I remember back almost a decade ago when I used to be obsessed with counting calories and trying to be as skinny as possible. It was a time when so much other shit was going on in my life and me having actual mental illness that it very much does point to just how fucked in the head a lot of these people (mostly but not always girls) are.

This just looks like poorly made shrimp gumbo and not even like an edtwt thing. I am on my phone and don't have my glasses on but the rice could be one of those weird substitutes too.

Me too, I ended up with having a pot belly like that Nikkole girl or what you see on African children. So I guess, I ended the ana phase. Because it made me look fat anyway:stress:
Now I eat more than a regular normie, but I do work out a lot. Still nazi about sugar and unhealthy stuff though, but that's because I'm a skincare junkie. And *Drumroll* Being an ana is awful for your skin too.

So in retrospect. Do anas want to be anas because they want to be UwU pwetty? Because it really won't make them that.

Eh, it looks good to me. Much better than everything else we have seen here.
I know exactly who you're talking about. Nikkole has been a personal cow of mine for a while. I came across her because she was somewhat controversial on edtwt and I often saw other anorexics pile on her. She's always been incredibly disingenuous with the things she says and posts.

Honestly I think with the rise of Internet, most girls (even some guys) will go through a phase like that. Theres ads for calorie counting apps and diet apps (WW, Noom, etc.) everywhere. Many girls (even in this thread even) have been on MPA at some point in time. Plus, there is so much misleading information about nutrition of facebook and other social media websites. You can take 1 unit about nutrition in college and see all of it proven wrong.

In a messed up way, I think this circles back and feeds to the fat acceptance community because people end up going off the track in the other way after getting stuck in the pro-ana community. Makes me think if I ever had a daughter, I'd try and keep her away from the internet as much as possible.

As for what I know, it's mostly gay guys and boys from wealthy families that tend to be anas.
Honestly haven't seen that many gay anas, as they get shunned in the gay community for not being the stereotype of being buff.
Even the feminine ones tend to be on the chubby side, and look more like pigs. Than the UwU dainty femboi they think they are.

I'm lucky, as I have no clue as to what these mean. But yea, being sheltered in with a group of other sickos make matters 10 times worse. It's the whole "incel forums make shooters"-thing.

I don't know if this is the right place to put this but I have noticed an uptick in "fatorexics" like Tess Holliday and tiktok anachans are split on this creator.

One side says "you can be anorexic as long as you are restricting below 1200 according to DSM-V" and the other side says "you have not been restricting under 1200 for very long and you're not underweight so you're not ana"

This user has been claiming the anorexic label for a year and has not lost any weight, apparently. She is in the deathfat realm and at a glance I would guess BED if anything, but it's funny watching this slapfight from a distance.

Personally, I have read doctor/dietician mediated 600 calorie diets and multi-month long fasting for some class 3 obese patients that are successful. They are absolutely not anorexic, though, despite being in that "barely eating for months" category.

ETA: Did some more lurking and she says she is still obese because:
- chronic dieting side effects because she has been on diets since she was 4
- lymphedema
- PCOS
- her body holds onto fat because that's what bodies do when there is trauma, apparently

As a medfag, LOL. I side with the gatekeeper anachans on this one :story:

AFAIK it’s mostly hsts trannys who are Ana now, gotta starve away the yucky men muscles away somehow

It’s been decades since they’ve been doing this and frankly it has gotten worse not better. In le West every ten years the fashion trend switches and people are not trapped with images of emaciated women in media forever.
I disagree that the fashion switch? I feel like every era since the 60's brings a new batch of suspiciously skinny bitches, along with normal looking people, but the skinny bitches are still hanging around even when the fashion is supposedly favoring curves.

How Zendaya avoids raising suspicions when looking as emaciated as she sometimes does is beyond me. Taylor Swift had her skinny phase and came out saying it was an ED. Emma Stone may just be a pear-shaped strategic dresser but she looked awfully slim in LalaLand and Birdman. Margaret Qualley seems like she restricting pretty hardcore in Once Upon a Time especially since she looked fuller a couple years ago. And what's-her-name from Stanger Things with the strong square jaw is straight-up not eating.

