SWSH actually have competitive game breaking bugs, that will in turn hurt the scene of the game if not addressed soon before an Ultra version.

Shofu posted a vid on sucker punch not working due to a port priority and some other factors. Believe left side only has been debunked as false, but considering how big the move is in the meta it will cause a lot of people to reconsider competitive pokes until the issues are solved. Smogon has addressed it as well as people bonking Trick Room priority as well.
Doesn’t Instruct have some sort of bug as well? Can’t seem to find anything specific.

Yeah apparently if the Pokemon has the ability Stalwart (Ignores the effects of opposing Pokémon's Abilities and moves that draw in moves) and Instruct is used on it, it'll target the pokemon on the first slot. So if Oranguru+ Duraladon are on the same team, Dural uses Brick Break, then Oranguru uses instruct on it, it'll attack Oranguru and ignore the target.

I haven't run into that many bugs, but as I've said I haven't been paying attention. The one issue I do have is when I'm in the wild connected to the internet, the lag is unreal and every one just pops in. I like the concept but shit is it executed poorly.
I got online for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was so confused about why all of these weird NPCs were popping in and out all over the place. Can't get in raid battles, either, due to the timeout issue. I wish they'd at least fix the multiplayer features, but we all know they're not going to.

The opening cutscene and credits cutscene have cursors. It kinda makes sense for the opening cutscene because your character is watching a video on a computer. The cursors come from someone moving their mouse around while recording the screen in order to have a video of the cutscenes (there's gotta be a smarter way to import them into the game, but Game Freak wouldn't know how to do that).
Actually the player character watches the introduction cutscene on a phone, so the mouse cursor definitely shouldn't be there.

I thought X/Y was the dankest shit and am baffled at how they ditched everything extra in that game to half-ass new features that suck ass. For that matter, it's a goddamn crime that in Sword/Shield you can't play any sort of repeat to the sheep herding/waterpipe puzzle/ spinning puck/ vibrating maze minigames in the gym challenges. Those are fun and worth randomizing/repeating for watts or something, but no! One time gimmicks, drop them like a rock.

I hate all of Gen 6 and even I realize it did some things better than Gen 8. What the fuck was wrong with the PSS? Festival Plaza and the Y-Comm are so fucking bad.

Thats kinda why I think Gen 8 is worse then Gen 6. X and Y for all its unfinished and half baked state, made alot of strides in making shit more ui friendly with stuff like PSS and marginally with Super Training
then Gen 7 replaced alot of them with inferior mechanics, Festival Plaza especially
Gen 8 has somehow combined the cumbersome replacements a la gen 7 with the Unfinished feeling Gen 6 has.

I binged Crystal over the weekend. First time I've sat down and played a Pokemon game in forever. Beat all 16 gyms in about 18 hours, caught Lugia and Suicune, and then immediately lost interest when I came to the obvious realization that there is no interesting end game content and no real reason outside of autism to fill out the Pokedex.

Also, the amount of HMs you're required to carry around to move around the world efficiently is absurd. I ended up teaching three to the red Gyrados I was lugging around and two to my starter which is fucking dumb. The UI and menus are also painfully slow and obnoxious in hindsight.

Anywho, is Gen 8 worth the investment? Despite that rant, I had fun and am kind of itching for that experience with modern design.

Depends. Do you mind playing the world’s most linear RPG with constant unnecessary dialogue, a horrendous story, and the only even mildly interesting location is the Wild Area? If so, go for it.

Say what you will about gen VI, but it at least has the distinction of being the last "complete" generation in a sense. All the Pokemon were there including their dex entries, all the moves were intact, the online was better than it had been ever before or (sadly) since, it added a brand new battle mechanic in Megas, it still had all the extra battle modes gen V introduced (namely Triple and Rotation Battles) as well as adding another in Sky Battles (as poorly implemented as it was) and ORAS even brought back a couple lost game modes with the return of Contests and Secret Bases.

Then you get to VII and things start to get a little iffy. Contests, Secret Bases, Triple, Rotation and Sky Battles were all axed, the wonderful PSS was replaced by the horrendous Festival Plaza, the dex didn't have entries mons not native to the region, and Megas were pseudo phased out and relegated to post-game only. About the only new major mechanic added was Z-moves.

And finally shit really hit the fan with VIII where (thus far) all the above cuts still remained, Megas and Z-moves were axed, over half the Pokemon roster and quite a sizable chunk of moves were deleted from existence, the online was made even worse to the point where you don't even have a friend's list and have to use an archaic code system on top of the GTS disappearing (a staple that has been there for over a decade mind you) along with the host of other general quality grievances that are too numerous to list.

