For catching in raids, repeat ball is my go-to choice. Just make sure you've caught one of that species before the fight and you'll have a huge boost to catch rate.

Do note that if you're going to try to trade them after, though, people hate repeat balls. I've had trades rejected by other people for good (5-6IV and shiny) mons because I caught them in a repeat ball.

Why? Why do some people hate them so much? It's great for when you're shiny hunting if you ask me.

Ball is a surprisingly big part of the trading meta. Gotta have a good opening animation, after all.
Particularly Beast Balls and Master Balls. In the former case, because when you host a normal raid you have a guaranteed catch rate, they’re very popular.

People don't like them because they're not "pretty" or "rare" enough. Some people get positively autistic about the kind of ball you catch a pokemon in ever since it started showing up in their status. Here is most people's Ball Power Rankings:

Apriballs (moon, heavy, love, beast, etc)
special balls (net, dusk, nest)
premier balls
pokeballs
great + ultra
repeat balls

Personally, I don't care. But I know that if I shove a togekiss in a moon ball, someone will want it more than the exact same one in a different ball.

Balltism is serious among those people. It's mostly due to the balls' colours matching the Pokémon, like Lapras with Dive Ball, some pink Pokémon with Heal or Dream Ball, etc.. Repeat Balls would only be good for these people if it matched a Pokémon's colours. Funnily enough Falinks, a rather popular Pokémon this gen, matches it perfectly.

Don't forget Safari Balls(Last traditional Safari Zone that used them was HGSS) and the even rarer Sport Balls(Only available in HGSS, and only on a few Bug types, some of which are permanently miss-able in a save file due to the post game changing out some of the Pokemon to add Gen III and IV bugs). Though last I checked using Pokemon those, even ones bred within gen VIII, are bugged a bit in term of being allowed online or being traded

ahem, excuse me, it's about the aesthetics, okay. master balls are ugly and it pains me that i caught a good pokemon with one (by accident)

catching every pokemon in a normal pokeball is just -chefs kiss- all other balls are inferior tbh (except premier for shinies)

:autistic:

They should add shiny pokeballs, where randomly the pokeballs you throw will have inverted colors. Completely random.
That's my exceptional individual idea for the day.
Y'know speaking of random pokeball events, how many people here are aware of that rare occurance where your pokeball has a higher chance of catching a pokemon than it normally would?

You mean Critical Captures, which were first introduced in Black and White. If anyone remembers, Pokeballs normally shake three times before the Pokemon is caught, correct? Well, each of those shakes and the final click are separate calculations from the game calculating if you caught it or not, and it can fail at any of those four points. Critical Captures happen when the Pokeball shudders suddenly mid-throw, and instead of making 3 shakes, it only makes one. While this increases the chance of the Pokeball working, it is still not a 100% catch rate. In Sword and Shield, they introduce a key item that increases the chance of Critical Captures.

They won't do it because they're a way of determining "legality" but one QoL change I'd love is some kind of item/NPC service where you can change a mon's ball into any of the other designs you want. Like say if you want your Grooky in a Friend Ball instead of the plain one, you can use something like a spray can item to change the colors to the FB design.

I've been playing Crystal lately since I took my cart to a game store to repair the save battery. This was my only 2nd Gen cart where I found a Shiny beyond the Red Gyarados. I will never forget that airplane ride where I found a beautiful, purple, green-eyed Butterfree on the Bug Catching Contest. I placed 3rd in the Contest, but how could I not be satisfied? I named him "Sparkle" and my only complaint was that it wasnt female.

Well, last night on this new Save Battery, I ran into a Shiny Weepinbell. The alternate colours are kinda boring, but guess this means my Gloom is gonna end up as a Bellossom so i dont use up one of the only Leaf Stones in the game.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=w8k-zoUzGqkI am absolutely positive that Mankey's Stadium cry is a stock sound effect that I've heard in countless other video games and movies and whatnot. It seems like they simply used the simian equivalent of the Wilhelm scream for it.

Pidgeotto I think has a stock cry going for it as well, possibly also Zapdos. Muk sounds like Giant Robo lmao.

I've always liked Hitmonlee and Articuno's Stadium cries, the latter especially in the Gym Castle run because the cry fits perfectly with the acoustics.

In Gold and Silver there may have been only a limited number of each non-Sun/Moon Evolutionary Stone, But in Crystal there are phone numbers you can get where the trainers hand you out the 4 elelmental stones occasionally. Gina the Picknicker, who is found south of Goldenrod City, hands out Leaf Stones. If you want Stones fast, go back to Newbark Town and make your mother constantly shift between Daylight Savings Time, you will almost always get a phonecall from someone in your contact list, just keep doing it until Gina wants to give you and item(which will always be Leaf Stone). You can also do the same trick for the 3 trainers that tell you when Dunsparce/Qwilfish/Yanma are swarming and any trainer you want to rebattle for whatever reason.

Near the lake of outrage, in the area where you'll find a different eeveelution every day, there are a bunch of hidden evolution stones next to those stone pillars. I could be wrong but I think that they regenerate every now and then, I think I can remember grabbing them all up on at least two separate occasions. There is a hidden stone on each pillar and I'm almost positive that one of them was a leaf stone.

He said he was playing Crystal, not Sword/Shield.
