Why does it seem that this story keeps popping up and teasing us that the solution we deserve in 2020 is just always a hop skip and jump away in outer space? Why can’t we just get this over with and see if the wiping out the dinosaur theory is correct for cripes sake?

For what seems to be the umpteenth in the dumpster fire of the year 2020, we now are being told by world-renowned scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson, that we have a meteorite rushing towards Earth and could make it here just in time for the U.S. election. No word yet on if the Democrats will allow it to register to vote.

From Fox News

An asteroid with a diameter the size of a refrigerator could strike the Earth the day before the November election, according to celebrity scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson — but it’s not large enough to do any serious damage.
The famed astrophysicist said the space rock, known as 2018VP1, is hurtling towards Earth at a speed of 25,000 miles per hour and may clip the planet on Nov. 2.
But he added that the flying object is nothing to lose sleep over since “it’s not big enough to cause harm.”
HOLD UP. You are telling me that a refrigerator traveling at 25,000 miles per hour is not big enough or moving fast enough to cause harm? Someone watched too many Road Runner cartoons and took that stuff literally. I’m pretty sure a fridge traveling at 25 mph is gonna cause some damage and I don’t want to be the one it hits.

Luckily NASA has computed that this hunk of rock has less than a 1% chance of hitting the Earth which gives us about the same odds of dying from COVID-19 as this mini fridge doinking us on the noggin with our masks on while sitting outside.

We just can’t catch a break it seems. Maybe next year.

Just what we needed.

The real question is how can Trump stop this or how is he responsible?

An asteroid could possibly strike us right now, so who gives a shit?

Cant wait until the government forces us to wear protective asteroid gear for "personal safety". You dont want to kill granny, do you?

And dont worry, there is always Yellowstone erupting and leading the entire globe into the next ice age.

Honestly please, I hope it hits, I'm tired of the current year of 2020 I just want the sweet release of humanity's collective death, please, I am begging on my hands and knees, kneeling, please hit earth

'His space force is a total failure because it couldn't keep a small bit of space junk from vaporizing in the already polluted atmosphere in violation of the Paris accords.'-Media in two weeks
"I knew about this asteroid before the scientists did. It's a big meteor. I should know. Our Space Force is working tirelessly, my Space Force, it's a great force. To stop this Communist asteroid from destroying our American foundation."

Nope.
He was an adult when the space weapons treaty was signed, he would at least include a shot at the UN.

The pessimism and despair is reaching seasonal highs. I would say to expect prayers for a Rapture by God, but I think Covid triggered that prematurely.

Asteroids dont work like they do in the movies, even a decently sized wouldnt cause apocalyptic damage to the planet (it could cause a huge mess and level entire cities but again, nothing humanity wiping).
Unless its the size of Kenya, an asteroid would be too "wasted" by the atmosphire to truly cause the damage you are asking for.

That's what's kinda terrifying about them though. You need to account for size, angle of asteroid, angle it will hit, where it will his, speed - just a lot of variables.

We're supposed to get buzzed by some big'uns late this decade and sometime in the 2030s. They're supposed to miss the metaphorical "keyhole", but yeah, we don't know at this point.
