Passenger Vehicle Dispatches Rise 25.4% YoY to 4,37,312 Units in April​


India’s passenger vehicle industry started FY27 on a strong note, with domestic passenger vehicle dispatches from manufacturers to dealers increasing 25.4% year-on-year (YoY) to 4,37,312 units in April 2026, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The strong performance was driven by robust demand across utility vehicles and passenger cars, carrying forward the growth momentum witnessed during the second half of FY26. Utility vehicles continued to remain the key growth driver, registering a 21.5% increase to 2,44,280 units, while passenger car dispatches rose 32.7% to 1,20,945 units during the month. The sustained growth reflects improving consumer sentiment and sustained demand across the automobile sector.

The broader automobile sector also witnessed strong performance across categories during April. Total two-wheeler sales rose 28.4% YoY to 18,72,691 units, while three-wheeler dispatches increased 32.8% to 65,668 units. Overall vehicle wholesales across segments grew 27.9% to 23,16,671 units, indicating broad-based growth across the industry. SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon stated that the industry continued the growth momentum seen during the second half of FY26, despite concerns over commodity prices and geopolitical developments. Industry experts noted that rising incomes, improving consumer confidence and continued demand for utility vehicles are supporting expansion across India’s automotive ecosystem.
