- The people who took time off or organised their lives around being able to play today, and who are rightfully pissed and want a refund.

- People being absolutely insufferable assholes to the people who want a refund because 'it's just an early access game' - even though it costs a lot of money for early access.

Imagine being that butthurt over pokemon that you can't stand people having issues with your precious knock off.

Okay, I dread to ask, but... I'm gonna need a source on that.

God, the discord is a shitshow. It's starting to slow down, but the whole day, there's been two stances:

- The people who took time off or organised their lives around being able to play today, and who are rightfully pissed and want a refund.

- People being absolutely insufferable assholes to the people who want a refund because 'it's just an early access game' - even though it costs a lot of money for early access.

Because imagine wanting a refund for a game you literally can't play.
so in other words, I was generous when I compared TemTem to lawbreakers earlier in the thread

'Simultaneously overdesigned and underdesigned' is perhaps the best way to describe what's off with Temtem's monster design. So many of the worst ones are a mish-mash of different ideas with no core concept in the middle. And conversely, a lot of the best ones do have a core principle.

Platypet, the fakemon, looks great because he's not overdesigned and it's very clear what he's trying to be. His evolutions look so-so because they're just stretching him out.

Pigepic, the pink pig thing, is probably as popular as it is because, again, the core concept's clear. It's a flying pig.

The worst ones are things like not-popple, Sparzy, because it really doesn't look like anything. It's just a mess. With Raignet, the planning went as far as 'magnet-head' and never got any further, so they just gave it a weirdly buff body that skipped leg day.

The other one I hate is Barnshe, because it looks like one of those friggin' tiny face memes. And that face is the only thing it's really got in common with a barn owl.

It really says something when Clover, the 4Chan ROMhack based on memes and stereotypes, has 3 times as much inspiration as these generic blobs.

I'm not familiar with it, but did that team have a single artist or multiple artists for clover?

As for Temtem, the big issue for me is the lack of cohesiveness in the monsters' style.

One youtuber that I follow has been doing a lot of design work for a game he's working on, apparently made about 109 monsters so far, but only showed less than half of that - And I see that he's got a fair bit of designs that work together:

A bit weebish, but you can tell that he's got a specific style going on with the creatures.

And the same thing can apply to pokemon, even though there are clearly outset designs, you can tell that they're made by a single mind and come from a single world - Like they actually belong in the world that Pokemon created, meanwhile Temtem's creatures all look like they're aliens that came from another world, especially with the jarring human design.

I’m tempted to make a thread for Temtem redesigns because I can’t stand how bland they look

when I first saw sparzy I thought it was a fighting type because of its body shape and eye mask thing but then I saw it’s thunder markings after seeing its typing

what I also find annoying (in my opinion) about temtem’s combat system is that there’s no type weakness/advantages so you can’t really get a 2x weakness with typings.I just find it so confusing?

It has that system, I think it's just a combination of being new and most of the designs don't hint at what there typing should be.

I'm going to be the contrarian here and say I don't think TemTem looks that bad. The designs look passable to me, but they're definitely nothing special. The only thing that bothers me is that this is an 'MMO' and the MMO mechanics are just there. Also 35 dollars seems to be a lot of money. Maybe I'll wait on it to see where it goes.

They all look like knock-off Neopets rather than knock-off Pokemon.

It looks okay. None of the designs made me pay any particular attention to the game, and definitely didn't inspire me to shell out cash and put up with a buggy laggy one-server MMO that's being flooded by kids.

So apparently we've reached the point where Pokemon has been around long enough for them to start remaking the movies since Netflix is currently remaking the first one.

Netflix didn't make the remake, they only got the rights for the english release. The japanese release was last year in july. Somehow it took them a really long time to ship the movie to the west that most people already forgot about it.

yea, when I saw the designs for Tem Tem, I thought they looked a little off. Plus, Those creatures look really cute!

Hmm, you should.

I don't think there's enough there for a thread on it's own? Either we should make a TemTem thread. Or a general misshapen monster thread.
