Of the major improvements Pokemon has had over it's lifespan removing HMs is one of the big 3, the other 2 being the Physical/Special split and TMs becoming infinite use.
I think you have named the only three improvements to Pokemon because the newest one I played on Switch is very clearly a Game Boy game with better graphics.

I’m just waiting to see how many people complain about Diamond and Pearl remakes coming, say they'll never buy it, and then be talking about gameplay from day 1.

And if you didn't think they were coming yet, the subdomain diamondpearl.pokemon.com apparently briefly appeared not too long ago.

For reference, swordshield.pokemon.com is the hub page for those games.

It is inevitable.

True but not buying it lol, thank you nvidia for making your console hackable with a damn paper clip

I'm down for it. Make the pool of Pokemon better, introduce the QOL improvements from SwSh and it's all you really need.

I see people on Twitter whine about gen 5 stans all the time but I never see any myself. Pretty much every gen 5 fan I know is super chill while the gen with the real rabid stans is 8.

The gen 8 stans are mostly normies/consumers who don't have any attachments to the series and don't relate to the issues real fans had with the game. All they care about is being part of a fad and getting attention for it on Twitter. They don't like being told gen 8 sucks because they don't want the realization that they wasted money on a mediocre product, nor do they want to look bad for buying it.

I've been happy with the entertainment I've gotten out of SwSh, considering I've accumulated 450 hours in Shield I would hope so anyway.
I would imagine that SwSh will get a patch to be compatible with the rest of the reintroduced mons, and the generation will essentially be the same as the relationship between DPP and HGSS. My only real wishlist item would be to bring back and add more mega evolutions, other than that I'm just looking forward to being able to hang with my turtle boy.

The gen 8 fanbase is also infested with sjws and fujos the worst out of all of them,
That's most likely why Gen 8's fanbase is insufferable, they're only there to suck off the POC and so-called gay rep that permeates SwSh. The flamboyant character designs made these subhumans think they were getting legit gay boys when the English scene in general is known for its flamboyant nature. Game Freak also is not going to make an openly-gay character, just camp, and camp is not always gay.

The best are the gen 4 stans who bitch about gen 5 stans despite being equally as guilty of being rabid over their favorite games and shitting on later generations. They’re especially vocal now with the possibility of gen 4 remakes around the corner.

I hate any Pokemon "stans" in general, from the Genwunners to the Gen 8's who think SwSh are flawless masterpieces. I've enjoyed every Pokemon generation since they've come out, and haven't had major issues personally with any of the games, even SwSh. I certainly recognize the issues some titles have but I still have had wholly enjoyable experiences with every one of the games.

Same, genwars are stupid as fuck but sadly it comes with the territory when you have a long running fandom where the franchise has been through multiple eras.

Also having played every generation I feel that there hasn’t been a truly irredeemably awful main line game. Even SwSh is a 6/10 at worst.

As long as you get a new region, new Pokemon and new character to interact with and fire still beats grass etc. there'll never be a truly unplayable Pokemon game. It's why there's been so many failed clones that arguably do elements of the franchise better: It's not just a brand thing, it's a format thing.

I don't know about any generation's fans, all I do know is that, judging by the 'gen 5 music hits different' videos, Gen 5 fans are insufferable when it comes to video editing.

With that said, I'd say there are four main camps of thought on Gen 8:

- The A-logs: This is where a lot of 'review' YouTubers are. They hate hate haaaaate the game, to the point it blinds their ability to critique other things, and thus fall for even worse mon games like Pokemon is an ex they're trying to get jealous. Or they're doing it for clicks. One guy I've been half aware of for a while did four hours of ranting about the game across seven videos. These are also the people that made Temtem relevant, briefly.

For better or worse, hating these games has become a major thing for them, and if the series gets unambiguously good again, they're gonna panic from lost relevance.

