Bros what's the counterplay to Rose Hunter and his unbreakable 6-weight instastagger coins?
The main counter for unbreakable coins is dodge defensive skills. Then using some EGO that debuffs the enemy with paralysis (Electric centipide Heath) or strength down (Chains of others) helps to further mitigate any incoming damage to other units. You could also use Sunshower Yi-Sang for some extra protection.

Problem is I would then need to spend every turn dodging until I get some extra slots, and if any of my sinners get hit the defensive line will inevitably collapse because Lasso staggers on 3 count and doesn't decay naturally

Thoughts on Canto 8, delayed this to avoid double posting when the info for the next story ID is released tonight

TL;DR: quite enjoyed it, only had a summary of DotRC so some things went over my head, happy that the focus on the art and animations paid off, 7/10, recency bias but current standing is 6>8>5>=7>3>4>1>2

  • Only had a summary of DotRC before going into Canto 8, I've been trying to read each book before a Canto comes out but balked when I found out how dense DotRC is, was able to folow along with Limbus story compared to the summary I'd read, but was still overwhelmed with things like the amount of characters and their names.
  • Enjoyed the story, liked how it linked parts of DotRC as well as other aspects from Chinese culture/stories/mythology (false platitude and fake smiles hiding sharp teeth, schemes and relatives being 2 steps from stabbing you in the back, the 12 Heishou packs being based on the Chinese Zodiac ect), it was also nice playing through the Canto again after completing it, seeing how things played out with the knoledge of where everything was going.
  • Pacing for Part 1 and 2 was alright, good mix of story and battles and a decent length that didnt feel like it dragged.
  • Putting the dungeon for part 2 was an interesting choice but considering how the story was playing out in Part 3 putting the dungeon there may have had things feeling like they were dragging on considering we were supposed to be in a rush to save Xichun and going through a long dungeon could have bogged that down.
  • I've seen some kneejerk comments in the community saying "OMG what happened to the Kong family, the Heads reaction and Hong Lu having to witness it all is the worst thing to happen in a Project Moon game", absofuckinlutely not, not while Love Town is still a thing. But on the subject of the fall of the Kong family I was happy to see it tieing back to the events shown in Lob Corp and giving an explanation of why they had to be killed off.
  • One thing that grated was the forced 'loss' in battles, it was cool when it first happened with Ricardo, and it made for a good set up and pay off with Lei Heng slapping our shit before being done in himself by Jia Que, but the drunken assassin fight being a forced loss was pushing it.
  • I understand why it wasn't longer, but Part 3 still felt way too short, especially coming off of the near 20 encounter Part 1 and the time of doing all the optional encounters in the dungeon in Part 2.
  • I was plesantly surprised at the things I'd correctly guessed for the story beats going into Part 3, mostly guessing the what if not the how and why
    • Guessed that the other families would start shit regardless of the Hierachy wars outcome, but thought it would be them sending out their Heishou to kill one another, not 'Wing War 2; electric boogaloo'
    • Guessed that the Elders would mess with Xichun in some way, but thought they would have replaced her own mind with one of theirs, fullfilling a sort of immortality and retaining control of H Corp, not forcing her to take the Anamna Worm
    • Guessed the Elders were using Hong Lu to see the world, but thought it was to spy on other Wings / find new sources of immortality, not because they wanted an alternative to LiveLeak
    • Guessed one of the Elders/ Jia Mu would use the Golden Bough themselves, believing it to be a source of immortality, not in a fit of rage from Hong Lu defying them
    • Guessed Hong Lu would manifest his EGO, but thought it would be a more extreme reaction of Hong Lu being able to express his sorrow at all that happened, with Jia Que arriving to see his memories and understanding what he'd been through and why he'd given the answer 'kindness', fullfilling a sort of Yin Yang with Hong Lu and joining to fight Jia Mu in a third phase of the fight to curb stomp Jia Mu and the other Elders.
  • Glad I was able to complete 8-30 before the nerf, but I do agree along with others that the fight was severly overtuned, and am happy to see where it is after replaying it post nerf.
  • The Milli song is good, like most before it took a few listens through to 'get' it, but I'm putting it more up to that I was expecting 'Iron Lotus but sorrowful' and not 'Lo-Fi beats to murder your granny to'.
  • Happy to see the effort put into the art and animations, was a little worried when the initial announcement was made that they had to pick between focusing on the art or extra EGO for the battlepass, thinking that they'd fuck up and would result in everything being worse overall.
  • I take back most of what I said regarding whether or not the story writers were washed and this Canto wouldn't be a hit, but there are still some glaring holes in the story showing they rushed in areas, especially in Part 3 (Whats that? Multiple Wings and big players in the city are currently on the move and are invading Hongyuan to disrupt Xichun accending the throne? They're causing mass destruction and are only being held back by Jia Que's forces but will soon overrun Daguanyuan? Welp Xichun did accend the throne and the Heishou hand waved away all the invaders just like that, too bad so sad.)
  • Not an original observation, but confirmed it myself and yeah, Hong Lu's EGO corrosions in one way or another foreshadow what happened to the Kong family and show he's still traumatized by it, from inocuous things like Soda being scared of the birds flying around, to the Corrosion character either trying to protect/not alter the abdomen ( Roseate Desire, Dimension Shredder) or showing damage/distress to the abdomen/stomach area (Lasso, TotTB), Effervescent Corrosion even has the pearl where his abdomen should be and the dialog of the attack states "Filth nests inside me...so that they may be reborn as something useful".
  • I don't know how to feel about the Heishou: Si IDs we got at the start of the season, not because I think they're bad but because the Si only got a small mention at the end of the Canto, whereas they have a whole roster of relatives they could use for IDs (inb4 Sinclair Xue Pan ID).
  • I'm a little clueless as to who from this Canto Hong Lu's seasonal identity will portray, but from the small glimps given from Heishou Fausts uptie story, I'm looking forward to replaying the dungeon and Part 3 to see how Hong Lu shit talks his relatives during battles.
  • The post credits scene looks to imply the next intervallo will be continuing on in H Corp, with LC 'ingratiating themselves'/looking for a kickback for helping get Xichun on the throne.
  • Still waiting to see if we'll be getting Walpurgisnacht, or if they'll skip it and push what was already made into the next one.
  • I imagine that the game will go on beyond 12 Cantos, but even then I wish they would get on with showing us the what and why going on behind the scenes in regard to the New League of Nine, Demians group and the calamity thats supposed to hit the City.

