clarifies these vibrations are then captured by a god of the city, probably the Hermes Rein's passives go on about, and are transformed into prescripts. I think this more or less fits with how Smoke War Sinclair describes the shape of time. It's sort of like a tree or, seemingly from Vergilius point of view, a forking river of blood (that's just the general vibe I get from his EGO and talk about the flow from Leviathan). There are roots and branches, a central trunk with off shoots, dead ends, and paths that exist only to prop up other ones.
Hermes, or the Prescripts, it's hard to tell the difference between the two, can't exactly see the future accurately. Only vague ripples make their way to the past, these are then read, and as Rein's passive says
>Hermes, a God of the City whose prescripts are distributed through radio waves
Transmitted into actionable commands, however odd those commands are, which attempt to affect the course of the future. It vaguely understood what role Roland was going to play and who he was, so attempted to mold someone into his image with only a vague picture.
The Gods of the City as described are born of the collective wishes of humans, with Hermes and the Prescripts being born for a desire for faith and to be blameless. With Carmen describing them as similar in nature to Distortions, which are born out of a person's individual desires forcing themselves on the world. The names given to them are more or less personifications or anthropomorphism, giving human traits to something nonhuman.
Although they do seem to have some sort of will of their own. That is to say I don't think they're working harmoniously with The Head, who is probably some sort of big head honcho God of the City.

I got a bit distracted, but my point is the prescripts ultimately just read and take advantage of the vibrations of fate sensed from the future and past. Fate isn't set in stone, as if it was it couldn't be shaped in the first place and there likely wouldn't be any loose strands for vibrations to pick up on.
