I kinda want to bring this up, like it's been something I've wondered about for a long while and playing Pokémon Puzzle Challenge has helped me draw to a conclusion Jynx' design is entirely misunderstood and that true art is incomprehensible.

So in the tragic case of Jynx, I think the species was always meant to be some kind of otherworldly being, as in the only tangible part of the body is her hair. I mean, just look at the slap animation in Stadium:
jynx_slap.gif

The hair is more like a wig than something actually coming out of her head. The hands could be her actual hands or they could be like gauntlets (much like arms) since the color's not the same as what's in the void, but they got recolored to purple suggesting that is Jynx' natural skin color. It's weird, too, as early sprites and artwork show that it's possible Jynx' arms are purposefully hidden in the hair, showing detachment.

It's also worth noting that the games canonically show she has no footprint despite an episode of the anime showing her with feet (although it's pretty much a filler episode).

Then there's the fainting animations:

A few years ago, Chuggaaconroy made a remark about this in the TheRunawayGuys' collab of Pokémon Snap in that although he didn't name the source he got the word from, it suddenly makes sense why it is Jynx looks "black". (Timestamped.)
EDIT: Also, you can see that the eyes and lips are not attached to anything.

It's really just a void where only eyes and lips can be seen. Even the rest of the body appears to be some kind of armor to protect whatever is in the void. So why does Jynx only leave behind the wig upon fainting? Where does she go where we can't follow?

Unfortunately for Game Freak, that intention wasn't fully utilized thanks to sprite limitations nor did they give any hints in the PokéDex and such that that's not Jynx' actual face, all that was focused on was that she communicates through seductive dance and a language that is almost human. It's possible the hair being more-or-less a wig was something they came up with later on to try and stave off accusations of blackface, but it was too late and it was never shown to be such in the anime.

I still think the woman who wrote the article accusing Jynx to be racist jumped the gun for taking it at face-value, but I guess to be fair, no one really understood what Jynx even was supposed to be. Game Freak not telling anyone of her origins in the design department to leave it up for mass speculation didn't help.

Really is too bad that whatever they were going for with Jynx has been thrown out the window. Could've been a neat little mystery for fans to speculate on like with Tangela in wondering what it looks like under all those vines.

My God has all these rumors about DP remakes brought all the insufferable Sinnoh stans out of the woodwork. Am I the only one who thinks Mt. Coronet was a horribly designed area? It isn’t an epic or challenging place to explore, it is tedious and boring. Yet fans like to confuse badly designed tedious dungeons with actual challenge. I remember back in the day nobody liked Mt. Coronet, it seems all the fans praising it are those who started the series with the games.

Also I love how VP trashes the shit out of gen v for being the downfall of Pokemon yet whenever a tier list thread comes out BW and BW2 are on the top of most lists. I recently replayed the games and honestly Unova isn’t a badly designed region. It is linear and has some questionable design choices like the route 4 desert but it isn’t anything deal breaking. I wonder if there is a way to fix Unova’s linearity without sacrificing the story.

Don't forget Gen IV's HM bloat requiring two entire Pokemon as HM slaves just to finish the game. If the newer games got one thing right it's deleting that shit from the game forever.

The problem is that the recent games have cause game freak to go the complete opposite direction to where they are forgettable straight as a rail gun. HMs gave you at least abit of progression that have only been replicated with the pokeride stuff in gen 7. It's not perfect but again at least I remember it unlike any other area gen 6+, tho again I am a sinnoh fetus so take that as you will.

The thing is, in comparison to the newer games, Unova isn't even that linear theres hidden side shit out the ass in BW2 at least, the amount of optional stuff in BW2 unova already made it much less linear than BW was
Also I wouldn't say Gen 5 is the "downfall of pokermang" or whatever, but I do think alot of the newer game's issues are them taking design decisions that worked in gen 5, not understanding what made it work there, and somehow making the flaws of that design much more apparent by being in a much worse overall package

I just find it weird they made a prefect replacement with pokerides, only to remove it the next generation and leave the only traversal upgrade to the bike. Make that shit key items or something IDK anything to make the wild area feel less like a barren wasteland

The good music in the upper levels of Mt. Coronet helps to at least salvage it.

We're lucky that they didn't decide to make Flash an HM again. Imagine 9 HMs...