And with that, info of the new story ID

Xichun Ishmael: Blunt Poise Rupture ID with unclashable built into her skill 3 and unclashable conditional built into her alternate skill 1, attack weight conditionals on her alternate skill 1 and skill 3, her gimmick revolves around her retreating from battle before coming back with a free attack against enemies.

Probably going to stop spoilering story related content at the next weekly update unless something comes up, by then I imagine most people who wanted to experience the story spoiler free would have done so.

ALSO also, looking at the update notes, there was some talk of whether or not to revert the changes to 8-30, though nothing is set in stone yet.

Was I stroking out when chapter 5 came out or something?

I thought it was and still is the weakest chapter not counting 1&2
But everyone else seems to rate it relatively high for some reason.
Yeah I feel kinda the same way honestly. Canto V doesn’t really pick up until the Ricardo fight. A lot of people praise 5 for being so good but really I think a lot of people are more so just praising its latter half rather than it as a whole. Overall compared to the other cantos it’s kinda weak, and if it didn’t have that final dungeon probably wouldn’t have been nearly as praised.

Also I have a bit of a prediction about Canto 9.
Remember how it was mentioned in Lobcorp that some wings (or a wing, one of the two) were harnessing energy from hell? I think we will see that in use here. I think wherever we are visiting for Canto 9 is going to be using that Hell Energy. Likely to fuel or otherwise help create the Hell Screen.

also I just realized, unsuppressed Don with the Qliphoth field was able to fight vergilius to a draw. She's probably the strongest character in the franchise at this point.
Vergilius isn't even the strongest fixer on the block brother. Call me when Don can square up against Garion, Kali, Iori, Baral, Zena, Elena, or Dong-hwan the Grade 1 Fixer.

Some autists apparently datamined that kong is the jade qilin by some cut dialogue, so wake me up when those shitters can produce more than 2 rings like my chink hero and sheep man.

Surprisingly Modern Colors mostly have a 3+ mang requirement like vergilius (in canto 6) indigoat elder, and kong qiu.
I think sinclair will be the first to actually develop a ring (mang) due to his cain mark but i think yi sang will be the first to manifest shin due to the prerequisites being Intense emotions and being able to be clear of mind something yi sang is familiar with having no emotions and his canto allowing him to be very emotional like seeing gubo he gets

also zilu can use shin but cant use mang

Apparently PM twt has decided Lei Heng, the winged tiger general of the Liangshan Marsh Rebels; canonical women respecter, is a rapist. And Ryoshus canto is going to be about sexual assault.

Just like Ish’s Canto being about buttsex, Heaths being about racism, and Hongs being about grooming; methinks this is some personal trauma poking through.

The only thing rapey about Lei Heng is how El Director raped him in the nerf department, because that man is a true shell of his former self now.

Hope you are joking, not that it will be necessarily bad, but talking about sexual stuff with Asians is almost always done in an overly preachy manner.

Nah it’s not the Asians, it’s literally just the English crowd

From what I can glean, his character is typically portrayed in media as like, Osaka (yes that one) mixed with Han Solo.

What little I’ve seen the reaction seems to be a bewildered “what do you mean Dynasty Warrior Bubba Gump is a rapist?”
