Guys 'pro-ana' basically just means anorexic. They have a mental illness and like most people with a mental illness they suffer from delusions.

It means anorexic and deliberately worsening your condition and that of others. Pro-anas are shit people, not just mentally ill.

I think @AnOminous was more focused on the fact that not only do these anorexics feel no desire to overcome their ED, but they also view it as an ideal way of life that many people should follow. They encourage other girls to develop anorexia and frame it as a "positive" thing that will improve life...instead of a terrible thing that will shut down their inner organs and kill them.

I do wish I had a fraction of the self-control around food that these nutters do, though.

First one is the Fit Vegan Ginger, with her very own thread here on the Farms. tl;dr is she's anorexic/orthorexic and is/was promoting her disordered eating as healthy. Also a Jesus freak. When the evidence for her eating disorder became too damning, she switched to saying that she has cystic fibrosis.

She's a big fat bundle of toxic shitty mental health problems who hides behind a thick curtain of kawaii shitposting and u w u positivity bullshit. She uses pity points to beg for merch on her Instagram and Tumblr accounts. It's amazing she hasn't died yet.

There's a difference between fatty foods and foods that they would specifically eat on a binge before going and yurking it all back up. Like, if someone was recovering from a rape, and as a "gift" you bought them an outfit identical to the one that they had been wearing when they were raped. Anorexics/bulimics have very troubled relationships with food, and if a certain food triggers a memory of binging/purging it can be detrimental to the healing process.

It's not just that it's fatty stuff. They have such an unhealthy relationship with food that they need to learn what normal eating is, how to balance your diet, how to go grocery shopping, etc. Bulimics tend prefer specific foods to binge, partially because some of them of them are easier or less unpleasant to purge afterwards. Being around those foods can act as a trigger to fall off the recovery track. Ashley is dying slowly from her eating disorder and spitefully mailing triggering packages to other ED sufferers who are trying to recover.
 
I like looking up the diets they make up when I'm bored. I used to be horrified but I've become so desensitized by now that it doesn't really shock me anymore.

Eating disorders are about control. The person feels their life is so out of control that they seize control of the only thing they can: their weight. They make it all about their weight. Getting on their ass about recovering threatens them because they know it means giving up that control.

It's the loss of control that's scary to them. They don't realize they've lost control of their ability to STOP starving or purging.

ED's are sad. People with ED's who encourage others to develop them are both sad and disgusting and ultimately a danger to others.

At the opposite end, we have the super morbidly obese, like Amberlynn, who cannot control themselves for a second. Their life is not about weight but about food-how much they eat in a day. They also have lost the ability to STOP eating.

They also encourage each other, by going to to crappy restaurants, buying cases of soda, etc. ALs friend just encouraged her to drink soda and eat funyans st 3:00 am. because she was "hungry. "

I think anaorexics and obese both have mental illness only now the morbidly obese are starting to get the recognition.

Weight is the focus for both these groups and it's sad and disgusting.

I don't think we can really place all blame at the hands of the fashion industry though.

I'mon the thin side of normal, I don't think about food too much. Most of the people I know straddle the line without it being an issue. It's a mental illness for others.

But if it's really a mental illness can a proana site make you that way? I'm not so sure.
 
Some morbidly obese people have issues with compulsive overeating. Basically the binge without the purge. They're the opposite of anorexia and bulimia but still have a mental illness.

Feed people enough propaganda long enough and they start to believe it. Poeple more susceptible to mental illnesses are probably the ones who can't stop when they realize they're destroying themselves but people who aren't probably realize how shitty pro ana is and can stop after a short time.

She thought of anorexia diets to to get her to her goal weight and actually developed anorexia after a while, because she became a control freak and it was never enough. She recovered now, but it is possible. :powerlevel:

It is possible to get a mental illness thanks to your childhood and upbringing. Borderline Personality Disorder can be a result of a traumatic childhood and anorexia can be a result of your parents calling you fat every day. If a mom is an anorexic, her daughter probably also will be an anorexic because of their mindset.
 
binge eating disorder, anorexia... really closely related illnesses actually. they're opposite poles of the same issue.

bulimics are just nasty though.

also, using laxatives is bulimia. overexercise is bulimia.