The Dark Pill when it comes to weight in visual mediums is that bony faces and bodies photographes better and so it's never not gonna be a subject. Especially since the entertainment industry is in bed with the fashion industry and the criteria there are still Ana-core. They can send chunksters on the runway from time to time but the1 0 underfed girls are still there even when it's Fenty for Rihanna

I agree, twiggy really fucked it up for all women race in the west. However there’s a very big difference between what a westerner considers chubby and what an East Asian considers chubby. Granted chinky ladies are smaller by comparison and 24 is the cut off for obesity in China, the standard is ridiculously high for what’s considered an aesthetically acceptable weight (23 in India i think, and the American studies with all asians plus Pacifics ppl says bit lower). You sure rarely see a specimen like our queen of Gatineau but the goal weight is 50kg/110lb. Looked up average height for Chinese women, it’s 5’1-5’2, that will give you 20.1 bmi.
the younger generation in China are definitely taller, you would be considered to be pretty short for a women if you are not above 160cm (about 5’3). Nutrition makes up 50% of how tall you’ll be, and an average Chinese family still can’t regularly afford meat until the later 1980s, making most of the older gen midget sized.
There are also many trending body checks, for example the A4 waist, where you put a piece of A4 paper in front of your torso (vertically) and the goal is to have your waist be the same size/smaller to the paper. The width of the a4 paper is less than 17 inches. Yes chinky ladies smaller but still, it takes a level of émaciation or exceptionally small frame to achieve that. There’s also a complete lack of any plus sized (size medium and above) presence in the media other than amy schumer comedian type, without the vagina talk ofc.

Speaking of chinky ladies, douyin (Chinese tiktok) content gets reposted a lot for “thinspo”

The thing is, they are mostly filtered to hell. The legs are ridiculously elongated:

It’s interesting to see non-chink anachans use these as “goals” when the users themselves don’t even look like it. I can only imagine the pressure these vids put on EA anachans…

Spend more than a couple hours on edtwt, you'll find a bunch of ridiculous character diets. They have nothing to actually do with the characters obviously; the most related I've seen is "Character likes vegetables, eat lots of vegetables!" or "Character is an athlete, do lots of cardio to burn off those 300 cals!" I guess it's too much effort to say which low-cal foods you should eat to be exactly like Patrick Bateman.

Lmfao I see many actually quote him verbatim, you can always be thinner, look better. Many would even include a picture of him. Kinda funny tbh

Something that's been annoying me lately is how anorexia and anything that even hints at it, has all these TRIGGER WARNINGS or straight up gets censored, but big ol' fatties can mukbang themselves into cardiac arrest all day long and get paid for it.

Have pity on the poor compulsive eater that is trying to not be a deathfat but gets triggered to overeat by all the thumbnails on YouTube of giant platters of delicious looking food. Hell, the average fast food restaurant TV commercial could cause a binge. Where are the censors for that?

And for thinspo don't bother with Douyin or even Weibo, just watch some modern setting Chinese dramas. Skinny people all over the place. Or watch some 60s TV, or music videos from the mid-80s.

I don't think it's fair to put it all on a particular individual, especially twiggy.
I said 60's but to be fair skinny legend Audrey Hepburn was already a star before twiggy and she is another one who didn't eat much imo. But it's not about those women. Entertainers don't create standards, they just mold themselves to the ones who already exist and can benefits them. A small waist is one of the older beauty criteria I ever heard of in western literature.

As for your sperging about beauty standard in China I don't disagree. It's seems like those societies:

1/ Always liked skinny (and pale, and demure, and girly) women probably
2/Very recently exited mass poverty so their newly-created middle-class now has the leisure to obsess about all things related to social status, but not the experience to counter-attack the most unhealthy injonctions.
3/ Social media and technology are present in every aspect of people's life and multiplicate those phenomenon tenfold.
4/Lack of gender-equality makes some women over-invested in beauty-standards as a way to attain status

EDs were rampant in old Hollywood. Look at the silver age film stats and you'll just see the ones hit the worst and their disorders were created/ encouraged by the industry.

Elvis Presley (man had it bad with years of starving and binging himself and at one point even wanted to have a doctor put him in a coma as a "sleeping Beauty diet")

Marlon Brando

Judy Garland

Let's just add all the gals grabbed by MGM right after ww2.

There was the first major anorexia death that was really reported in the media at the time when it was called a "young girls' disease".
Karen Carpenter. She was done dirty by her entire family and the industry until her body finally gave out on her.
