Had a thought about the whole "Fate lost" mechanic which seems to entirely break the rule where we stick as close to "gameplay is cannon" thing as possible after all the whole point of Dante is that he can't revive the people around him.

But now I think about this Malkuth thing and how it's out of order and implied to be all out of whack and I think it literally may be that the apparent ability of Malkuth is to go spontaneously move people over somewhere else, but this "Fate Lost" schtick started as soon as we unlocked Malkuth.

Now I have this image of Every time Dante pulls a "Fate Lost" he's just blowing his shit smooth off. Like Ezra takes a superheated sword to the face and Rodya, Greg, and Faust just watch Dante sigh and hit the self destruct button.

Okay finished the new event. 10/10, without needing for some gag to be unique like Princess Empress raising. It's basically an epilogue for the canto, and has a lot of great character moments.

Kira works well with the group, wish we knew what was her, and the other apprentices (besides Lucio), backgrounds, wouldn't be surprised they are all orphans taken in from the backstreet. There's a lot of info about the House of Spiders that fits better once we know about all the members and it fits in the epilogue since it doesn't break the pacing of the canto.

A lot of good character moments, especially Hong Lu and Heathcliff that are very short but poignant.

The comedy is pretty hilarious, like the sheer dark comedy of saying Robuncle was the best dad and then being told about the snowmen. Or the sheer Kafkaesque event of Gregor walking back into his old office.

Anyone else feel like Rodya has been seriously lobotomized in the character department? It felt super egregious during this Intervallo. It feels like ever since TKT, she's just doing and saying nothing important, reduced to only "haha snacks." She doesnt even share her perspectives on life in the backstreets anymore, and it annoys me especially when you can clearly tell she got the worst of it in the same way Ishmael is treated. I can only wonder at this point if they've been doing it as a means of keeping her held back until she comes face-to-face with Sonya again in Canto X (The same applies with Ishmael seeing Ahab again)

Lately its been the "everyone is suddendly a giganigger in the bus" episode back to back, there's nothing to be proud of in boasting how hard backstreets life was like, so she indulges in her favorite past time.
Also her IDs share a lot about her character, the fauvist story sheds some light into how pragmatic she is

New Intervallo was pretty cool, made me like Callisto and the Ring even more then I originally did.
Shame Rufo didn't last long, I thought she was cool for what little we fought of her. The Fauvists are currently my favourite branch of the Ring.
The comedy was also pretty good. My favourite parts were Charon and Araya hating on Sinclair

Honestly this Intervallo made the Ring my favorite finger, they really have a lot more range than the other ones we've seen due to their art movement gimmick while also being distinctly Ring. There was no difference between the two Middle groups we got, despite me liking them. While the two flavors of Index and Thumb we've gotten share a gameplay gimmick within their faction and are both very similar (Sinking+Poise Index who use unlock states and marks alongside Tremor+Burn Thumb who use ammo, but who knows maybe the Valencia Rodya and Luco Heathcliff will surprise us), while the very nature of the Pinky make them individualistic and not have a lot of synergy between members, thematically or mechanically.
While the Ring's not only has different mechanics for all three movements we've had represented (with the Cubists being Tremor+Bleed Hemorrhage making a cameo in Ryoshu's description of the Automanikins), but the art movement gimmick gives them more range while also making them more recognizable.

Also I'm curious who's going to get the Feral/Spontaneous student ID for the rerun. While Meursault and the Impulsive/Instinctive students stick too closely to one thing, the Chẽvre-Hibou/Goat-Owls are characterized by being too fickle in their Passive. If I had to guess, it'd be Sinclair or Gregor.

I hope the incoming N Corp chapter gives her the glowup Sinclair and Gregor got this canto. She's stuck in being the team mom. Ish is in the same position of being the only source of sane "read Nigga, read", but at least had a character arc. The two also doesn't really have any cool power the others have, maybe except an endless stomach and the ability to read.

I'm looking forward to Meur's crashout screaming at the priest from the book. Wondering if it already happened and he distorted, or if Dante is going to fill the role of the priest trying to comfort Meur during the canto.

Wondering if it already happened and he distorted,
There's a theory that Marie, Raymond, and Celeste may be the ones who Distorted instead. In the background of his EGO there are three monoliths, one for each witness in his trial. Additionally, in his promo video he talks about how 89 index fingers pointed at him, but only 86 of them poured out grief, fear, hatred, and revilement. The passive of his EGO even mentions it.
  • Refusal to judge: Combat Start: Gain 3 Protection if this unit is targeted by 3 or more Skills
Mind you, it doesn't specify if the skills targeting Meursault are one-sided attacks. Chains of others also has a +3 coin, and -3 offense level. So while he killed his mother (something also mentioned in his promo video), Marie, Raymond, and Celeste came to his defense, and then now we see three suspicious Distortion obelisks in the background of his EGO....

Cost at the end, after having upgraded everything and clearing out both tier 4 and 3 EGO gifts.

Dewd the fucking plushy doesn't show up in the gift compendium I'm so sad right now.

Are they going to give Marie huge assets like in the book?

There is a high posibility

Dante taking on the role of the priest would be interesting, I'd even prefer it as the idea of Dante and Meursault being at odds during the Canto makes a lot of room for intrigiuing conflict. They could even draw on the original Dante's belief in god clashing with Meursaults.
Although I assume they'll instead be an N-corp inquisitor. Probably elder Kromer.

Chains of others
I had made a connection to his base EGO with Pursuance Meursault months ago, in the last part, I was meant to say that Meursault seems to reflect more on Dostoevsky's "The dream of a ridiculous man" than "The stranger" who is better reflected by Rodion, but I got them mixed up.
The contrast between Rodion and Meursault is very curious, because both of them have appeared together in both April fools events, with Meursault swapping bodies with Rodion, and are seen together in different ID worlds.
Bloodfiends world, Meursault is the prince and Rodion the princess.
Dieci world, Meursault is the diligent director and Rodion the slacker of the group.
Ring world, Rodion is a docent, Meursault a student.
Rosespanner world, Rodion is a relaxed representative, Meursault a reliable worker.

Maybe the relation isn't as direct as it seems, and both characters do not have any meaningful links in a basis of bonds, but in one's nature. His ring ID story reveals how pitifully bad he is at exercising his true emotions under the school of Fauvism by doing everything by the book, while Rodion is a natural at self expression but ultimately feels repulsed by the fact that she gained recognition for being a desperate, misery slop backstreets girl.
Its ironic that they both have things they'd like from each other, but it would also mean completely sacrificing what they already have in their stead.