I would be okay with Sword and Shield's trash visuals if I could keep playing in other regions after I finished the main quest. Let me catch them all and get all the badges. Then I can settle down with Officer Jenny and have some hot coffee.

For the remakes they should make HMs separate abilities from attacks that don't take up a moveslot, but keep the option to let them do that since surf and waterfall are kinda essential. Then they could go nuts on HMs and nobody would care. You wouldn't need HM slaves anymore because your main mons could cut down trees and move rocks around without ruining a moveslot. If they just give you a superbike that can climb mountains and shit it would be pretty boring.

I don't expect anything like that though. They're gonna take the easiest route they can and make a plain version of Diamond and Pearl with none of the Platinum bonuses and less content than the original releases. Maaaaaybe they'll simplify the caves and routes to be more like the caves in Sword and Shield since japanese kids complained about that back in the day, but they wont add or improve anything. I'd love to be proven wrong but I'm not holding my breath.

Or they'll put in the Platinum content as extra DLC for $30 more.

I'm sitting this one out after the last games. I'm fully expecting another half-finished, obvious 3DS port rush job because they set such unrealistic deadlines of a big release every year. GameFreak really has some egg on their face about the terrible appearance of SwSh after the Pokemon Snap trailer, but it doesn't matter. The real moneymaker is all the license deals on merch, not really the games themselves.

The real bummer is that I uninstalled Shield a while ago. There's no replay value especially when my 3DS still works just fine.
I mean there's always playing endless competitive matches but again, if the game feels you with such a meh feeling why would you want to put time into competitive for it

I do not want a d/p remake. Sw/Sh were not good and I don’t know why people think the company will change in a year...

Also with how bad they ruined hoenn with omega ruby/alpha sapphire, I have no hopes for anything good. It’ll be watered down garbage. The only thing I guess that’s cool is that there will be a ton of gen 4 merch? Give some love to stunky </3

I'm looking forward to Diamond/Pearl remakes. ORAS was the best Pokemon game on the 3DS despite it's flaws and shortcomings regarding Emerald content, and that was after X and Y which is worse than Sword and Shield as far as I'm concerned. I'm also in the Stunky stan gang though. One of my favorite Pokemon and I look forward to fighting a ton of them on Plasma grunts.

ORAS compared to r/s were definitely a step backwards. They practically held your hand during the entire game. I don’t remember any Pokémon fainting though the entire game....

I get it’s for children and maybe I was just a dumb child back when I played r/s but I don’t remember everything being shoved down my throat constantly.

Regardless everyone has their own opinions but god GF definitely needs to get their act together and really try with these remakes lmao. They have their full team this time so hopefully it’ll be better.

I think the remakes will be passable, but they'll probably take out the battle frontier.

For me, the one they're going to actively fuck up and completely destroy is going to be BW/B2W. Best case scenario we get b2w2 as dlc a year later or they mash it together. Any moves they make to streamline will lead to pissed off fans.

Oh I really really do not want b/w remakes.... they should stop after d/p ☠️

If I recall correctly, Jynx is mostly supposed to be based on the Nordic goddess Hel. This is why she is an Ice/Psychic type, and looks like a Viking. If the thing about her skin not being black and is just supposed to be a void is true, then that really is disappointing that it had to be changed. I do understand why, though. GameFreak was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If anything, then changing her skin to purple at least fits the Ice theme because it makes her look like she has frostbite. Still, it sucks that such an interesting concept had to be done away with.

Diamond/Pearl getting remakes means Mindy is going to return and knowing how much gamefreak loves to double down on stupid they probably will make her worse.
The Haunter will evolve this time, but even though the resentment from the original everstone debacle should be gone, it isn't...

I like the idea of Mt. Coronet because having this gigantic mountain with several entrances in the middle of the map you have to constantly travel through is neat. But then you're making me carry around a team that has to have rock smash, rock climb, strength, defog, waterfall and surf(6 out of 8 HM's woo) to get around so now I'm just annoyed at carrying around a bunch of moves I don't want to have, sans the water moves. I don't mind the cave being complex, but don't knock my 6 man team down to 4 to traverse efficiently.

Of the major improvements Pokemon has had over it's lifespan removing HMs is one of the big 3, the other 2 being the Physical/Special split and TMs becoming infinite use.
