The bigger griefing than pokemon Sword and Shield is the missing fourth game of Golden Sun.
I forgot Golden Sun 3 was a thing
wasn't that the one that has psynegy vortexes introduced at the start of the game and the heroes not doing anything to close those to the point a huge one shows up at the end, they really weren't as good at adventuring as the previous generation

I just got passed the last gym and still have not paid one bit of attention to any of the text. No idea what the story is other than something about tapestries. Idk, maybe it was looking at the spoilers before the game came out but with how tuned off for s/m/us/um I feel this is a natural progression away from the series for me. I never really played the game to read dialogue, when I replayed all the games when I was older I remember being surprised there was actually a "plot" and it wasn't just bullshit around like I'd been doing as a kid. I've completely reverted back to not paying a single bit of attention and stumbling around blind.

Although my Intellion and Dubwool are great, I got a Dragapult through surprise trade too, but the other new pokemon I'm not too keen on.

There basically is no story until the ridiculously atrocious climax. Prepare for writing on par with Shadow the Hedgehog/Sonic Lost World/Sonic Forces.

You should really try Platinum, it's a lot better than the gen 4 games that came before it.
It's not HG/SS level in the amount of content but it's very much worth it.

Look up the differences on Youtube for Diamond/Pearl but just only play Platinum. It'll make you appreciate it more like playing Emerald over R/S.

The thing is, one of the bigger factors... Is that it has more fire types in it. Making it a much more optioned opened game.

You know, I've seen a lot of talk about how grinding was basically eliminated for both the main story and for competitive building, but that's not even all that true. For the main story you don't typically need to, but if you do feel behind and want to catch up quickly by using the EXP Candies, well... You still technically have to "grind to avoid the grind" since you can only get those in meaningful quantities from doing raid dens (which even with animations turned off can still take forever). And even if you never do that for the story, you most definitely will if you build competitive teams, where you basically have to use the candies to save any amount of time due to Galar not having any useful grinding spots (almost like they killed Chansey specifically for this reason).

The Battle Tower also still locks all the important shit behind those goddamn battle points, and while they are cheaper than ever (Ability Capsules went from 200 BP in gen VI to just 50) GF of course had to add a catch. Once you get to the highest rank, you're perpetually stuck getting 2 points per match (unlike in the past where each rank increased the rewards up till you got 7 points each round), and there's no Super version of the battles either.

On top of this, you know how vitamins can be used to fully EV train a mon instantly? Well, that sounds great on paper until you realize how expensive it is. I did the math, and to fully EV train a team of 6 you need over 3 million Pokedollars. Yes, there's ways to grind money but wait, you're still grinding to avoid the grind. Notice the pattern here? Of course, you can always just use an exploit with the Poke Jobs thing and max out stats of multiple mons at once in 3 minutes flat thanks to the raid den resets. It's amazing how that one single oversight has completely shattered this game's timed events.

LATE EDIT: Also TRs, which are basically rebranded move tutors. This normally wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that they replaced the majority of the infinite TMs with useless garbage like Eerie Impulse, Scary Face and Screech. The only reason TRs aren't as big of a pain as they could be is, once again, thanks to the raid den exploit, since you can spam it to rack up watts and also reset the vendors to get whatever you want very quickly.

If it's one thing I can say about SWSH it's at least GF didn't fuck themselves over loading a bunch of secret legendaries like they did with x y, SUMO, and USUM. Just old Pokemon leaks.

Probably because none of them will be in SWSH. They already locked specific UBs and Zeraora to USUM, so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they went the extra mile and put all the new mythicals into whatever this year's game is and simply use the old legendaries already in the code for raid den events in the coming months.

I had fun showing all the parts int he game where the mouse shows. Especially in the end credits. No one believed me when I told them and seeing their expressions at it was fucking hilarious.
I feel like Sword and Shield were one of those games where it's so bad that it loops back around to being decent.

Wait there was more than one instance of that happening? And how exactly where did the cursors cone from anyways?

Also I know I am very late on this but how much is Masuda responsible for all the things happening with SwSh? I rarely hear about the actual director.

considering when ohmori was asked if he looked to anyone else for inspiration for game development he just confusingly said "Mr. Masuda?" I think he has a tighter hold on Ohmori then most other producers have on their directors

I get it now. I am not very knowledgable on video game development so I was curious since people love to use one person as a scapegoat for every thing that goes wrong with a game. Wasn’t sure how much of the blame was deserved or not.

From what I recall, he didn't really have much of an influence on the development of the game. But since he was mentioned (and issued the apology), he's getting the same treatment as Todd Howard (even being considered the Japanese equivalent by some).

The opening cutscene and credits cutscene have cursors. It kinda makes sense for the opening cutscene because your character is watching a video on a computer. The cursors come from someone moving their mouse around while recording the screen in order to have a video of the cutscenes (there's gotta be a smarter way to import them into the game, but Game Freak wouldn't know how to do that).
Anyway, why haven't Sword and Shield been patched? Numerous signfiicant bugs have been found and the games are almost two months old. I know they usually only patch game-breaking bugs, but some polish would be nice.

Too busy making 2020's game, if anything will be patched it will be in ULTRA SWSH or whatever because game freak wants to sell updates as full 60 dollar releases

SWSH actually have competitive game breaking bugs, that will in turn hurt the scene of the game if not addressed soon before an Ultra version.

Shofu posted a vid on sucker punch not working due to a port priority and some other factors. Believe left side only has been debunked as false, but considering how big the move is in the meta it will cause a lot of people to reconsider competitive pokes until the issues are solved. Smogon has addressed it as well as people bonking Trick Room priority as well.

I haven't run into that many bugs, but as I've said I haven't been paying attention. The one issue I do have is when I'm in the wild connected to the internet, the lag is unreal and every one just pops in. I like the concept but shit is it executed poorly.

Not to mention the people floating occasionally. They should also try to patch the random crashing and transformed Pokémon being unable to use “special” animations (Ditto/Mew clips through the floor when using Behemoth Blade, disappears when using Eternabeam, etc.).
