Okay, looking at these games... Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl look really good in 3D. In the overworld, they've clearly leaned heavily on Link's Awakening's aesthetic.

Then there's the other big one, Pokemon Legends Arceus. You can definitely spot this rough around the edges, like that 10 FPS chingling, like the team isn't exactly experts at super big open worlds, but there's clearly an aesthetic here.

I'm definitely intrigued, these games look interesting.
Yeah, I also thought the D/P remakes looked a lot like the Link's Awakening remake. It's not done by GF so maybe it'll actually be good. Legends could be kind of promising, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for either of them. They aren't done yet and they're still way ahead of what SwSh was.

Personally I don't give a fuck what the games look like - are they actually going to be finished and fun? That's the real test.

Well they did it, they made two games based on sinnoh, one is a Remake made by a capable and promising third-party ILCA and a overly experimental and lackluster Pokemon Legends Arceus
the safe option to pick would be the remake
I'm not sure whether this is better or worse than what hoenn fags got, I mean on one hand we basically are getting Gen 4-2 but on the other it might suck, peak monkey's paw

Honestly having the two games is probably the best path forward for the series. Let's Go did a better job bringing the old series' style onto the Switch than Sword and Shield did and SS always felt like they wanted to do something different but were forced back to traditional Pokemon gameplay.

As for Legends, I like what little we've seen so far. Interesting setting, catching Pokemon without fighting them but you still have wild battles, and pretty good feudal redesigns of Dawn and Lucas for the main characters. I can forgive a little jank in what amounts to a teaser trailer for a game that's over a year out. They are also baiting me by picking what are probably my favorite starters for each type in a single game.

Outsourcing one of the mainline games is probably a good idea honestly. Bringing in outside studios is long overdue if they want to put out Pokemon games like they have been. Rotating studios is how every other AAA studio handles yearly releases and as long as you have competent leadership to guide the direction, like Masuda is for BDSP, it can work.

I don't get why they decided to choose scrambled up starters for Pokémon Legends. They could've gone another route, like say, give regular Pokémon the starter role rather than rehashing starters.

Maybe something like say, a selection between Machop, Ralts, or Aron. Since Fighting, Fairy, and Steel have that same dynamic (Fighting beats Steel, Fairy beats Fighting, and Steel beats Fairy) and it'd surely shake up the formula a little. All three have a 3-stage evolutionary line with Ralts diverging between Gardevoir and Gallade (albeit it loses the fairy typing), and could fit the role as a starter Pokémon pretty well.

Alternatively, if they wanted to keep the formula of "grass, water, fire", then Budew, Magby, and Azurill could've worked as well (granted, Azurill is normal type, but it should've been water to begin with)

TemTem did something similar, but the way it was executed was rather poor. I would've loved to see something like this in Legends, and they had the perfect opportunity to.

It looks like it's a true remake rather then oras. The bigger question is what they will take from plat. But the quality will be that of gen 4, with new graphics and faster running speed.

Please GF get level 5 to develop a pokemon game that would be so fucking good

Nah man they will recreate chancy's HP going down slowly and you will like it!!!

1: In lore, people are still just settling in to the sinnoh region. It makes sense that the Pokemon for explorers are imports.
2: It lets games that might not get a remake for a few years at least get a reference, and seperates it from the other dp games coming out at nearly the same time.
3: It lets them mix things up a bit without disrupting the formula. you're asking for an alternate type trio because you know the games and the systems extremely well. The fire/water/grass trio explains itself, has extremely distinct colour themes, and is very approachable for newbies.

1. Imports make sense, yes, but at the same time, these imports could've been anything else. Why specifically those three Pokémon? At least it isn't Kanto pandering again by forcing us to choose Charmander, though.
2. I guess you have a point there.
3. I'm pretty sure Legends wasn't explicitly advertised towards newbies. That would be Let's Go.

Porygon-Z is in the trailer. Wasn't he exclusive to Platinum?
Well OBVIOUSLY theyll have all the pokemon in there... right? Also no all the gen 4 evos are available in platnium iirc. Only exclusive stuff on the pokemon side are origin form giritina and sky form shayman.

Oh god seeing twitter's reaction to Legends has been hilarious/Cathartic with everyone saying "WTF WHY WASN'T SWSH LIKE THIS" I'm just surprised it's only one game instead of having two versions

Don't forget the Rotom forms, tho I have a feeling that they will give rotom 25 new ones because of his recent shilling

Because, along with the "fire, water and grass" match up being approachable for newbies, in world the starter pokemon are the more rare pokemon you can find (hence why you usually can only find the other starter pokemon in the post-game). If the professor just gave you a pokemon you can easily find in the wild, it would defeat the purpose of them being a starter pokemon.

Yes, but people can jump into the games at any entry. Let's go was just overcompensating for the newbies.

Would would actually be kino is if they added the shayman, darkrai, and Acreaus events. That would be a hyper kino.

I'm happy that they're separating the remake from the new game. I have a lot of childhood nostalgia for Gen4 so I'm happy the other studio is sticking closer to a remaster of Diamond/Pearl rather than making something different. They'll probably be overshadowed by Legends, but thats probably for the best considering the state of newfag fans.

I'm not so excited for Legends itself. It looks barebones atm. The starters are also meh for me, I would've preferred pokemon which weren't starters before. Still infinitely better than Sw/Sh's selection.

Didn't someone in the thread mention Arceus not having an official event in the original games? Because, I feel like Pokemon legends is suppose to make up for that.
There was an event in the games code where you get a flute, walk up to heaven on top of mount coronet, and battle arceaus. The flute was never officially released.

To be fair, Breath of the Wild also looked pretty barebones until the Switch launch trailer. I hope there's stuff to do in the wild.
