Seeing Chugga struggle against Rayquaza in Rescue team DX makes me wonder what I used on my first playthrough in the original game. I remember resetting the main character quiz for the playable eevee but I don't quite recall what I chose as a partner. Might've been Cyndaquil cause I still like that starter the most from the Gen 1-3 lineup. I wonder if I just cheesed it with attract back in the day cause if you don't it seems like he's just going to spam twister and fuck your shit up. Though the old fight also seems easier cause it didn't have the terrain gust mechanic that teleports your teammates.
I played as Torchic with my partners being Bulbasaur and Magnemite. Let me tell you, paralysis was a real goat in that fight.

Yeah, I think what saved him in the end was the lucky few turns where the paralysis from Treecko's dragon breath and the confusion from Magnemite's signal beam kicked in. As a sidenote, I'm getting an itch now to play another mystery dungeon game. I was satisfied enough with what I played from my original blue rescue team and explorers of sky copies but I may consider playing one of the 3DS entries. I'm not actually familiar with gates to infinity or super, through, so I dunno if both are good or if one is considered less worthy of playing.

Yeah, iirc had a fire and grass one too all those years ago, and magnemite was essential towards the end for the underlevelled fellas.

Anybody who bought the DLC could you rate your gaming experience for the class?

I've been playing the Isle of Armor DLC for Sword when I don't feel like unpacking boxes. It's definitely solid so far; it alone isn't enough to justify the price, but, fortunately, with the Crown Tundra later this year, it should be IMO.

The Anime, Manga, and Games are all completely separate continuities, though. By the time Agatha appears in Pokespecial, the manga went pretty off the rails from the games, the quote of Satoshi Tajiri saying the manga was the closest to his vision of how the Pokemon world worked was made really really early on in the series' life, before it got very different from the games(which happened sooner than most realize), and the fiddly details of both the anime and the manga don't need complete input from Game Freak.

You can pretty much disregard any backstory details from one continuity for a character in any other.
Oh snap, I knew about Tajiri’s comment about Adventures, but I didn’t know it was so early on during its serialization. I kinda always took it as the “canon” game story as a kid.

I like the lore they add on the trainer cards. Mustard beat Opal to become champion, and was the old fighting type gym leader. What a chad.

Cutting an Arbok in half complete with Pokémon zombies being the canon game story is fucking boss, so I like to pretend everything up to Lavender Town is what Tajiri had in mind, and the rest is just Red's comatose dream. :^)

Does Bea have any role in the DLC? I get she's a version exclusive character, but you'd think the Fighting-Type gym leader would have some kind of role or at least a mention with the dojo setting.
Bea practices karate, Mustard practices wushu(hence kubfu is the wushu pokemon.)

I had a non terrible thought. Mustard used to be the champion for 18 years before he quit. But he beat the Fairy Type champion before him... Was Opal a champion in her 70+ years as a gym leader?
The card just says that he beat the fairy type leader to become champion. Which could also imply that there was no one holding the mantle when Mustard took it.

If I'm remembering XY correctly, wasn't the Fairy-type discussed as being "recently discovered"? If so, how could a Fairy-type leader exist several decades prior?

Recently discovered is a vague statement. There are some who would consider things from the 50s to be recent discoveries.

The same thing happened with Dark/Steel, they are only called recently discovered in their debut gen, but are treated as if they were always there in generations afterwards. The statements themselves in Gens II and VI are merely there to tell the players that it's a new type.

It was like this with the entire Johto Dex. IIRC, Professor Oak says something like, "We just discovered 100 new Pokemon!" which is just a way to say, "Here kids, there's more monsters to collect." and not, "WOW! I just discovered that owls and ladybugs exist!!"

So how do you guys feel about Isle of Armor?

I like it, the new Wild Area alone is a huge plus, but I really wish they had actually incorporated more story/plot and gameplay. The plot is extremely barebones and you can finish it in one sitting. Then again, that's pretty consistent with the "story" of the main Sword/Shield game

I've been playing it in short bursts. The forest area was kind of nice, but the rest of the island feels quite bland and not too different from the Wild Area on the mainland. I haven't finished it yet, but so far it's just been a series of fetch quests broken up by the odd battle, so I hope it picks up soon.

Honestly, it's disapointing for the price, not to mention how little there is to do after the 2 hour story. They did a much better job with the wild area and the wild Pokemon, and having a canon lv 75 battle is pretty cool. Pokemon following you is always cool but that should be extended to the main region and not limited to the island. It kind of feels like ultra-sun and ultra-moon where if this was included in the base game it be great but the fact that it's DLC feels insulting. It's more like a bonus map that doesn't add much to the game. Kubfoo is cute though.
