It's a rather disheartening trend I am seeing across the entertainment industry where creators, the media, and their shills take shots at the "toxic" fan base. That is not to say there aren't bad actors--much of the Dexit debacle was overblown and Game Freak employees did receive verbal harassment. However, this is not merely a FAN problem but a CUSTOMER one. As the people who are shelling out OUR money for YOUR game we are well within our rights to expect a quality product and call you out when you fuck up. The relationship is ultimately transactional and if I feel that I'm not getting my money's worth, then I can take those dollars/pounds/yen elsewhere.

Wankers like Joe deride fans as entitled tossers who should be grateful that Game Freak is gracing us with another game. No, it is more likely the other way around. I'm seeing more and more creators who act like their shit doesn't stink and GF is--frankly--acting completely clueless. We've seen it with Ghostbusters (2016) and Terminator: Dark Fate where the directors attacked the fan base, and guess who refused to pay to see it in theaters? If GF and Joe want to hide behind the aegis of "Muh horse mint!" then they deserve what's coming to them.
Sad part is I don't think its game freak or any of the devs doing "MUH TAXIC" it is the pokemon fan boys, at this point tho considering we now found that the games battle mechanics can lead to worse glitches then red and blue, I would say the outrage wasn't over or under blown but the dex was just the tip of the ice burg

It's shocking that not only does this game look like complete shit but it's barely functioning on a technical level. My mind is blown. Game Freak is literally releasing an early alpha version of Sword and Shield like it's a completed game.

What the fuck am I looking at there's no way that shits real.
As I said in the addendum, the guy was fucking around with cheats or something fucking giving himself two turns and 999 items so I'm guessing some of it was caused by that.
sorry for jumping the gun abit

I mean the climbing on the ladder freezing the everything else, FPS bottoming out when there is a dynamax pokemon transformation, and random void like battle backgrounds already proves a lot of this. Now that people are playing through the game we'll see if this happens more.

They should just be offloading all their work to Monolithsoft now.

Sword and Shield has done more damage to Pokemon than Sticker Star did to Paper Mario.

If all that game-breaking stuff is legit and not the produce of shitty hacking/modding, I think there actually will be a day 1 patch at this point if only just for those issues (aka the only reasons GF ever patches their games). Don't expect such a patch to fix anything else though, this is still GF we're talking about here.

But if not and the game is released as is and truly has all these problems, ho boy... Even the reviewers won't defend that kind of mess.

EDIT: Got some clarification and the burn/Quick Attack glitches are from a hacked game, but a different softlocked clip was not. So, yeah, still gonna be a shitshow if nothing's done about it.

I think its from the same guy if you are refering to the earlier clip I posted in the previous page, yeah it looks kinda sketch don't know why the clips are out of context from most of the stream, guy doesn't have an archive up either.

So, the game loves to force local wireless on (That Y button in the corner for a lot of screenshots? That's that.) Turns out if you have the console in airplane mode and dock it with a wired internet USB, the game freaks out and stutters every 6 seconds until you disable airplane mode.

Then it forces itself into local, and disables that USB adapter of yours.

So that is the anti piracy measure, pretty cleaver not gonna lie

I think the game looks pretty damn rough and I'm not planning on buying it, but I think you guys are getting a little hyperbolic with how bad this is going to be.

At worst it's another mediocre Pokemon game that is now burdened with negative hype and being overpriced. Hopefully this winds up being meaningful in the long run, but implying that Pokemon is now a dead franchise because of a bunch of mediocre games and one stinker is a bit much.

Just remember that there are like probably 5 good Sonic games tops and his brand is still chugging along like a zombified trucker. Killing a brand takes a lot, especially one as universal as Pokemon.

Not really anti-piracy. It just wants me to announce the pokemons I caught to the other people playing SwSh around me like grandma shares her memes on FB. Shit even has a block button if you're getting spammed.

Can't disable it though, lol.

EDIT: Before you ask, yes, stuff you catch will be broadcast around you, and will display as a small popup during gameplay. They do pile up.

Catching multiple in a row? TELL EVERYONE. And I'm alone, I can't imagine what it looks like with people around.

Jesus Christ is that really the best they could do for the final version? Originally I was just going to skip this gen and move on with my life after the bad first impressions I got from the trailers.

But this makes me actually feel bad for the kids who are just getting into the series with Sword and Shield. This is going to be their first Pokemon game ever. I need a fucking drink now.

Sticker star wasn't really that bad. As someone that played that game start to finish, the game was pretty average. Yeah, it was a major downgrade gameplay wise and the story really wasn't all that, but I feel people were overreacting a bit when it came to that game. Both it and color splash (at least with paper Mario it's more weaker entries weren't clearly lacking in terms of quality and wasn't plagued with a shit ton of negative hype).

Xenoblade 2/torna is my second favorite game on switch, but I wouldn’t use them as an example of technical competence on the switch. The games ran at 360p in handheld half the time.

Quick question from someone who wants to check out Gen 7 and hasn't played anything since gen 4: Should I get Sun or Ultra Sun? The wiki said it's an alternate storyline so I don't know if it's more of a sequel or an upgrade or expansion or what.

Yup, Final Fantasy XIII was so bad that if you snapped the disc in half and accidentally cut yourself, you'd contract AIDS, and that series is somehow still chugging along.

Still though, it's pretty disappointing that after over 20 years, there's finally a mainline Pokemon game on a home console, and it's bad. Oh well, maybe the third game or the sequel or whatever they do this gen will fix some shit, but who knows.

Get Ultra, its not like B2/W2. Its more like they released two Crystal/Emerald versions (with a bit more extra).

Ultra sun fucks up the story, but everything else is better. That’s the trade off, you can decide what’s more valuable.

Also the first island is a slog, after that it gets good.

Basically the only thing you're missing out on is the story (which is butchered from the first game). Otherwise you get access to tutor moves on each island, there's a Mantine surfing minigame to earn points for said tutors, plus a lot of general little side improvements like sidequests and QoL features. Several location-based evolution mons can evolve a lot earlier than in SM for example.
