Pokemon Prison Home, Pokemon Big Brother Sleep, and they'll try to pull a fast one by revealing old mons are coming back, only for it to just be the extra 35 that are already pre-baked into the code that we've been aware of since day 1. That will be the "update."

The actual Game Freak staff? Yes. However, they apparently had a team of 1,000+ people working on Sword and Shield.
Game Freak's weird. Basically, while other studios went through their 'oh shit it's the big time' moments in the early to mid 2000s due to the rapid increase in graphics quality on home consoles, Game Freak sequestered themselves mostly on portable consoles. So while there's some really good ideas you hear slipping out of the company (they basically have an internal Game Jam-y thing, iirc), it's sorta been on cruise control.

Nearly every spinoff game is made by a different company. Spike Chunsoft made Mystery Dungeon, Namco Bandai made Pokken, Hal Laboratory and Creatures Inc. made Rangers, Genius Sonority made the Gamecube games, etc.

Game Freak is basically having it's 'oh shit HD is a big deal now' moment about 15 years late.

that and the 3ds was really underpowered compared to the ps2, in other words, imagine a PS1 dev jumping straight into making a game on the 360 with half the dev time

And that's on top of the merciless unwavering time crunch TPC has them under. Gotta get dem new Pogeymanz out on time 'cause of da plushies and da cards.

It's like if an engineer from the Middle Ages time traveled into WWII and had to learn how to build a tank within a month's span when he's only been familiar with the trebuchet his whole life.

I'm going to remain optimistic and hope they'll surprise us this time around with something good.

Btw, has anyone in this thread tried out that "Pokemon Masters" game on mobile? I've tried it out and I'd say it's pretty decent for what it is.

If they do they will spin it as "We listened to the fans, now pay 60 bucks for what should of been in the base game gaijin"

Game Freak might as well get bought out by EA if they want to milk their fanbase.

So you mean they should've been bought out by EA when they released Japanese Blue version? Or when they decided to split the content between two versions in the first place?

Speaking of Smogon, the site recently banned Dynamaxing from all tiers except Ubers. At first, I thought this was maybe one of dumbest decisions that the competitive folks has ever done, but after doing some reading and my own experiences online, I kind of agree with the ban. The boons certain Pokemon get from it are over the top, and the outcome of battles is consistently decided by the 3 to 6 turns you and your oppenent's pokemon are dynamaxed. Definitely no reason to starve yourself and cry yourself to sleep though. Jfc lol. Unfortunate that one of the most heavily advertised aspects to the game is now banned and people are stuck with basic rules.

I gave the gen a fair chance nd was more optimistic than most, but ultimately, this gen is a disappointment for me. Probably my least favorite at this point. From both a competitive and casual perspective, this game has glaring issues for me. Lot of things I enjoyed this gen like the new Pokemon and the further streamlined breeding, but the negatives outweigh the positives for me at this point. They've definitely have to nerf dynamaxing if they decided to make SWSH 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I bet it will be some silly event for Pokemon GO and will announce a super Sword and Shield with all the pokemon to piss off everyone.

I've been predicting this for months. They've already used a select sampling of brand new mons as a selling point for subsequent games of a gen. ORAS, the newer megas, USUM, the newer Ultra Beasts. I fully expect them to stoop to that level and use old mons we've already had access to for decades and treat it like a new revolutionary feature.

Honestly I want to be optimistic about it but, I wouldn't be surprised if the direct is mostly just Pokemon go stuff some mobile game shit and a teaser of what ever the 3rd version or remake would be. Remember back then when Pokemon had non mobile game spin offs outside of pokken and the let's go games there hadn't been much spin offs on the switch compared to the other consoles/handhelds like the DS.

I've played a little bit of it when it first came out - I kept getting stuck on loading screens and the transaction system kinda made me roll my eyes.
