This thing has been making the rounds on social media, and I'm just confused as to what kind of system it is. Perhaps reading this official article for this thing would help.
"The Web 3 space is expanding and there are many games that are being built for Web 3."
[citation needed]
"But as of today, there are more people that play on the console than on the PC, and most Web 3 games are only available on the PC."
PC gaming is far more relevant nowadays than its ever been, and there's still very little interest in bringing this Web 3 stuff into that platform of gaming (other than what Big Tech companies like Meta/Facebook are trying to push)
"Polium is building the world’s first multi-chain gaming console. The console will be built by the community. It will be capable of running games that are built on different blockchains. Users will be able to play games that are on ImmutableX, Solana, Ethereum, Polygon, BNB, EOS, Wax, and Harmony without needing to switch networks."
I have to admit, I'm incredibly out of the loop regarding these blockchain/cryptocurrency stuff, so I have little to no knowledge on what any of these are.
"The console will be powerful enough to run high-performance games and will be easy to use for a traditional gamer who doesn’t understand Web 3. Not only will this solve a problem but it will also bring mass adoption into the Web 3 space."
Lol, is it really a problem that gamers aren't able to access Web 3 services? Also, this just sounds like yet another microconsole with gaming PC specs. What specs it exactly has hopefully we'll get into... hopefully.
Anyway, first pic of this thing:

Yeah, as I said, microconsole. Generic PlayStation-esque controller on top of what could be any other mini PC. The GUI looks just as bland and generic, like any other run of the mill micro gaming platform.
"The Polium One controller will have a Fingerprint scanner for an added layer of security. Users will be required to scan their Fingerprint when making transactions and after the console is powered on. The controller will have a wallet button so that users can quickly make trades while in a game."
I have no comment, here's some controller pics, and as I said, generic PlayStation-esque controller:

"The Marketplace app will be an app on the console where users can Buy & Trade Non-Game and In-Game NFTs."
So basically glorified microtransactions and DLCs. Is it not enough to purchase NFTs from places like OpenSea or what not? Marketplace pics:

"The console will have a Light & Dark Mode feature."
Lol, way to go!

"The console will have its own multi-chain wallet for trading, swapping, staking, and receiving cryptocurrency."
Pic of said wallet. Again, why not just do this stuff on Coinbase or whatever?

"Users will be able to discover and play Games, Metaverses, and Apps that are published on the Polium Store."
At this point, just download Steam or something on your PC, it can do almost all of this just fine, you don't need a microconsole to do all this. Pic:

"We want to build a console where winning and losing count so we came up with the idea to combine all compatible games into 1 leaderboard. Players will move up the leaderboard by winning, earning trophies, and voting on proposals. The more you win the more you earn. Not only will this make gaming more competitive and fun, but it will also keep users engaged with the console."
This just sounds incredibly convoluted, I don't know how to explain it. Pic of leaderboard, which makes this thing look even more confusing:

"The estimated release date is Q3 2024."
Press X to doubt
"We are currently developing the hardware for the console."
Press X to really doubt
"The hardware will be custom and the CPU/GPU will be provided by NVIDIA."
So, it's not completely custom, am I getting this right?
"We will provide more information on the specifications later this year."
Why not right now? I like hardware specifications.
"We will build the software on top of Linux."
Lmao, so it's not going to be completely custom. Again, just get a PC if you want to use a Linux gaming machine.
"We will take pre-orders before the console’s hardware is completely built. This will help us gather customer feedback, ideas, and validation. You will be able to pre-order the console by minting or purchasing a Polium Pass. Once the console is released, holders can claim their console by burning their Pass. The Polium Pass will be a collection on the Ethereum Network. The pass will grant you access to the PFP airdrop, staking rewards, and launch events in Japan, the UK, and the US. 10,000 Polium One consoles will be released to the holders & partners. In Q3 2025 we will manufacture more units for the public. We aim to sell over 1 million units. More information regarding the mint date and the price will be announced on Discord and on Twitter."
TL;DR this "Polium Pass" thing is the preordering system for this microconsole. I really doubt they'll be releasing this by 2025, and 1 million units is extremely optimistic, let alone even getting more than maybe a dozen systems out there in this timeframe.
"The community will help us build the console’s hardware and software. We will have a channel on Discord for the community to share their ideas and vote on the features they would like to see on the console."
My X button is wearing out.
"The Web 3 Gaming market size will continue to increase."
No it won't.
"We are building for the future, not for tomorrow. Polium wants to bridge the gap between Web 3 and traditional gaming."
My X button has broken.
"Building an affordable and easy-to-use console for Web 3 gaming is the first major step toward mainstream adoption."
Stop it!

TL;DR if you want to have a system to play vidya or buy crypto or whatever, just buy a computer. There's no need to develop a microconsole that can do what any PC can already do. Anyway, I have doubts this thing will ever see the light of day outside of maybe a few prototypes, and it will be lost to history as far as gaming is concerned.
