This started because I received feedback from multiple users that they prefer to post in fucking retarded DM chains specifically because they don't want negative feedback on their posts. They have been discouraged from using this webforum as a forum because they do not feel safe to post as a result of these incessant notifications and looming persistent scorecard ratings. That is FUCKING STUPID. That means the site is broken and is fundamentally failing to encourage people to use it. It means that the reaction system, which exists to provide feedback on individual posts, is having a chilling effect on the entire site.

I am not undoing this. I am observing genuine psychological damage inflicted on people.

I mean, Null (since I know you are probably reading this), this wont really ruin the site but it causes some needless hostility.

I don't give a shit. If something has to be done because it's affecting the site negatively but will piss people off it needs to be done sooner rather than later.

Well, the site users did just raise over $100,000 for his legal defense fund. Now, of course, this was done freely and does not suggest the site users have any ownership or say in its leadership.

That said, that money could only have been raised due to love of the site and the userbase's good will toward Null. Null's decision made the site a little less loveable for most users and he reacted in a way that tarnished much of the good will the userbase had toward him.

This isn't the end of the site by any means (or Null, we'll get over it) but it's not unreasonable to say it's a bad look. He was always a sperg, sure, but that isn't mutually exclusive with being a good leader, as he's demonstrated his capacity to be many times over the years. It's a bad look for those who love the site, which is a much more important group than sponsors.

He can insult users all he wants, but refusing to compromise or set aside his sperg moments when triggered is a concerning thing when he has zero oversight and ultimate authority.

This notification business is whatever, but, the fact he's this stubborn about a line of code could very well be a precursor to even more controversial decisions.

So it’s probably best if we don’t bring up the legislation cash in this discourse. I’m also hoping that if we wait till the end of his vacation we can re-bring up this topic (stickers not the fund) with anyone who’s involved with the debate. He did say that he wanted at least a month to test the new system and I can respect that. I’m hoping he will be a bit more open to the discussion once he’s back as long as people don’t get mati or bring up the funds as a checkmate.

I fully agree that it'd be a Karen move to hold donations over his head when he has a legitimate court case to worry about.

That said, I don't see Null really changing his mind, especially when he can use any arbitrary metric for the site to claim he was right about everything. He'd probably call everyone a faggot again and laugh at this thread on his stream.

I just wish Null was amenable and willing to hear people out to reach a compromise. That unflinching, unyielding, resolve is what kept the site alive for this long, an admirable trait, but it's easily a negative, too.

I actually agree, but I think it's worth pointing out in the context of him proceeding to declare jihad against his userbase over an ultimately trivial thing not long after said funding.

I very much relate to this, actually. I've made at least one retarded post on here that was immediately swarmed with negative ratings and replies from my haters and losers accusing me (baselessly, of course) of being a retard. This experience seriously made me re-evaluate my position and taught me to be a little more critical in how I word and structure my posts so I'm not making a fool of myself. It was also a good lesson in not presenting an idea to the world without something to back it up. And you're absolutely right about needing be able to discern what criticism to accept and what criticism to ignore.

That's what this site is all about. It really is analogous to the cows we document. They post their idiocy publicly for the world to see and we mock them for it. It's simple cause and effect that should ultimately be a learning experience for the cows to be a little more guarded and self-critical. They never learn, and instead devolve into histrionics about how we negatively affect their mental health. That sounds familiar.

These posters who complain about negative ratings really shouldn't be on a site like this if they can't handle criticism when publicly posting something. It is literally what the site is all about. It's downright bizarre to see Null bloviating on the damage to mental health done by "Autistic" and "Dumb" stickers when he has to actively fight for the right of a community to psychoanalyze and dissect people's lives without their consent.

Nobody is forcing anyone to donate to anything, you decided to send a stranger over the internet money. To use one of our autistic leader's sayings "I owe you nothing".

Edit: It was even more retarded, OnA weens wanted to involve the IRS to fuck with Rick, some users here liked the idea, Null came in the thread and said the IRS is the devil (not untrue) and things spiraled from there.
