Got Postal 2 with all it's DLCs and Postal 4 for the 25th Anniversary. Finished P2 & DLCs and I've got to say this is probably the most entertaining game I've ever played. Now I'm playing P1 & P4 bit by bit. Holy shit I can't believe I missed out on all this.

How are you feeling about P4 specifically? Because I sorta recently got into it after finishing up everything in Postal 2 and, to be honest, it's not really hitting the same for me. I'm nearly at the end of Monday with just the sewer cleanup job left and I could not be more bored with the game compared to P2. The humor is especially falling flat for me, not that Postal was ever known for subtlety or highbrow humor, but P4's "writing" is kind of leaning way too hard into it to the point of total desensitization.

Also, Civvie refuses to sell me crack. Fucking hack YouTube cunt.

I haven't played much, only done the Prison job so I haven't experienced alot. I found the combat to be entertaining and enjoyed running over people with the mobility scooter. I felt overwhelmed with the new inventory and constantly picking up new shit but it should be fine. I've seen people say that the game is kinda barren right now, but the devs said that Postal 2 was also like that at launch, and since they're really passionate with this, I'm gonna be :optimistic: that all the problems get solved/lessened with time.

Also pissing is fucking hilarious because of how large & powerful the stream is

With P4 they tried to basically redo P2, but lost the magic. I guess after the abortion that was P3 they wanted to do their own thing but...meh. Brain damaged is a good SERIOUS SAM type shooter
If I remember correctly Postal 4 started as a ground up remake of 2 but they ended up thinking a sequel would catch more eyes. I think that was said in one of the dev streams but I couldn't tell you which one anymore.

Postal 4's voices kind of made me realise how important Rick Hunter is to this series. Corey is the closest thing to a decent replacement but I attribute that to Hunter and Corey being close friends so the latter knows how the former speaks. And I can tell Jon St John is trying but its clear that he would much rather be playing Duke again than this. He is good but not...great like Hunter and Corey.

And Zack Ward seems to go through the motions in 4, okay enough but seeing his voice coming from game Postal Dude is a surreal experience. I like that he is here but he still feels out of place, which I suppose isnt anyone's fault. Deep down I kind of wished each voice had their own associated design, like Zack looks more like his movie self, Jon is P4's design while Hunter and Corey are their respective postal dudes (Paradise Lost did "settle" Corey as P3 Postal Dude).

Why would you remake Postal 2 to begin with? Its perfect as is. It made sense to make it a sequel but they need more improvements and changes if they expect 4 to become a timeless classic like P2 (and the humour is trying to piss off but not piss off enough so it pleases no one)

Postal 2 as a game is perfect as is. Remaking it is as nonsensical as remaking the 90s IHNMAIMS game. It's already good, what's the point of redoing it?

At best I guess you could give it a new coat of paint but who am I kidding, feels like today they will screw even that up. A lot of remasters these days tend to make it to "pretty" or "cartoonish".

The uncomfortable uglyness of IHNMAIMS is part of the experience, being based on one of the bleakest short stories in science fiction.

Also rest in peace Harlan Ellison, he hated video games but still gave the best voice for A.M anyway (and the Hate speech at the beginning was written by himself iirc, which wasnt in the original short short but modern publishings of it tend to keep it since it was that good)

Realistically, the only objective changes Postal 2 could use is under-the-hood fixes to make the game less prone to crashing (and maybe something to address an "invincible NPC" bug I ran into a number of times), but that's about it. A remake would be inherently unnecessary. I mean, fuck, would they just replace Gary Coleman? Or just reuse older recorded material like they did with Paradise Lost? That'd be kind of lame.

RWS seems content to sit on their laurels for the most part though. Aside from maybe OCCASIONALLY pushing out some bugfixes and correcting some crashing issues in P4, they seem convinced the game can coast on its supposed meme status and the series' reputation, given how dismissive their PR seems to be of entirely valid criticism of their jank-ass mess of a game.

(Good thing they have Brain Damaged in the meantime.)

A cool thing they could have done is having people wearing masks be more weary and likely to panic and either flee or try to shoot you if you just get close to them. It would be a good piece of social commentary.

Or maybe an exchange like this

"Uh, excuse me, whats your vaccination status?!"
Postal Dude: Dont worry, I had my rabbies shot
"Are you trying to kill me?!"
Postal Dude: That depends on you telling me what I want to know.../ Is a that a rhetorical question?

RWS just released a new update to celebrate the game turning 20 years old. Although it looks like it's mostly just xPatch brought over into the main game.
Half-Life 2 is turning 20 next year. I bet Valve will do fuck all, as per usual.

Edit: first post-patch crash after like 10 minutes of gameplay. I don't know what I expected

Happy birthday to the Postal Dude.

Thats adorable, now how about making P4 less of a busted mess? No? Fuck you then RWS

Maybe in the next 20 years worth of updates it will work better?

But then again, Postal 4 clearly lacks the edge of 2 and I doubt patches will fix that. I guess it always could have been worse.

At least it's not the new Saints Row...?

It just really pisses me off, they charged 30$ fo an EA game and then barely fixed shit upon release.