I'll break it down.
binge: overeat
purge: attempt to remove calories in an unnatural fashion

anorexia: restricting calories and weighing in at less than a certain BMI

anorexia b/p subtype: restriction with occasional binge and purge behaviors, low weight

bulimia: binging or restriction at higher calorie amounts, with use of purging techniques. can be any weight

ednos: mixture of eating disorders varying depending on circumstances, no weight requirement

binge eating: binge without purge

osfed: usually overweight, mixture of eating disorders

orthorexia: using "health concerns" or a variety of dietary restrictions to be bulimic or anorexic


binging can vary. anorexics are either low or high calorie restrictors. for a low restrictors, a single banana might be a binge. for someone with bulimia or binge ed, it could be twelve pounds of food.

purging includes vomiting, laxatives, over exercising, sauna overuse, attempting to become ill with food poisoning or other maladies, and chewing then spitting out food without swallowing.


spoopy Ashley is anorexic b/p subtype. the Big Sisters are binge eaters. vegan ginger is orthorexic. etc

mukbang videos are usually bulimics or binge eaters.

you have to be thin to be diagnosed anorexic. this causes extreme amounts of rage and fury among the would-be skeletons in the pro-ana world. this is where the best milk is found.

also, since all pro ana posters now get banned if they're obvious, you'll find them under the recovery tags on each site, triggering those who are actually on their way to health.

seeing very thin people pretending to eat is a trigger for these cows. seeing spoopy Ashley knees triggers them. then they want to go full Mr. Creosote.

anorexics die from starvation or heart/potassium issues. they get lanugo and osteoporosis. bulimics die from stomach rupture, esophageal tears, electrolyte imbalance-caused heart attacks.

all the rest get diabetes and die from fat.

you can't catch this shit from the internet. they're looking for it to begin with because they're already having disordered eating habits.

Its kinda late where im at so i cant properly summarize (and im lazy) but here are a few things i saw:
-girls being liking eugenia cooneys body
-calling barbara palvin fat
-swooning over thigh gaps, collar bones etc.
 
Part of me thinks the whole thinspo/proana website shit is relatively harmless outside the group of people who are just inherently going to starve themselves to death. Yet, I have known why to many people who have either "functional EDs" (basically only going to take a few years off their lives) or people who are prone to go from normal to full blown ED after they decide their pants are slightly too tight.

There should be a whole lot more grief given to ED gateway sites/products. Outside a handful of medical conditions, no one should be tracking their food indefinitely, recreational athletes don't need their freaking body fat % measured, and no one should be eating a full pint of ice cream in one sitting regardless of the calories. There are only a few logical conclusions of this obsession with being fit, eating clean, macros/intermittent fasting, etc. BS.....you develop a full blown prona ED, you swing the other direction and develop a binge ED, you fuck up your metabolism or some other part of your body which stays with you even after you stop the insanity, and lastly you never develop a recognized ED despite the fact that you aren't able to socialize or celebrate holidays like a normal person ever again.

Proana stuff is sick, but is pretty limited to people who are inherently included to struggle with body dysmorphia or OCD/control type issues (I'm not trying to downplay the hell they go through, just that most people aren't naturally in this position). However, all the so called health and fitness crap online is pretty criminal. This shit exists because there is money to be made. The people involve don't care if they are grooming people for full blown eating disorders.

Apparently striving for decent lab work, carrying enough weight that you don't waste away when sick, but not so much weight your joints prematurely fail, staying enjoyably active, eating relatively balanced, and accepting that eczema or occasional stomach upset is part of being human is just INSANE...you aren't a freaking snowflake, humans have survived almost everywhere are on earth without My Fitness Pal, Halo Top ice cream type product, and unlicensed cross-fit coaches.

Never before were humans over 70% overweight or obese, as in America. For some people intuitive eating just doesn't work. I think that's an argument for more people minding their intakes, not less.