- The disappointed: People who can recognize SwSh's flaws, and definitely dislike the games, but they're not blindly praising anything that isn't Pokemon right now. Reactions to upcoming DP games are anywhere from muted hope to undertone of dread. They can even acknowledge that gen 8 has some good qualities while still believing it is a disappointment. I'd say most of the farms is here.

- The it's okay-ers: People who enjoy the game, and are much softer on it's flaws. Expect them to have had a passing interest in competitive and thus be very happy about being able to get Pokemon in there more easily than ever.

With that said, if you ask them what their favourite pokemon is, 9 times out of ten it's in the 400 from the initial Galar Dex. some of the biggest flaws of the generation had a muted impact on them, so they're naturally less critical of it. I'd say I'm in this category.

- The stans: these people believe gen 8 is unambiguously good and will support it through thick and thin. most of them are just horny for one or more of the character designs, or they became an anti-anti because an A-log pissed them off. Probably play it the least out of all four groups.

There are” hits differently” videos for every Pokemon game. I have been seeing more and more of them pop up lately for other gens outside of 5. Honestly gen 5 fans are no worse than the gen 3 fans making Hoenn trumpet videos. At least the videos are just people goofing off and having fun, they can be ignored and blocked. I very, very rarely have a “hits different” or a Hoenn trumpet video in my recommend youtube videos despite looking up a lot of Pokemon music from all the games.

A lot of the fans on social media who complain about being bombarded with the videos are either going out of their way to find them or don’t realize the youtube algorithm customizes their recommended videos based on what they search on. It’s like SwSh stans who obsessively stalk Distant Kingdom and watch his reviews then cry when they keep getting similar videos from other youtubers popping up in their recommended feeds. Fans don’t realize they have tools on social media at their disposal like blocking and muting to control what they see on their feeds. Nobody has self control anymore.

As for SwSh I am in between the disappointed and okay camps.

I just assume most of the Gen 8 fanboys (Not saying stan because god that word has been fucked to death) are like that Tex guy from earlier in the thread with the 26 alt accounts.

So is sucking temtem's dick the point of no return to alog-dom basically?

Now? Much more likely. At the time of release? nah, it was just the popular thing to do.

Other signs are much better indicators for lolcowdom, though, such as claiming temtem is the best and yet:

- Still using Pokemon names for types. Poison over Toxic, Fighting over Melee, Grass over Nature...
- Favorite Temtem is Platypet, the Fakemon that was brought in by a fan
- Using a pokemon as a profile picture (one of the mods, TmTrainer, did this for the longest time)
- "It's okay to not have a real endgame for the first year of the game's existence because we haven't reached the actual 'endgame' yet, which is obviously a fixed and static point in this mmo."
- Getting unreasonably pissy whenever someone suggests doing something like Pokemon

and more I'll think of later

You also have TemTem fanboys who get really mad if you think the monster designs look awful.
That's because the truth hurts. Not only are most temtem just ugly, many either suffer from a lack of identity or a lack of cohesion.

For example on the latter point, in the following spoiler are pictures of Digimon, Spectrobes, and Yo-kai, in that order. In the second spoiler are images of a single one of each one, in a random order... and I guarantee that even if you haven't played any of the games, you'll be able to figure out who is what.

With temtem, if it wasn't for the art style, they'd just lack that cohesion.

On a weird tangent I am actually glad they stopped doing Japanese regions after gen 4. Fanboys of the first four regions probably never stepped foot in Japan and get all their knowledge of Japan from anime and games, which makes those regions feel less touristy and more magical than they really are. And even still the first four regions had very different design philosophies from each other.

There is a whole thread on vp now full of people circlejerking over how much better and grittier gen 1 was despite it not even being gritty, that modern regions are souless and sanitized despite gens like 5 and 7 being arguably even darker than 1. Plus cherry picking character designs to prove Pokemon is more unrealistic now even though the examples given are supposed to be over the top, like Elesa being a fashion model. This obsession with grounded realism amongst millennials is so annoying.
