The dialog in ORAS seems to say that the Battle Frontier is planned in the future. I'm also wondering why they couldn't just make Battle Frontier in ORAS instead of just the Battle Resort.

oh
I decided to look it up... There isn't even a Battle Tower. They just copypasted some house from XY.

This shit implies they'd probably add it like in some update but they didn't. wtf

I didn't play anything past Black and White, but from what I understand, the biggest fucking letdown and most criticized laziness of ORAS was its lack of a Battle Frontier, right?

I was pissed ORAS didn't include it because I was most looking forward to the Battle Frontier since I didn't have Emerald. Had a better post-game than X/Y in which there was literally fucking nothing, but I still finished that game feeling there was something missing, maybe feeling a bit empty inside, and it wasn't just the Battle Frontier.

Genuine laziness. The Battle Chatelaines even return, instead of using other or even original characters.

Also, IIRC, there's a talent scout in the Battle Maison that hints at looking for Frontier Brains. Plus there's a delinquent girl NPC that mentions her Seviper in the same area, leading to some theories that it may be Lucy. Too bad it couldn't have been her, even as a bonus boss or something...

I keep hearing the term "Karen" thrown about on KF.

But because I don't really keep up with "Current Year" slang, I'm like "isn't she the dark type Elite Four member from (H)G/(S)S"?
When people say "karen," what they mean is "cunt."

Pokemon Unite seems fun in the context of a time limit and points over kills, it's what makes Splatoon work and it's the kind of maps other MOBAs have been deleting over the years, like LoL's Dominion.

I think the biggest problem with Unite will probably be that the game will be dumbed down so kids can play and understand it. Especially when they're developing for both Switch and mobile, they're probably going to not have as much customization as LoL and the gameplay will also be toned down to fit it for the mobile scene.

My guess is if they focus more on a time limit and the matches don't go as long as LoL it'll at best be a quick inbetween game when you're on the toilet or something. Though with tencent that liberty may come at the cost of microtransactions or something

To some extent Unite getting it's own slot makes sense, not for us or any other country that isn't china but for gamefreak and for china. It's the first game where they are collaborating with the Chinese government and they probably separated it to make it looks special to said government. Not just a way to drum up interest in a shitty MOBA but to make the Chinese government feel like game freak is confident in them.

it isn't like Mega-evolution helped Beedrill.

Mega-Bedrill has a stat pool shallower than most good non Megas (495, which is less than most 3rd stages of Starters) and Bug is a shit type to be honest. Butterfree's Typing is even more unfortunate. It is weak to..basically all the good offensive typings(with 4X weakness to Stealth Rock, which is almost a no-go on it's own) and..offense has been the name of the pokemon game since weather got nerfed.

Not to mention and extreme speed or a bullet punch would kill it instantly, the thing had almost no defense.

It helped it quite a bit, really. While it is not top-tier, it still is a significant improvement on the base Pokemon. If you look at Mega Beedrill and what they did, this is pretty much the best they could do from following the basic rules of Mega Evolution. Mega Evolution increases the Pokemon's BST by 100, the only exception is Mega Alakazam in Gen VI(at 90) but that was clearly an error since it was fixed in Gen VII, they probably designed Mega Alakazam's stats before they decided to give a +10 boost to its base form's Special Defense.

With such a low BST as what base Beedrill has, the main thing they did is put all of the +100 base stats into Attack and Speed. Furthermore, while some Megas get a speed drop to put more into other stats, they instead did this with its Special Attack, and rather than the -10 penalty of most of the speed drops, they did -30 to it and put that in for more Attack and Speed. Finally, since its offensive boosts still wasn't enough, they gave it Adaptability to boost is STAB moves further.

Outside of giving it Huge/Pure Power as an ability or draining its Defense and Special Defense for more Attack and Speed, this is really the best Beedrill could ask for with Game Freak's self-imposed limitations. And even putting it alongside most other megas, it was heavily Min-maxed. All of the XY Megas and most of the ORAS Megas had spread-out or sometimes useless stat buffs, but they didn't do anything like that for Mega Beedrill. The only other mega to do that is Mega Slowbro, who only got Special Attack and Defense buffs.

Yes you can upgrade Bedrill to be less shit, it got everything it could have wanted out of Mega-evolution and it was still incredibly mediocre.

It's move set is still not fantastic, and it's typing leaves much to be desired.

Not a fan of the Europe-based regions then?

(why don't you like Galar and Kalos?)
What you said - I just don't like Europe-based regions.

I live in Britfagistan, so I'd rather have some escapism instead of something which reminds me of the rain-soaked rock I actually live on. Galar also feels small, empty and plasticky and I just don't like the atmos there. It's difficult to my finger on exactly what's wrong with it, but it just feels off. It does have its moments though - some of the towns are quite nice.

Although it's easy, Kalos felt like a slog to get through and I didn't find it very interesting. Give me sun, sea and sand over dreary European countryside any day.

So I take it you like Hoenn*?

Also what is "slog"?

*(my favorite region)
Yup, I'm a Hoennfag. It was my first region, so it holds a special place in my heart. Although Sinnoh is actually my favourite region.

Slog is a Britfag word for something that feels dull and hard work. Like I said, with Kalos this didn't come from the difficulty, but rather the fact the region's so damn vast and yet most of the towns and routes are drab and depressing.

If we gonna talk about our first pokeman games, I might as well share what my first one was.

Yellow Version. Being a stupid child having no idea what anything really was I caught a Pidgey, and only used that one pokemon FOR THE REST OF THE GAME. Ended up with like level 90 pidgey and a bunch of level 20-30 Pokemon I caught a while back I never used.