The Pokemon series has always had this annoying habit of adding and removing ideas and innovations between generations and even individual installments, but it's downright shocking just how much content was slashed within one single system jump, one that was supposed to be a momentous occasion that many fans have waited countless years to see.

Japanese publishers adopted the western practice of rushing out buggy code but rarely feel like they need to fix it post release like western devs do.

More like they don't get called out as often for game bugs, compared to Western devs. It's a similar thing like how people trash American cars for being complete pieces of shit (in which some of the actually are), and yet Japanese cars in their eyes are always 100% reliable and strictly better.

Don’t forget the removal of Inverse Battles, those were a fun gimmick on Pokémon Showdown.

Gen 6 was fucking dogshit. The first generation in 3D and based off France and I can't believe they messed it up badly.

Talking, talking, talking, and that whole thing in the Palace with the furfrou was actually painful. Worst rivals in the entire series, and I think that's fucking incredible considering the one in Let's Go is pathetic. Remaking all the models in 3D is insane, but just like Stadium-PBR they just keep reusing the exact same models to save money, I do enjoy elements like Inverse battles, and the streetpass functions though, I think they did improve it more in ORAS in terms of gameflow.

The jump to Gen 7 felt like I was in a whole new world with way more character development and actual stuff to do more so in USUM due to Wormholes. But tbh the older I get the fondness for gens 2,4,5 become of just how genuine they were with advancements or how the games were handled. Gen 5 especially is one that keeps getting better overtime especially with how the sprite work is.

Gen 7 was just Gen 6 with an appetizer, yeah the characters were written better but the whole TALKING TALKING TALKING aspect was cranked up to 11 which wasn't helped by the FF13 tier area design. I know Pokemon wasn't the skyrim of jrpgs but SuMu took the linearity of the previous games to a condescending degree.

yeah game freak was weirdly able to make complex sprite work that lasts ages or even blown up to a higher resolution. Even on a 3ds xl gen 5 looks amazing, its weird that even with cell shading they can't produce a wind waker effect for their 3d games at all since cell shading always makes games age gracefully, but SWSH already looks Meh at best.

They've been doubling down on the idea of smaller zones with less to do en masse which is why routes feel so off compared to the older games. I think part of it may be due to how 3D control played a part in Gen 6 since you couldn't really make all these intricate pathways without overloading the player. Like the most complex cave in X/Y (Victory Road) is about as in depth as the side cave in Gen 4 where you team up with Riley. That's not a very good sign of game design imo and ORAS did make it better through adapting old areas, but you speed through them just as quickly.

I think it's because the models used for X/Y have this weird plastic looking touch which doesn't look good at all when adapted through the SWSH engine. There's some guy on Youtube Poketips who has been porting the models from older games into SWSH and the contrast between the older models and the more realistic shaded SWSH models really point out how weird the game looks. It feels like they adapated Let's Go's shading and used it for everything, but the look for that game is more chibi while SWSH is going for a more real feel so it's like ehhh.

Sprites are always gonna remain timeless, that's a big reason those Gen 2 and Gen 4 models still look so good. The Gen 5 ones are just nuts because of the dancing, and no matter where current gens go it will never match the effort of making that many model sprites for those pokes, due to both the front and back having to move.

yeah I have seen those ports, weirdly I kinda think the models for pokemon from lets go look much better then the sword and shield realistic ones and the ports kinda made me realize that.

the little jig in 5 was cute, some were too elaborate I will give you that but most were cute as heck

Some is the 3D changing perspectives, but others I bet was because alot of japanese kids complaining about mt. corient back when gen 4 came out. Which I don't get why they don't reintroduce harder dungeons now though since if kids get stuck they could just look up a walkthrough or something alot easier then it was back in the early 2000's

Most people are just exiting out of raids they start because they are resetting dens for the spawn they want. Your best bet is to get several pokemon to level 100 so you can solo most stuff besides some of the harder 5 star raids.

You know what I REALLY wish this game had? The ability to put markers on the map like in BOTW and Link's Awakening remake. It would really help me re-locate specific dens I farm for TRs.

The stupid part about the den resetting is that you don't need to do it with online on, and even if you did if Game Freak put any effort into their online infrastructure at all it wouldn't blue ball you with dead hostless lobbies in the first place.

I really don't know what they are gonna show next really unless they will acknowledge their faults as a saving grace. pokemon sleep would be uninteresting at best and the pokemon prison home is a scam.

its more to me the time frame, 20 minutes, I think USUM had what, a 5 minute or less reveal
sleep is just an idle game and home is probably just previous games' features held hostage in an online service
either they will announce another half baked release, DLC for the first time in the series, or fill up the run time with merch and crap no one cares about.
